Well Im just sitting here thinking about what im going to do this year for Easter and can't really come up with anything great without breaking the bank, so I figured hey I'll ask the budget boardies cuz they always have great ideas. So what are some things you are putting in the baskets this year? I'm trying to stay away from a lot of candy and there is not a whole lot at the dollar store my kids will play with now that they are older.

I have a ds (10) and a dd (11) and buy very little candy. My son is getting a phillies short outfit in his basket along with a game for his ps2 and my daughter will get a new outfit also and maybe a new game for her ds lite that she just got as a present for her dance recital (used to get ballerina related things but she has way too much up on her shelves!) It does get harder to please them as they get older, but the more expensive the gifts , the less they get, and the less impressed they are, sad isnt it?
But you are right , I am tired of wasting my money on dollar store junk!
OH and I bought them both googles (not cheapo ones from the dollar store, lol!) since they both use them all summer at the swim club!

We scaled way back on the little stuff for baskets this year. They always get their swimsuit and 1 toy. Then I usually fill it up with little stuff I've bought between Christmas and Easter.

We cut our spending down though so I didn't have as much. I bought bath towel sets (Disney, of course) to fill up the baskets so it wouldn't be noticeable that there was less. Plus, they are all in need of new towels anyway so it was not really an extra expense.

I also bought a couple Disney DVDs-a store was running a special with Peter Pan so I bought Lizzie McGuire for my older DVD. I was going to buy PP anyway so the special made it work out to put a DVD in each basket.

Good ol' chocolate bunny, peeps, jelly beans and egg shaped bubble gum....oh and bunch of that plastic grass that never seems to disappear from the house after Easter....it's still around the next Christmas! Sometimes the little ones get a stuffed beanie baby type toy too.
I refuse to buy real gifts for their baskets, isn't Christmas shopping bad enough?
I guess it was a tradition passed down from my mother to me that Easter means candy in the Easter basket. :woohoo:

I bought disney crocs for everyone's basket, and peeps and may get toothtunes for the 2 youngest. a few jellybeans and maybe a cd for the oldest.

My mom actually used to make all of our Easter basket candy! It was delicious and I miss having that, however, my kids have enough trouble with their weight so candy in large quantities is out for them. I do get them some bubble gum and a miniature chocolate bunny but other than that no more candy. I may get my DD a CD but my a Wii or XBOX game for DS is out of the question, just can't afford it. Oh one thing I did get them and I love are these little beanie baby dogs wearing bunny ears. They are so cute.

So far, some disney lipgloss and nail polish, Happy Feet once it comes out, and candy and some bubbles.

We don't do much for Easter Baskets.

Last May we attended the Scholastic Warehouse sale for the items that didn't sell at the book fairs in schools. I got $8 items for $1 each. I bought TONS for party favours, gifts and such.....

Anyway, we had so many left over that when our church asked us to donate an Easter basket for the inner-city kids we were able to make 6 Easter baskets with really cool stuff in them.

My kids had so much fun and decided they really didn't need much for Easter if there were kids who really couldn't afford them.

I'm in the same situation Melissa - not enough $$ to make a "cool" basket, don't want to do too much candy & the kids are too old for $ store stuff.

I'm going rabbit hunting this week - going to find the little fluffy critter and give him a piece of my mind, what little I can spare, and let him know that under no circumstances is he to deliver razor cell phones to the kids next door while our household can only afford playdough. ;) Despite his big ears I doubt he'll listen, but a mom can try.

My DS(9) told me his dream would be a basket filled with airplane tickets and Disney passes :rotfl: *I* want in on that one!

The only thing I've got so far is a Webkinz for each of them. The little ones are pretty inexpensive.
Oh, and a couple of headbands for DD from the Dollar Spot at Target.

What about hobby supplies or something that they collect? That's what I'm doing for my 15 yo DS. He is into art so he's getting some paints, brushes, etc and he also collects knights, dragons - anything medieval - so I'm looking for something small to add to his collection. Definitely more expensive than the $ store stuff I could get away with when he was younger but doesn't have to cost as much as things like video games, phones, etc. HTH:)

So far I have some earrings from Clarie's (buy 2 get 1 free) since she just got her ears pierced a few months ago, a princess bracelet (Claires clearance), some dress up necklace sets, her 2 fav candies (smarties and tootsie rolls) and a my little pony book. a vsmile game - clearance for $6. Oh and its going in a my little pony easter basket I got for half price.
Her bday party is the weekend before easter (next weekend), so I am not doing much in an easter basket.

DD's Easter basket is all sealed and ready. I put in it:

Candy Grass (found at Target) - can't wait to taste it...
Junior Pictionary
Wipe off adding, subtracting & spelling cards
Tooth Tunes Toothbrush
American Girl pajamas, doll jacket and flower desert pots (store exclusive items)
Crayola spring cookie mix
Dog & Pig footsie socks
Pez and some other little candies (not much at all)
Candyland strawberry bath lotion, body wash, bath salts (from dollar tree)
Bath paints
Hand Soap

On Easter morning, she'll also get a small easter bunny cake sitting on the counter.

Not sure of your kids ages, but when ours started getting bigger..I did beach basket easter baskets with their favorite snacks / treats / beach towel, swim shoes, swim suits.

All stuff I would have to buy them for the season anyway and they loved it.

My kids don't really eat candy or any other type of sweets and I am tired of all the little junky stuff around our house. So what are my kids getting this year - a Wii!!! Not really budget minded but when I thought about how much I would spend on other junky stuff, I figured I might as well bite the bullet and spend another $150 and get something that they will really get my money's worth out of!

I always put a few Disney Dollars in there as well. Our egg hunt has eggs with coins in them rather than any other candy/junky trinkets.

My girls are 15 and 12. I am putting in bubble bath/shower gel from Bath & body. I also got DD15 a Season of Friends. I got DD12 Peter Pan DVD. I also picked up a little bit of Candy at Walgreens.

I bought our season passes for the local pool already. So I am going to print up a card that says "Good for one Season pass" or something like that on it. Then I will stick that in their basket too.

Wow! I am amazed at what you all are doing for Easter.

When I was a kid I was lucky to get a little candy and a little stuffed bunny.

I hear you. My girls will each get a couple eggs, but they only have about 3 M&Ms in each. Then they each will get a small stuffed bunny, and one mini bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs. That's it. We do an easter egg hunt around the house, but those have either quarters or a couple jelly beans in them. We try to make the day special also with having some favorite baked goodies and a special Easter dinner. For our family that is just right.

I love Easter as much as I love Christmas.

Most of my stuff was purchased throughout the year while I see it on sale. Example: When Toys R Us has their buy 2 get 1 free game, I keep one back for V-tines, Easter and Christmas.

I gave a "gift" section downstairs, which I already picked up a few things for this years Christmas stocking already.

Please take this as a joke, it is not intended to offend...

Oh dear, now the pressure is really on! You give gifts for Valentine's Day too????

Please don't tell me St. Patty's Day and Summer Solstice Day require gifts too!!!! or better yet, don't tell my kids!!!! ;)
