What's good to eat at Wine Country Trattoria?

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I am 50% Italian and picky about Italian food. Please tell me why WCT's lasagna is that good. I am asking about the traditional lasagna. TIA

The breadsticks w/ the dip are great! I love, no crave the pizzetta salad....but, I love funky olives. DH would never order it -- but he likes the pasta. DSes are disappointed that they no longer have pizza dogs, but they still like it.

I'm not Italian, but seem to be in the minority in that I did not really like the lasagna. It came smothered in marinara sauce, which is not how I usually think of lasagna. If I were to order it again, I'd probably ask for the sauce on the side (the sauce tasted okay and we used it as a 2nd dip for breadsticks, but it just drowned out the lasagna so I can't really comment on how it tasted.) I only tried the regular one, not the veggie or alfredo.

Edited to add: I am a big fan of all the salads there and usually end up getting one of the salads as I am commonly vegetable deprived when I travel.

I was thinking about getting the Tuscan salad, although I am leaning more towards the lasagna now because of the rave reviews. Can anyone tell me how big the portions are? Is it too much for one person? I don't want something too huge because we are planning on splitting the orange sorbet for dessert.

I think the portions are big, that is why I usually box up my sandwhich for later eating, that works for me. I usually have the side salad and bread for lunch and in line for a ride the sandwhich for dinner

The Tuscan salad was very large. I'm a big eater (usually) and I had some left over.

From pictures the lasgana looks pretty big too.

The orange sorbet was perfect for us to split. It was very good.

This is where my rule comes in: Always bring two sizes of plastic baggies to the park. You never know what you might want to save.

Okay, here's an update now that we've been to WCT. We went on Tuesday and loved it!

After much debate I decided to go with the Lasagna Rustica. It was SO good. I told DH to try a bite and he kept telling me he didn't like lasagna and didn't want to try confused3 news to me since we eat it at home every once in awhile). He finally agreed to try and it and even he agreed it was very good. I think what made it so good was that the noodles were thinner (meaning flatter, not narrower) than regular lasagna noodles so it didn't seem so heavy. And the breadsticks were very good too, as people had mentioned. Not as good as Pat and Oscars, IMO, but much better than the yucky ones they serve at olive garden. They would have been better warmed up but they were still good. DH got the Caprese sandwhich. He liked it but was disappointed that it only had artichokes on one half. Oh and we both liked the orange sorbet but our nephew (he's 10) tried it and said it was "too strong".

Our waitress wasn't very good though. She left on a break without telling us (the server helping us while she was gone was very good) and she acted annoyed at my SIL who was just trying to ask her for the things we had requested (extra spoon, etc) then she acted kind of weird when we asked about our AP discount. Overall a very good meal though.

Sorry, I didn't even think to take pictures. I was too busy trying to get DS fed and feed myself at the same time.

Your experience was similar to our two visits.

- Standard Lasagna (rustica?)- was good.
- Chicken Bruchetta Salad - Daughter liked alot.
- Chicken Panini - was very good.
- Tiramisu - very good (but i haven't met many deserts i don't like)
- Kid's Pasta - Padewan Alec liked ALOT. & a good value

- Ambiance of sitting outside on a pretty day is great.
- Service both times was friendly but both times the waiters disappeared for long periods of time.

Overall quality of food, ambiance & value (especially for park food)....very good.

Service...average at best.

I also highly recommend.

We had lunch at WCT last Mother's Day. It is the one time I remembered to take pictures BUT I forget which salad was ordered. And when we went the breadsticks were a little warm, guess we got lucky.

It is one of our favorite places to eat on a sunny day. We didn't have PS, but really only had to wait 30 minutes.

Kikiq, those pictures just made me very hungry! That bread with the salad looks incredible! Was it garlic bread? And all the sauce on the lasagna! Wow! I am almost tempted to try it. I would love lasagna if not for the fact that most lasagna has ricotta cheese....which I hate. Every now and then you will find one that doesn't have ricotta in it and only has mozzarella, but if I recall, when I looked at the WCT menu, I saw the word 'ricotta' in the lasagna description.

Lavender Peach - were your breadsticks actually cold, or were they just....'not warm'? I thought ours may have seemed colder in December than they might ordinarily have another time of year because it was 40 degrees outside! It seems a no-brainer to me that they should heat them up first! I bet that tomato spread would be really good on a nice warm breadstick. Still, the flavor of the breadsticks is good.

Sherry E- The bread is always served room temp. They bring the bread from the back and put them in huge covered baskets that the servers portion the bread out of for each table. The warmer it is outside the warmer your bread.

I have often thought it would be nice to try them warm, but I really love the spread with them I just dont care any more heheheh!

Wow, that lasagna looks delicious! I have a question that might seem odd, but did the Italian sausage have a lot of fennel in it? I just think that too much fennel overpowers the dish. It's such a strong flavor...I know the question might seem weird, but I'm pretty picky about my food.

Sherry, the breadsticks were room temp but I would say slightly on the cooler side. It was a little chilly when we went though so maybe that contributed like fairycat said. Also, I don't really remember ricotta cheese. If it was in the description it must be there but i don't think it was much. This lasagna was different than usual because it had a lot of thin layers (so thin layers of ricotta?). It wasn't a very cheesy lasagna at all. I love melted cheese on things but this lasagna was great without it. It wasn't as heavy as lasagna usually is.

SilentFeline, are you talking about fennel in the sausage in the lasagna? I know what you mean about too much fennel and I don't remember tasting it in the lasagna. However, the sauce had a couple of big chunks of sausage (really big!) that i didn't eat because I'm not a huge sausage fan. Not sure if there was other smaller pieces mixed in with the sauce or not. If there was, I didn't taste fennel in it.

On one of the girls only mini meets.. we at at the wine country trattoria... it's one of my favorite resturants at the park.

two people {including me} ordered the chicken alfredo lasagna... it should be called spinach alfredo lasagna ..we kept looking for the chicken and found two slivers of chicken.. neither of us at much of it.

the orange sorbet is delicious.. i wish i had some now.

we've eatten at wine country since then and love the sandwiches and the beautiful salads!

they also have a nice sparkling italian wine..called Magicale.. it's yummy!

I think you can make PS any time, even the same day, but they might not have the time you want available. My MIL called for PS about a week before we went (which was just last tuesday - during spring break) and we got the time we wanted so it wasn't a problem for us, even with our party of 10. Not sure how long the walk-up people waited to be seated but we were seated in about 10 minutes and there wasn't a huge crowd of people trying to get tables. We saw a few people waiting but not much. This was also at 5pm so it was a little early.
