We will be at WDW the fie we of August and the crowd levels that week are 8 out of 10. Is there an even going on that week, or is it just due to families squeezing in a last vacation?

An 8/10 is typical for early August. A lot of schools aren't back in session yet and families take advantage of that for an end of summer vacation.

Thanks. It was odd because the last week of July has days at like a 5/10, and then august has 8/10, seemed like a huge jump.

That doesn't sound right with last week of July being a 5. Early August is still, pretty crowded. With this year's NE school schedule and not starting until Sept. 8 or 9, I would imagine you'll see larger than normal crowded all the way through the end of August, too.

You must be looking at Touring Plans. EasyWDW has both weeks at 7/10.

Is the very end of August still an 8? We are going Aug 30-Sept 5.

September 2015 should be up soon, but here's September 2014 for an idea:

Yes, going by touring plans. I didn't really understand easy wdw ' s reasoning for recommendations of parks.

I agree. I am there during August every year for the last ten years either the first or second (full) week. It is quite crowded.

Don't forget the number of schools now on year round school.

It just seemed like his formula is "never go to parks with EMH, and magic kingdom is never the most recommended because it's popular" Also, any park with a special event is to be avoided.

These just seem like very basic, rigid rules.

Magic Kingdom isn't never the most recommended - in fact, this month it's the most recommended 5 times, and recommended 7. And if you want lower crowds, it does make sense to avoid parks with special events as well as EMH parks, although MK is always recommended when MNSSHP and MVMCP are taking place, due to the shorter hours, which turn most people off. And he does give advice for successful touring on non-recommended days. And what's wrong with basic rules? Would you prefer complicated? ;)

We've been several times in August, and it's always been just as busy as our June or July trips. I think with more schools starting around labor day or switching to year round, it frees up August to be just as "summer" as the other two months when it comes to crowds.
