"Return of the GIANT threads ...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1715238

We realize that several have already gone into withdrawal.

We have begun to split up these threads and have already returned several to the boards for your reading pleasure. Since none of these threads have had any posts in a few weeks, none are on the first page on any of their Boards. Below is a list of the threads and their location. Further information is found within the linked thread. Links have only been provided to the original thread, so some of the posts may be more difficult to find, but they have all been returned to their proper chronological location on the board. Links will be added to this thread as more of these oldies-but-goodies find their way back home.

We do thank you for your continued patience."

I just noticed this thread....

I am so bummed if the other thread is gone. I didn't save anything :( I just relied on Lindsay and her wonderful upkeep of the thread. :( *cry cry cry*

I have some of the recipes too, but it looks like we will have the old thread back soon.

This is why Greg is planning to answer the door in full-dress uniform once Caili hits puberty.

Gretchen, it sounds like you are doing much better. Yes, I did use the fresh store made dough. I've made the dough from scratch before, but it really isn't an improvement on the premade kind, so I get three hours of my life back by buying store-bought. I wonder if there is a way I could send you some?? I have let the kids top their own pizzas, but it depends on what kind of time I have. Today, I spent four hours helping Caili make her handmade Valentines for her class, so I wasn't in the mood for kitchen "helpers" when it came to dinner.

Great news on the Wii. Beck has one, and I am not a fan of videogames (see below) but the Wii is really fun. I would buy one myself, although I am not sure how it would work on my very small, really cheap, out-of-business bargain store TV. Our house is in major need of technological improvement.

I think Greg's idea is absolutely brilliant! And I am feeling much better although I think I overdid today as my fever seems to be returning.

And on the old, cheap, TV - I'll let you know how it works. The TV in our den is about 10 years old. We don't really splurge on things like this for ourselves. We normally only splurge on vacations for the kids. But I admit that I am looking forward to trying the games out myself. The ones my sister had looked really fun.

Sheryl Her eyes and that smile, make you just melt! I love her "wine' glass;)

I noticed that too. Sheryl, that was really sweet of you to give her a wine glass. I'm sure she is going to remember the meals with her nana with great fondness.

I leave for a few hours and I have pages to catch up on! You all are chatty tonight :thumbsup2

Laura- I think that you could hire Greg out :thumbsup2 Now about those costumes.........where were you when I paid a coworker of Donny's $100 to sew a blue Aurora dress for Kady? I bought all of the fabric and notions. The dress was two sizes too big when she showed up for a fitting. She just zipped it on the sides and up the front, added straps that were two different sizes and two different lengths. And worst of all, my son had asked her not to smoke when she was sewing for Kady. It smelled so bad! I had to Febreeze it, toss it in the dryer with a dryer sheet and leave it outside all night long :headache:. That was when I pledged to learn to sew again.

Gretchen- I would say stay strong but I would give in like an ice cream cone in July

How horrible! The seamstress I have used to hem Hailey's pants charges an arm and a leg, but at least she doesn't smoke. Everytime I pay the alteration fees, I swear I need to learn to sew, but there aren't enough hours in the day.

Kathy- I just wanted to add that the thought of letting my Mom's house go was awful. We all put it off, dilly dallied and then finally gave in. My poor brother got to handle that and it was hard for him and for Gail. They both disliked the guy who wanted to buy it an took it very personally.

Well anyway, I told my brother that I would respect any decision he made, but that he really needed to step back (this is the man who kept my father's care in tech back yard for ten years. My Mom finally called a junk man and had it towed out when he was at work).

The sale went through I December and I truly feel better. I thought I would just never drive by again and that would be that, but it's funny. My sister told me it was good to see people there so I drove by and she was right. It was like somehow that house was happy again. I know it sounds silly but it looked so lonely before and now it is lived in. I hope that you find that same peace. I did not believe it would happen and was so scared but now I am glad that we did this. It was the right thing.

I'm glad it all worked out for the best. My Mom had a hard time letting her parents' house go. Even today, she won't drive down the street where they used to live. Unlike in your case, the family that bought it didn't take good care of it and watching the house and yard go down was like losing them again.

I think, and I know this sounds a little silly, that houses have spirits too, especially ones that are older and have seen a lot of life in them. Our house is older, and the minute the kids and I walked in, I felt like the house was happy. Walking into this house was sort of like the first time I met Greg, I felt like we would spend the rest of our lives together.

I hope everything works out happily with your parents' house, Kathy.

I don't think that is silly at all. I think that is kind of sweet actually.

Sandy, I am happy to report the family was very pleased with the chicken. DH said he couldn't have done any better himself on the grill. Wow. If you knew him, you would know that was high praise indeed. Our youngest was so-so on it, but she is very picky. I thought they were delicious. I did discover that my oven must broil hotter than yours because mine were done in less time. However, that seems to be a recurring theme with my oven so I was watching for that. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'm sure I'll be making them again.

Jeez, I need cliff notes to catch up here...:scared1:

I'm going to start fresh tomorrow...I hope everyone is well!

My dad's birthday was this week so we are taking him out today, probably to The Chop House.

WFD at your house?

I've got Jerk Chicken marinating and will be grilled later today. I ordered some PepperJack Risotto Rice Cakes from Omaha Steaks and I think we'll try them tonight and I'm making Becky's Spicy Cole Slaw. Can't wait!!!

Maybe I should get into the costume business afterall. Greg has always said I should. $100 just for the sewing and you bought all the fabric?? That is one expensive costume! For that, I would add 100s of sparkly rhinestones to a princess costume.

If you are already making costumes I would beet that there are a lot of people who would be grateful that you would make one for their child. I really wanted a special dress for Kady to wear for Princess tea at the GF and was willing to pay for it. My sister would have helped me but she thought that her sewing was not up to the pattern but when she saw the dress she cried.

I'm glad that you are happy in your home. I felt the same way the day I walked into our home. It was small and needed a lot of work but I loved it from the start. Buddy wanted to sell and I just could not.

Well it is about time that you spend some on yourselves. :thumbsup2 The kids will enjoy it as well but sometimes you have to just do something nice for the two of you.

I am embarrassed to admit that I have not even opened the sewing machine since my resolution to sew. I really need to call Gail to help me. I don't have the excuse that all of you have, I just haven't done it.

Jeez, I need cliff notes to catch up here...:scared1:

:lmao::lmao::lmao:Lauren, I cannot keep up either. I read all of the pages and have lots to say (surprise that?) but when I start I miss so much. Thank goodness no one worries the small stuff.

My dad's birthday was this week so we are taking him out today, probably to The Chop House.

WFD at your house?

Wish your Dad a big Happy Birthday from me, won't you?

Kathy- have you heard from Wendie? I don't want to intrude if she needs privacy but I am worried about her.

Dinner tonight is easy. Kady got a 100% on her last spelling test so we are going to Red Robin to celebrate. Gail is going to fix dinner for my Aunt so I can go too. Kady had taken the test with her reading teacher but her primary teacher did not know so she asked her to retake it. Kady is OCD, I mean she entrenched in her own schedules so she was totally flustered an came home with a 40%. Marisa was shocked because she knew all of the words and Kady was furious that she needed to make a change in her "pattern". Well the teacher found the original and all is well, except for her Pa who is all out of joint over it. Marisa has tried to explain that Kady needs to adjust with the world not the world turning over for Kady but so far no go :lmao:. He never was like this with the others but for some reason Kady parts the Red Sea.

Have a great Day ALL!

Nancy - I haven't heard from Wendie. I PM'd her a few days ago and no reply. I think it became real to her when her mother came in the mail and she's going through a phase we both know all too well. I may call her tomorrow if I don't hear anything.:sad1:

My heart breaks for her. I know how hard this has been on her but I absolutely cannot imagine having to accept your Mom in the mail and all alone. When we had to take possession of my sister IL we all went in but the look on my niece and nephews faces was heart wrenching. I don't know how else this could have been done but oh my goodness, this was way to hard. :sad1: Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Morning All!

I think we may just order pizza in...

we are off to pick up the veneer stone for the fireplace so that is what we are working on today...and maybe I will finish taking the tree down...yes, you heard that right!

Have a good day!

WFD- I am heading out to the grocery store shortly. I am in the mood for fish. I am thinking :woohoo: poached salmon with bernaise sauce! Hopefully they have some nice looking salmon or that plan may change.

I am so excited DH just made some changes to our upcoming WDW trip. I can't believe we will be there in just 11 days!!! We decided to do a split stay at AKL (savannah view for DS) and Poly (lagoon view for us). We are such foodies I am so excited about our ADRs too. Thanks for letting me share my excitement.

Now you've got to tell us where you're dining at!!!!

We are going to my ILs this afternoon, so I have no idea what culinary adventure we will face. In preparation, I made bacon, eggs and French toast (eggless, so Liam could have them) for breakfast this morning.

Well heck, that's an easy one. Because she's with you all the time. It makes him closer to her. I had to live with my parents before Kenny and I got married. There was no way to afford therapy for Hailey and provide a house, so my family decided there was really no decision. Consequently, they feel very close to her, because she lived with them for so long and the others just come in and out on visits. They love all the grandchildren, but there is just a special bond for them with Hailey. I think it is sweet and completely disproves your theories about how you and Buddy won't be as special to her since she lives with you.

Thank you for making me feel better about mine. We have this year's tree boxed up ready to go to the dump and it has been sitting in that box waiting on my dear, sweet, procrastinating husband to take it. I was going to make my stand this weekend, but he is now sick. I mean sick enough that he went to the doctor this morning of his own free will - without any nagging, begging, cajoling, pleading, or fussing by me. In other words, really sick. So I guess he'll get another reprieve and the tree will be in the box in the corner for another week.

That sounds like a great trip! Please share your reservation plans. I love hearing about everyone else's trips.

Tonight's dinner will be Kathy's saucy steak. Kathy, what kind of sirloin do you use? The cheaper top sirloin cut or the sirloin filet?

I'm looking forward to dinner tonight as I think I might be able to actually taste it. I just hope everyone here will be well enough to eat it. Last night Kenny ate the chicken, but was too sick to eat any dessert!! :scared1: And he didn't even ask to open the Wii box. If he had skipped dinner too, I'd have taken him straight to the emergency room.

Wow, did you and Becky marry brothers? Or did each of your husbands suffer through a childhood filled with burnt meals only to fall at your feet in gratitude after sampling your cooking? ;)

Gretchen - I use whatever is on sale....it really doesn't matter because it cooks for so long it gets tender.:goodvibes

Ok now I can relax I just finished copy/pasting our recipes from the new thread :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I haven't thought of dinner yet maybe something with Alexis potatoes

Now you've got to tell us where you're dining at!!!!

I know! You can't tease us this way! We love trip details, especially the food. Then we need wedding details, party details, renovation details, basically....we like to be part of the fun. Please share.

I hope that you are right. It is wonderful having her here and I would miss her so much if she was not. I know that her Pa adores her as well, ever since he held her she has been special and has been able to wrap him around her little fingers. I ordered custom maps and they came the other day. She locked herself in my room with him while they studied them. She told me that he said "Well I guess that this means we are going to Disney." :lmao::lmao: I have been trying to get a code becasue I was shocked at the price but I think that I am going to have to figure something out.

Your poor hubby! IF he went to the Dr on his own he must be very sick. The news said that the flu is late but in full force and the vaccine is not working on two strains. So take care that you don't get sick again.

Mmm, we had a great evening last night.

Started with wine at the bar, then escargot and chicken dip, then a spinach/walnut/blue cheese/cranberry salad, then a teriyaki sirloin (I passed on my fave blue cheese filet to save us $15). Then we went to a dueling piano bar and had more drinks/shots (buttery nipple, anyone?) until they had to get back to their babysitter around midnight.

We rarely go out but after a fun night, I always wonder why.

The place wasn't that expensive either, which was good!

ETA: No idea on dinner.

Thanks. I have a cheaper cut defrosting now.

It really must be going around. The dr had run out of flu swabs this morning so he gave Kenny Tamaflu as a preventative. The dr said he got his flu vaccine 3 days ago and that another dr was sick with the flu even though he had the vaccine. I hope we aren't about to do a run with the flu here.

I haven't had one of those in YEARS. I'm glad you had a good time. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Wow, I guess I can't go to sleep if I'm going to stay caught up on all the chat! 2 pages in one evening!

Thanks for all the kudos on allowing Alexis to "cook"! With that face y'all can see why I'm such pushover!

Laura, I have the luxury of sending her home to do the Valentines & other stuff that Nana can't or doesn't want to handle! Believe me if she was here 24/7 I would not be allowing total kitchen destruction on a daily basis! ;)

I really think that if you enjoy sewing especially costumes, you should consider it as a business! I tried several times having dresses or costumes made for DD & the cost was shocking! Her communion dress (this is 19 years ago now) cost me $100 just for the sewing. It was supposed to be a tea length dress & when we went for the fitting the woman had already cut the fabric where the dress came several inches above her knees! And it still cost me the 100 bucks! And with the cost of those Princess costumes I've bought for Alexis, I'm sure you could have a booming business!

When Caili gets to that stage, having Greg answer the door in uniform is a great idea! That should be enough to keep those boy's in line. My DH used to have this long scary speech he'd give every boy that dated DD! He felt the need to give them a really threatening speech since he was a handicapped guy in a scooter! Both DD & I would cringe and leave the room, it was so horrendous! ( Hope y'all (you, Becky & families) enjoy your weekend culinary adventures!) :goodvibes
