What's everyone baking?

Made "puppy chow" last night and mixed in the holiday M&Ms for a festive party treat tonight. Big mistake - once you start you cannot stop eating that stuff!!

On a side note, Vernie - I sometimes "lurk" on the Disney Dining Reviews forum, but really not anywhere else but here, and I don't think I've ever posted there just here. Anyway - been very much enjoying your ongoing dining reviews, and you're doing an awesome job!

Thanks, Heidi! I appreciate it. I usually am the opposite, lurk on here and post in the dining reviews section. :)

I just made snickerdoodles today and I'm thinking about making Russian Teacakes this year. Plus I'm hoping to make spritz cookies, cut out sugar cookies and gingerbread people.

That's about it though - I'm supposed to be cutting down on sweets so if I don't make it, I won't eat it. LOL

What a neat thread.

My baking is miniscule this year as my mother in law is in Hospice and doing very poorly. All time spent with her.

Only made:
Pecan Balls
Spritz (almond Christmas Trees)
Chocolate Sprinkles
Rolo Pretzel Turtles

Several batches of Pumpkin Squares (cakey, not like pie)

So many of the cookies listed by others sound wonderful. I love reading what others favorites are.

So sorry to hear about your MIL. I hope she (and all of you) find peace.

I'm not doing a lot of baking this Christmas but I have made cranberry liqueur, coffee liqueur and almond liqueur.
I also tried my hand at making lip balm. After Christmas I'll be making crackers, several kinds to go with some wine for an after holiday party.

I baked for our mailman and next door neighbor only this year. So I made:

Red velvet thumbprint cookies with cheesecake filling
Almond shortbread cookies with dried cranberries and orange zest
Peppermint brownies with cream cheese icing

I want to be your neighbor.

Okay, that sounded creepy, but you know what I meant.

Lol! :rotfl:Our neighbor takes care of our kitty cat when we go on vacation, and we'll be gone the whole week after Christmas, so I wanted to give her some baked goods as a thank you. She loved them!

Attempted to make toffee (fb video of toffee with chocolate chips and crushed peanuts) but the toffee broke (icky oily mess) while I was cooking the butter and sugar mixture on the stove. I'm dreadful in the kitchen. So I drained off the oil and went with it. It was OK but really sweet and I'm not sure if that's because the mixture broke or if I didn't use the right stuff - I did use salted butter though. Anyway, maybe I'm just rubbish in the kitchen or the recipe just makes a very sweet toffee.

Then I began to make candy cane sugar cookies and my hand mixer decided to die. So no cookies for us. And I likely avoided sending anyone to the hospital with food poisoning.

I laughed out loud at this. What a riot!!

Good Lord, are you baking for the army? That's a TON of baked goods!

I'd gain 20 lbs, I can't resist them if they stay in the house for more than a day :rotfl:

Brownies with vanilla drizzle
Red velvet cake with cream cheese glaze
Coconut apricot bars
Amaretto cheesecake with fresh raspberries and blueberries
Rice pudding
Apple spice cake
Cranberry crisp
Chocolate layered pudding pie

I know. It's ridiculous really. We're a family if five. I work in a school so all last week I brought cookies in and I'll do the same this week for the different dept. lunches. We'll visit with family over the break so I'll bring a bunch along.
I actually have to restock the chocolate chips. Gave too many of those away and now the kids won't have any here for Santa!

From the DGF...
New this year, we have been making Southern Comfort Bundt Cake...it's amazing.

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup Southern Comfort liqueur
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • Add all ingredients to list

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray one 9 inch bundt pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Combine the cake mix, instant vanilla pudding, eggs, milk, oil, Southern Comfort and chopped walnuts. Beat for 2 minutes. Then pour batter into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes then invert onto a cake dish and enjoy
