Whats a good summer dessert ?

Eton Mess! Strawberries, cream and crushed meringue. :lovestruc

Okay I'm curious and I have to ask this question. Do you call various dishes "mess" or do you just have that name for this dish? I'm asking because I have a friend who calls various dishes "_____ mess." Her favorite meal is "green bean mess." I am not sure where she is from originally, and seeing your post made we wonder if it is a regional usage or slang thing. :)

Mandain Orange and Pineapple Trifle

1 large continer of FF or light cool Whip
1 lg plastic jar of Dole Mandarin Oranges in 100% juice
1 lg plastic jar of Dole pineapple chunks in 100% juice
1 angel food cake
1 box of instant cheescake flavor Jello
3 single serving containers of Yoplait light thick and creamy orange dreamcicle
1 trifle bowl/punch bowl

cut the angel food cake into 3 pieces, take one piece cut it into cubes and line the bottom of the trifle bowl

pour oranges & pineapple into a seperate lg mixing bowl with most of their juice with clean hands or a masher you want to crush up the fruit

In a medium size bowl empty 3 yogarts, the box of Jello and one cup of cool whip~ mix untill well blended

Now spoon 1/3 of the fruit & juice mixture on top of the cubed angel food cake, top with 1/3 of the jello mixture, and 1/3 of the remaining coolwhip

repeat cubed cake, fruit, jello mix, coolwhip for two more layers

You do not have to use all of the juice, just enough to moisten the cake cubes :goodvibes

I am a Pampered Chef rep and I make this for all of my summer parties~ if you use the light/ FF ingredients it is fairly healthy and extremly tasty.

There are never any leftovers :lmao:

Great... now I am hungry again:rotfl:

Ooooh, thanks for sharing SiAmCrazy! That sounds amazing. I am writing that down now and will try it soon! Is that the family size jello mix?

I would be interested in recipes that do not use cool whip as that stuff makes me gag:scared1:I think is vile, for a summer treat, I like fresh fruit.

I know I should have been more technical :lmao:

It is a 3.5 oz box (4 1/2 servings),

The fruit is Dole in the 24.5 oz plastic jars, (you can use pre-crushed in the cans but I think it tastes better this way)

and the yoplait is light, thick and creamy "Orange Creme" (it has a small picture of an orange dreamcicle on it so naturally that is what I call it :lmao: )

Also if you want to make it look "fancy" leave out 3 of the mandarin oranges and place them on the top layer of whip cream when done.

Sorry to gross you out :goodvibes

I to love fresh fruit Do you always eat yours plain or sometimes with dip?

Do you like "fluff" (marshmellow spread)? if not stop reading here tomthebarncat and I will post something else for you tommorow :)

1 jar Fluff
8 oz cream cheese
4-5 drops of pure vanilla to taste
blended makes a mighty tasty fruit dip!

I have some more fruit dip recipies that do not have "fluff" in them but I have to dig them out. This is just one I know by heart as it is the one I am asked to make the most. Now i must go rescue the strawberrys from my refrigerater
;)

I made Ghiradelli brownies last night and served them warm. Everyone was quiet while we ate them-mmmmmmmm!

Cant think of a summer that has gone by where we did not have good ol' fashion Banana Pudding. Made from scratch (vanilla pudding, evaporated milk, cool whip, milk) layered with bananas and vanilla wafers screams summer to me

Pistachio pudding cake!

2 packages lady fingers
1-2 sugar free pistachio instant pudding prepared like pie filling

2-3 crushed heath bars

put a thin layer of cool whip on the bottom of a cake pan.

I agree - not a Cool whip fan at all. I just make up whipped cream and use instead.

Puddingwiches, the original receipe is cholcolate pudding mixed with peanut butter, between 2 halves of a graham cracker to make a sandwich.

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups cold milk
1 (3.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1/4 cup peanut butter
15 whole graham crackers
Directions
1.In a mixing bowl, combine the milk, pudding mix and peanut butter. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes. Break or cut graham crackers in half. Spread pudding mixture over half of the crackers; top with the remaining crackers. Wrap and freeze until firm. May be frozen for up to 1 month.

We have found that we like to make regular pudding and freeze like a sandwich.

The desserts I suggested use a lot of fresh fruit and no cool whip. I don't usually use cool whip since I have a liquid nitrogen cream whipper that takes about 10 seconds to make whipped cream from scratch.

The kids love homemade chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches (dipped all around in mini chocolate chips of course!) I don't hate them myself;)

I love mangos and mango smoothies in the summer.:lovestruc

I love taking fresh berries and adding a touch of sugar and then putting them on top of vanilla ice cream, so good.

Apple crisp, with vanilla ice cream or creme fraiche on top. Raspberries with creme fraiche. Raspberry pie. Strawberry-rhubarb pie. Summer pudding. Frozen vanilla yoghurt with sliced up bananas or strawberries. Frozen banana (this one is a Weight Watcher's idea).
