You know you've been married a long time when you need to buy a new refrigerator for the third time:eek: Actually I think we left one perfectly good one behind on a move to Florida once.

Bought an Amana almost 20 years ago, but want something different. Whirlpool? Frigidaire? Other? Thanks in advance.

We've had a Sub-Zero for almost 12 years and haven't had one problem with it!! I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I'm not sure about brand, but I would love one of those fridges with the freezer on the bottom, and the double doors on top. I was at Home Depot the other day eyeing one of those, and a new dryer!

SnoWhite, I believe Kenmore makes one like that.
I had a Whirlpool in my last house and had to leave it with the house. Bought one for this house and have to leave it behind too. I'm seriously going to look at another Whirlpool for the next house.
I've always had Whirlpool appliances and I've never had any trouble with them.

Most of them are made by the same company, anyway.

I know Whirlpool makes more than just the Whirpool brand.

I also like the ones with the freezer on the bottom.

I think Whirlpool also makes Sear's Kenmore lines, Fridgaire (sp?), and Hotpoint (?) plus a couple of others.

I appreciate the input. If anyone else has a thought, please post.
I have heard some horror stories about Kenmore. I think years ago it may have been reliable, but I hear it's not that way now:confused: I hadn't thought much about the freezer. We don't freeze an awful lot of food. I was more interested in the crushed ice and water in the door:D

Hi Micca! We have a Kenmore side by side with water/icemaker in the doors , we've had it for 4 years and not a bit of trouble DH loves the regular ice cubes and myself I love the crushed ice, it has the lock to keep little hands from pushing anything and making a mess. The only other thing is it's just a bit noisy at night while the ice is being made, took me awhile to get use to that, since this was our first I'm not sure if any of the others are that noisy or not. But I'd definately buy another Kenmore if this one ever gives out.

We had a Whirlpool and loved it. It lasted 22 years. Now we have a Hotpoint which is a good brand too. (but I do prefer Whirlpool.) Whirlpool does make some of the Kenmore models but the salesman at Sears told use that Fridigaire makes some too.

You want something different, but our first Amana lasted about 25 years, this one so far about 7. We stayed with what we knew worked, LOL.

we have a Sear's Kenmore for 2 years now no problems...

...our last Sear's Kenmore lasted around 16 years before it died.

Sears has a big sale going on this weekend...

I love my Kenmore! My parents just replaced their 18yr old one with a new one and never had a single issue with it.

please don't let me get started on sears kenmore.
i bought a kenmore (which is a general electric) on may 30.
it took 12 days for delivery. plugged in and 7 hours later still not working.
sears had to come back and remore it. lost all my food, 5 in the family. lost insulin also.
replaced and same problem.
right now june 25 have a loaner, amana, which over cools and the milk gets icy. sears is to redeliver a third time the kenmore side by side tomorrow and we hope it works!!!!!!!!!!!
paid $1200 on sale for this and wish we had shopped around more before we bought.
good to hear the ones that have a kenmore never had problems, wish i was so lucky.

I have a Frigidaire..................anyone want it??!!! :earseek: I bought the original one in Sept, 2002. My 'frost free' freezer compartment kept icing up on the tower. Called service people. FIVE calls later, problem is still not fixed. I inquire about a replacement. Yes, I am told.....Frigidaire makes the arrangement with Lowes. Lowes calls and wants me to pay delivery!! I call Frigidaire back and ask why am I responsible for delivery charges. They tell me that after the initial year, they don't pay delivery! I tell them that my 3rd service call (3 strikes, you're out!) was well within my first year. I am told that I should of asked for a replacement then!! Luckily Lowes knew of this whole mess and decided to give me free delivery. :D Replacement unit (exactly model as the last) was delivered in Nov. 2003. Guess what? It does the EXACT thing as the first one!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called Frigidaire immediately and they initially told me that since the same thing was happening (and they didn't know how to fix it) they would replace it for me, in fact, I could have an upgrade. 3 weeks later, I was still on the phone with them! Turns out, another department said they could fix my unit and were sending parts and arranged with the service dept. to come out. Well, I just had my third service call this week...........and it is still icing up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crazy2: Looks like another phone call is in order!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headache:

Love my Kenmore bottom freezer. This one was made by Amana,

Check Consumers Report. They rate all brands based on a number of factors including reliability. Usually your local library has them if you don't get it or know anyone who does. I have not heard bad things about Kenmore, in fact I think they are rated high by CR. I believe they are made by Whirlpool, not GE as stated above. We just bought a 25 cubic foot Amana stainless freezer on the bottom. No problems so far but it is only a couple of months. We had a Whirlpool for 10 years that still in great condition, but DW has been dying for the bottom freezer for years. DW likes the freezer being on the bottom and having the refrigerator section at eye level. I like the large size (it is one of the largest you can get for a standard refrig space). I was sick of trying to make room for things in our smaller refrigerator. If you go with the freezer on the bottom, make sure the freezer is a drawer, otherwise you have to bend to get into the back of it. We put the Whirlpool in the garage and now use it for soda and water bottles, plus overflow from the kitchen refrigerator. Jay

I appreciate your comments. BTW, the issue with my Amana is that although it's 20 years old, it started deteriorating about 10 years ago(should have replaced it back then but there were other priorities). The plastic shelving in the fridge starting cracking and breaking, and it starting dripping water inside the fridge. It has kept things cold all this time, but it has been a mess.

Thanks again, and, uh..."stay cool";)
