Free dining would be a slightly better deal if you had a standard room. The 40% off would be better for another other category at the WL.

WL is the least expensive deluxe, so probably the free dining. Is it free deluxe dining or free regular dining (called dining plus, now)...the 40% off room rate is better for the most expensive deluxe hotels and/or club level...otherwise dining will usually win!

If I did the math right 40% off is better for you.

Free Dining + upgrading to the Deluxe plan saves you $468

Dining for 2 adults for nights is $503.88+ 2 kids (I am assuming the ages to be between 3-9) would be $143.88...for the MYW plus dining plan....I don't think she said she had deluxe dining... the total savings for the FD would be $647.76, assuming what I have said above...if a child is between ages of 10-17 the savings would be more...

The room rate savings for 6 nights would be $576.00...

Does this sound right??? I think my math is correct...how old are your kiddos?

Comparing 2 packages that are exactly the same (delux dining, 2 adults, 2 kids under 10, same tickets etc) and a standard room at Wilderness lodge -

Free dining (you still pay to upgrade to delux)
Adult DDP $42/night
Childs DDP $12/night
Savings/night - 108
Total savings off 6 nights is $648

40% room discount
Rack Rate Standard room - 240 +tax - 270
Savings/night - 108/night
Total savings off 6 nights = 648


For you these two deals turn out the same. Of course any more expensive rooms at WL will increase the savings of the 40% discount over free dining.

We are staying at AKL and did the free dining which saved us about $600, but yesterday my TA changed it to the 40% off for 2 adults and it saved us an extra $388.00! We still kept the dining plan. The 40% off was the best deal for us!

Melissa's situation is different from yours. You save more with free dining because you have kids. Kids essentially stay free in your room (no difference in room rate for the kids) so 40% for her, with no kids, and you, with kids, is the same. But Free Dining applies to your kids too so its more a savings because it would cost you more than Melissa to pay for the dining plan (the price of the kids' DDP). Also, Melissa will be on her honeymoon according to her siggie so we don't know what type of room she has booked, likely more than a standard.

Yes...we are booking a Savanna View room...so you are probably making the right decision b/c with the free dining plan since you have two extra people in your room! It's all so confusing! lol!

I think you are all set. We took the 40% off AKL also instead of the free dining. But we don't have a standard room. We have a Pool view with bunkbed which for our 10 days stay is 400.00 more than a standard view room. I only wanted a pool view but that is all they had left with the 40% discount. I think you will have trouble getting a standard room at Wl with the 40% discount. Some room categories are never available with the 40% discount. AKL never had a pool view for our dates.
