Think back to when you were a beginning scrapbooker...if you were taking a scrapping basics class what would you want out of it? I am researching teaching at a local craft store and I am trying to get ideas.

Thanks! :hippie:

Hmm - a fact sheet to take home would be great, with key vocab things - journaling, photo mats, etc.

Maybe info on cutters (I know I used scissors for a lot of my first pages - eek!)

Gluing - types of glue, what they're good for, what not to use...

Journaling - ideas on what to write

Saving things, organizing them (explain kitting), and writing things down to remember what was important.

Maybe do some basic layouts, how to incorporate photos and memorabilia on a page together without it looking too crowded.

And explain that you don't need to fill every inch of space! That was one of my big mistakes for my first pages.

I think the biggest thing I needed to learn early on was that you don't need to have 20 pictures from one event to tell the story. Once I learned how to sort my photos my pages got much better.

Advise them not to buy paper if you know you have nothing pix-wise it will go with. I can't tell you how much unused paper I have laying around that I'll probably never use but thought was cute paper and someday I might use. . . .I could probably build a really nice scrap HOUSE with all the money I would've saved had I not bought all the pretty papers . . . .

So true! It is amazing how quickly some papers can go out of fashion.

Talk about the different album options - and alternatives - post bound, strap hinge, 3 ring, mini books, divided page protectors, actually page protectors in general.

I especially love the thrifty scrapper idea. I could gear that class toward all skill levels. :thumbsup2

To me how to coodinate your album, choose photos and make a cohesive end product. As a beginner I tried this, that and the other, spending all the way. A class would have helped by focusing on one thing at a time. Choose the album, choose the papers, go over cutters, glue, lettering, embellishments, and most of all. Which photos to include. Like describe the birthday in 5 photos.
