What would you have done if you saw this happen?

Yesterday I took the kids to a birthday party for a friend that DS has known for 5 years. After the kids did the gym play they sat down to eat. The dad started cutting the ice cream cake & after the first piece said something about wow what alot of icing. I looked over & saw him lick his hands 4 or 5 times then proceed to cut the next piece & put it on the plate using his hands. :crazy2: I just couldn't eat a thing after that. Everything had been prepared by them...fruit salad, cheese biscuits, cupcakes. I was totally grossed out & had to just try not to think about it since both of the kids were eating. Would this have bothered anyone else? :confused3

I would have been grossed out too. Yuck! I don't blame you for not eating anything they made. If licking fingers is the norm when serving cake I can't imagine what must have happened when things were being prepared.

Eewww!

I would have handed him a napkin (preferably an anti-bacterial wipe) without hesistation and said, "Here. Looks like you need this". :thumbsup2

I would have been bothered, but then I try to remember what my Biology 101 teacher said "There are no toilet seat diseases" meaning I remember that and put it in perspective, and if my child gets a cold, it will take care of 1 of the Approx 300 cold viruses that exist. Did you know that when you have a cold, you will not get that particular strain again? That is why the older you get, the less colds you catch! Really he performed a public service!

Yes, absolutely. I think I have hygiene issues anyway. But I know you could not have controlled whatever it was they were serving you that they made ahead of time when you were not there yet.

BUT I def would have said something like..."hey, Jim, aaa, your hands(??),aaa please".. and every so nicely picked up a cake server and handed it to him or suggested "where do you keep your cake server I will grab it for you".....kinda like not to be rude, like a joke BUT also he might have CAUGHT ON....and then properly used a knife/server to continue with the cake cutting and distributing....AND NOT HIS HANDS...

Yes, bottomline, this would have bothered me as well. ::yes::

My guess is his plan worked!!! He was trying to keep as much for himself as he could! :rotfl2:

Yep, gross. The only person I don't mind licking their fingers and then touching my food is me. (I'm sure there's times when my kitten has sneaked a few licks when I wasn't looking though)

Yes, but aren't the strains constantly mutating?

Ummmm...Icing! Me likes icing! :teeth: (preferably homemade) No, I wouldn't eat any piece that he had cut. Could you wait and cut your own after he was done, or was he cutting and dishing out the whole cake?

:crazy2: :crazy2:

That is precisely the reason why our schools don't allow home baked/prepared items to be sent in. :crazy2: :crazy2:

Love this theory.

Yes it would have bothered me...but it also would have been a good thing for me... seeing that happen would have helped me stick to the diet I've been on & off with...so skipping all the food would have been perfect!

Yep I would have been grossed out. I used to work for a place that would do a monthly birthday cake for the employees and one of the admin ***'t would cut the cake and she would do the same thing. I would never eat the cake, I finally said something to someone in our department and they mentioned it to the admin. She was quite insulted. I guess she felt that she didn't have any germs.

One of the guys my team goes to lunch with during the week always reaches into the noodle bowl at the Chinese restaurant with his fingers and grabs a few. YUCK! I always make sure I use my spoon to get a few out first for my soup. I even offered him a clean spoon last week - he just says "Oh, no, that's allright, I 'll just use my fingers, no problem". Ummmm...wasn't worried about your inconvienance, just my health and sanity!

People touching my food drives me insane!

Gross. Very, very gross. I don't know what I would have done. Not eaten anything else, that's for sure. But my kids?????

I'm constantly surprised at how many people just don't know *how* to be clean. :confused3

that is why i dont eat things that are made by other people or people i dont know.

i really hate eating out, we really dont eat out a lot.
