What would you do?

We think there will probably be FD September 2016. Would you book a moderate hotel with FD and passes or rent DVC points at Boardwalk, pay for dining and passes. The difference in renting points and paying OOP for passes and dining price would be 280.00 more.

I would do the DVC and pay for food out of pocket. But I am not a fan of the dining plan bc it doesn't fit the way I eat. I don't drink soda, rarely eat dessert - so not such a good fit for my eating habits.

Interesting, I think the better value is to do DVC. We can get the paid dining plan with DVC but with regular dining it seemed there was not enough and we filled in and with deluxe dining it is way too much, with too many table service. Thank you for your input!.

I agree with jacknsally, not just because we don't like the dining plan, but also because we LOVE the location of the Epcot area resorts.

I agree with the pp. The location of BWVs is great - much nicer than a moderate resort. I would only stay at the moderate if the savings was really huge.

I'm so happy I posted this as I was going back and forth trying to figure out what would be best and you folks made my decision much easier, thank you so much!

We had the same dilema our last trip. We chose DVC vs Coronado Springs with free dining. The dining plan is too restrictive for us. We got groceries and ate breakfast and lunch (came back for an afternoon swim daily) at the resort which saved money. Then we had dinner at whatever park we were visiting. BWV is one of our favorites. The proximity to EPCOT and DHS can't be beat, neither can the fun of the boardwalk itself. You won't regret it!

Just be aware that cancellation with renting points is different than cancelling with Disney. Just make sure you know and are comfortable with the policy of whom you rent with.

Yes, I was aware of that, but there is another site that has cancel for any reason insurance which is very affordable. In my case 125.00, so the only amount I would lose would be 125.00. Requires deposit but final doesn't have to be paid until 45 days prior to check in. Everyone else is very restrictive. High, high marks from BBB so feel very comfortable with choosing them.

I think you'll be a little happier going the DVC route and paying OOP for your food & tickets. Even though you say it'll be $280 more to stay at BWV by renting points, it's a Deluxe resort vs a Mod, and with skipping the dining plan you may actually find extra savings by eating the way you want to eat vs making sure you're maximizing the dining plan (even if you choose to purchase the refillable mugs like we plan to do).

Only $280 more? That sounds like a great deal! The Epcot area is great!

We haven't used the dining plan in years since we started staying at the Epcot deluxe resorts. Don't miss the dining plan. If you alot the money that you wouls spend on the dining plan, you have a bit more flexibility out of pocket to spend it. Meaning, you might want an appetizer instead of an entree, or an appetizer instead of dessert. Too many guidelines for the DDP. You can't go wrong at the Epcot deluxe resorts and this is coming from someone who did moderates (POFQ and Riverside) for over 10 trips when our kids were young. No going back now, not even for free dining. Enjoy.

Just got back an hour ago from BWV!!! I would do DVC over FD. We rented points and 4 days at BWV was $500. I saw more families getting so many snacks to take home because of all the credits. In Epcot one family was getting counter service in USA and the kids said "Daddy this is too much food again." At Boardwalk sweet shop people were leaving with bags of snacks. It was obviously overwhelming amounts of food. DVC was really fun and the resets are awesome.

For me renting points for 5 nights in BWV studio is 768.00 [153.10 per night] plus OOP food for 2 is 600.00, grand total would be 1368.00. POR for 5 nights would be 1120.00 and free dining, difference in total price between the 2 is actually 248.00 not 280.00.
