So we are headed out at the start of Oct for our vacation. Basically we are going to stay off-site for 5-6 days then head back home -- total time at the park would be a 4 day park hopper (sunday, tues, wed, thur), MHP on the monday - check out and leave on the friday.... sooooo DH wants to be home a day earlier as it's a holiday here in Canada (sweet overtime if he works it basically) --- what do I do??
Should we just head back a day early? Do a 3 day park hopper + the MHP and then that's that.... ughhhhh so frustrated... I really wanted to stay for longer :confused3

It's not a big deal as far as the booking, I can cut the hotel by a day with no charge. And I haven't bought the park hoppers yet (waiting until the last minute).

What would you do?? I mean, I get that the overtime is great, but still.... He does feel that 3 days and a bit (MHP) is plenty time :guilty:

What would you do?

:goodvibes

The price difference between 3 and 4 is pretty small if I recall so I think I might go ahead and go to Disney the morning of MHP so you get a 9-midnight day instead of 3 to midnight? I have stuck to my guns on one trip when my wife wanted to leave a day early and that ended up being a wasted day because she was in a bad state of mind and worried about not going back when she wanted. I wouldn't want to fight that feeling of "we should have left a day earlier" from my spouse again.

Two initial questions: do you have any kids with you, and have you been to Disneyland before?

We went for 1 1/2 day(s) last April - the kids loved it! They will be with us again this year.

Yeah, kinda thinking I don't want to look at "that face" all day LOL :rotfl:

Was thinking we would hang out at the pool and PRAY for a lie in that morning of the MHP.... :confused3

Would it be possible to leave a day earlier so you can get back in time without cutting your trip short? Otherwise I would do as previously suggested and do all day for monday and then stay for the party.

My suggestion: Let DH go home early to make more money while you and the kids enjoy the full trip as it had been originally planned. Could end up being a really special time just to share with the 4 of you.

It might be difficult on your own with a 9-month old, but ages 11 and 5 are much easier to handle.

We are driving, so can't get rid of him :rotfl:

I'm not sure how much "sweet overtime" means for you. Here in the states many people make time and a half or double time for working on a holiday. If that's all it means for him, it's not worth it to shorten a vacation that's already planned. If he'd be making five times normal or something then it's worth considering.

We have the same schedule - except you get there a 3 weeks before we do ;) While we do not want to leave a day early there is talk of going to Universal for 1 day - I am against it but think I'll be outnumbered.

I think a 3 day PH and the Halloween party would be enough time but I wanted that extra day in case we are super tired from driving (not as far as you have to go but still it is 13hrs) and do not do much in the parks that first day. A day at each park, half a day at MK and the extra day to hop is the plan so far.

If his mind is set on leaving a day early then you have to work your :wizard: and try to get him to change his mind or give in. Do the kids know how long you are supposed to go for?

Too bad. Ok, then, here's my last suggestion: Convince hubby to "play it by ear", then have a such a great time that he recognizes why family vacations are so important and chooses to stay. If he's not having a good time and wants to go, then its probably to everyones advantage to leave. Don't worry, I'll be grumpy enough about that for all of you. Whatever happens, at least you'll get more than the 1.5 days of last time.

Be sure to check out the Jedi Training thread. :)

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I think it would be fine to cut a day off so that your DH can get in his overtime, if it's really important to him. Of course, it's not the preference to chop off a day (somehow I keep extending my trips each year!:rotfl2:), but you'd still be at DLR on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Monday being the MHP day), right? And then Thursday would be the new departure day?

Unless you absolutely have your heart set on having one extra day, I think you'd have plenty of time to see and do mostly everything. If this were the holiday/Christmas season, I might tell you something different because there's a lot more to see and experience during that time of year. Halloween Time, while fun, is more limited in its offerings. One extra day would be nice, but it wouldn't make a huge difference in your overall itinerary, I don't think. If this were a matter of planning a 10-day trip and cutting it down to 4 days, that would obviously be a big difference.

Yeah, it's triple time I believe... really good pay :headache:
I do understand his thinking.... but looooooooove my Disneyland :confused3

In the end, an extra day at Disneyland will leave you with more fond family memories than an extra day of overtime.

Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee that's what I think!! But then I get a blank look from DH :rotfl: Love it.

I think because we are taking a total of 11/12 days for this entire trip (with drive time) he is thinking that is enough family bonding time :lmao:
