OK, here's the situation...
I was great friends with the guy who did my hair for about 6 years.
Something happened like a year and a half ago, and we sort of had a falling out. It was nothing dramatic. In fact I can't really pinpoint why it happened. We just sort of stopped hanging out, and we haven't spoken in months. It seems to have been mutual. He hasn't called me either in all of this time.
Now it's been over a year since I've been to him, and I'm in desperate need of a haircut/style!!
So my dilemma...Is there a way to just call him (professionally) and request an appointment without any of the friendship issues causing drama? I've already called the salon where he works, thinking I could just book it with them, but they said he books his own appointments so I'm going to have to speak with him personally.

I have no clue why this makes me so nervous!!
What would you do? Would you risk calling him and hashing up possible hard feelings?? Or would you just find a new stylist? I have curly hair, and have had some really horrible haircuts in my time, and this guy is the only person I've ever fully trusted with my hair...

Was there any actual fighting, or just drifting away? If it's just drifting, I'd call him up for a haircut, definitely. :thumbsup2

ETA: I have curly hair, too - and it's so hard trying to find a good person to cut it. If he does it right, I wouldn't try and mess with any bad haircuts trying to find someone new!

Have you not had your hair cut in a year and a half? Just curious what you've done meanwhile.

Breakups and issues with hairdressers are complicated, aren't they? I just found out my hairdresser (who I adore, and I also have curly hair issues) extended her maternity leave, and I've decided I can't wait, and am have big stuff done to my hair with someone else this weekend. :scared1: And I feel like I'm cheating on her.

I think in your case it actually works in your favor that he books his own appts...gives you an opportunity to see how it feels to both of you before actually walking in there. Maybe just plain out ask "Are you OK with things?" :confused3

I have two former hairdressers I dread seeing...I never officially "broke up" with them ...just stopped going. One of them, my DH still goes to, and has been for about 15 to 20 years. The other one just got in a rut with my hair, and I just wasn't happy. My current one is AWESOME, and I think I'd go to counseling with her if we had some sort of falling out before I'd break up with her! ;) :rotfl:

So I am assuming you were friends first- then he started doing your hair? Or did he do your hair and then you became friends?

I would just give him a call and ask for a haircut- tell him what you wrote here- that he's the only one you trust with your hair. Sometimes people just drift apart. There is no reason he can't still be your hairdresser.

Thanks for the replies...:goodvibes
I think I'm just going to call him.
As for the questions...
We were friends before he did my hair, and we never had a fight. It was just a "drift".
And MaryAnn-I've had trims since then, but I can't bring myself to let anyone else do anything more serious than that...

People have always talked about what a delicate relationship it is with your hairdresser. I always thought it was silly because I was such good friends with mine. But now it really does feel like an awkward reunion after a break-up...LOL

Thanks again. :)

did you ever have sex with him? come on...you all wanted to ask.

Well, you did use the term "falling out" in your OP. So that makes me :confused3 But you also said nothing dramatic...so, I'd call him. As a hairdresser, I think thise could easily be worked out--if not forgotten about and move forward.

And Mare, you are one dedicated client. :)

I would call him. I have a hard time finding a really good hairdresser.

my thoughts are with the last post, like a mechanic, hair dressers are hard to find... call and make the appointment if you have not already done so...

You say you just drifted apart.......eh, call him. Life is too short and hair too precious to worry about the minor things. :goodvibes
