What would you do if your resort room was left open all day?

I'd be highly annoyed and report it to the Resort manager and Housekeeping manager. They need to go over procedures with that housekeeper again and remind them to check all their doors. I wouldn't expect anything from the resort other than an apology and assurance that they've taken steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm not sure what else to do and I'm not going to let it impact my trip in a negative manner

During my stay, I would email the general manager mailbox, such as WDW.GM.AnimalKingdomLodge@Disney.com, WDW.GM.PopCentury@disney.com, etc., and report it that way. In my experience, those mailboxes are monitored for in-stay issues and they respond right away.

this! I would absolutely do this. It is not ok the room was left open all day. They need to address it with housekeeping staff immediately (presumably it was housekeeping). I would be paranoid a critter was in my room or something like that. I am sorry that happened and am glad nothing was taken.

My main concern wouldn't even be with housekeeping, that can easily be an innocent human mistake, my real question would be why was no one alerted to a door left open? - I've had a door not latch and security has called to check it, I've also had a door not latch when we left and had security come to close it and and a voice mail left letting us know that maintenance would look at it and to please keep a close eye on it for the rest of our stay.

The hotels system should be flagging unusual door activity as well as CMs should be visually inspecting the halls as they walk by etc..

This happened to us on our last two visits: last summer, our room at Riviera was left open, and this last weekend the door to our cottage at BWI was left open. I mentioned it both times, but nothing ever came of it. It's a little disturbing to hear that it seems to be a pattern.

Question how do you know it was left open all day? Not meaning that as in "if it was only left open for a short time it's okay" just that how do you know it was left open for a very prolonged period of time.

I know most people tend to mind their business but I would think/hope that if it was left open all day someone would have walked past it or noticed (well unless you're in a room that is hidden away from others) and alerted the front desk.

I too agree with others on two different points: 1) I'd be upset even if something wasn't missing because I would think "well something could have at any moment" 2) I wouldn't let it really get in the way of my vacation but I would probably be muttering to myself how nuts it was to have that happen and it probably would make me less likely to opt for housekeeping even knowing the security checks can still occur.

I also agree with wanting a bit better of a response, most often nonchalance tends to irk me more than the actual issue. At least pretend to care a bit lol.

On both occasions, we returned to our hotel room at 10/11pm, so it had to have been open for awhile.
That doesn't mean it was left open for the whole day. To know that you would have to know when housekeeping (or security if it was left open during a security check) entered and left the room. If you didn't return the whole day you wouldn't know when it was actually left open. Maybe not a point worth debating but you'd think if it was open for a prolonged time someone would have been alerted.

Maybe. Honestly, it didn't really bother me at the time. Hearing other people share similar experiences is a little disconcerting though.

THIS! My first thought wasn't someone stealing or anything. My first that was "Oh LORD how many bugs, spiders, lizards, crickets, squirrels, raccoons, armadillos, etc., etc., etc. are going to find me after I get into bed tonight?"

me too but I didn’t want to freak out the OP by highlighting that! I would be terrified a snake came in. I prob wouldn’t have been able to sleep. I am still haunted by the snake in the room at one of the hotels that I saw a photo of years ago.

Disney charging too much money to just 'let it go' . Just because their latest policies seem to be 'just keep charging more and provide less' doesn't lower my expectations. Too many stories of missing medications in room, other things missing when guests return back from the day. They need to be called out for the lack of service. Maybe it was from a mandatory room check, housekeeping, another guest whose band may have worked on that door, etc. Sounds like the front desk wrote it off the second you walked away. In agreement with contacting guest services.

Could have been just before you returned?

To me, it doesn’t matter if it was left open for 5 minutes or all day. A CM opened the door (or worse, a guest with a mis-keyed MB (this has happened to me at hotel, very scary when someone unlocks your door at 1am)) and left it opened. The end. That is a security breach of the room, done by a CM. How long it was left open does not diminish the basic fact that the room was left open by a CM.

That said, the “someone should have noticed this open room and contacted the front desk” comment makes me laugh a little, sadly. There is such minimal housekeeping and regular staffing at the resorts, we saw almost no CM’s in the halls during our Christmas week stay. And to top that off, I don’t think any guest would even stop long enough to take notice of another person’s room door being ajar. They might think the guest left it that way intentionally if someone had to run out of the room for a minute, or that housekeeping was inside or security was inside. I just don’t think they would stand there and attempt to figure out what was going on and then report anything.

This falls 1000% on the resort management to resolve to the guest’s satisfaction, whatever that is. I would not be ok with just “we are sorry that happened,” if it were me.

People were just wondering because it was the "it was left open all day" was it or was it not? IDK hard for someone to know. Not that it means if it was left open for a short time NBD. As far as what could happen (critters were brought up) the length of time might make some things more likely.

I'm a private person, I don't care what others do, but if saw a hotel room open like wide open I'd think that might be odd and might stop off at the front desk to tell someone OR step back in my room and call (we know at Disney calls can be routed to call centers so maybe not there). Now here's where the "all day open" comes back into play. If the room is not hidden far away if it was left open all day long chances are multiple people passed it, odds are someone (even just one) alerted to that, well you would hope so.

I'm not even sure someone said they would stand there much less contemplate the reasons why the door was open, it's just the idea that a hotel room, a door we know has hinges and most doors are hard to keep open themselves, is out of place to see it wide open. And if you don't see housekeeping around on the floor it's even more out of place. If I saw housekeepers cart with a wide open door of course that makes sense they may be in there.

Just what you did, report it. if you are not happy with the way the report was handled, either go back to the front desk (do not call on the phone) and ask for a manager, or send an email to Guest Communications.

I would have took a pic of the door and then went straight to the lobby and (always) ask to speak with the manager. I sure would not wait til the end of my trip or when I got home, that makes no sense. I agree people make mistakes and when I train co-workers I tell them that, BUT I also tell them that I will talk to them when they do make a mistake because how else do they learn not to make the same mistake over and over again. Just letting mistakes go does not help the person. Just because nothing was missing is not the point, the point is that anyone passing by had access to your room with no one there:( Plus, what if you thought nothing was taken but when you got home you noticed there was something missing, well it's too late now.
