What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I thought of this after reading some of the posts on the age thread and realized that alot of the people there were either younger or older than I had thought just from reading their posts.

So that made me think:
If someone met you briefly for the first time, what would they then be surprised to learn about you later on?

For example, do you have a ton of tattoos, dress in black leather and ride a Harley, but then in your spare time raise bunnies? Or whatever. You get the picture.

Oh, and this is just for fun so no one needs to lecture on how we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.

People at work would probably be surprised that in school I was smart enough to be in Beta Club.


Most people think that people that work in a school lunchroom are stupid,can't read,etc. but I do not fit that stereotype at all and I am sure the teachers would be surprised.

If someone has never met me in person but have only spoken with me on the phone and then I see them in person (the case with my pre-school job as well as my hotel job) and then they see me and they say Hi, is Malaysia available and I say, Hello, that's me! They are in shock, they often say, Oh, I thought you were White, you sound white (I didn't know people can tell the difference between a white, black, asian person on the phone).

I don't even think our realtor knows we are black. I don't think my race is a big deal and I really don't pay attention to the color of a persons skin, but so many people do.


ETA: People are also shocked to learn that I don't know how to dance and that I have no rhythm.

hmm i would..like i have a lowish scratchy voice (or so i think..i hate it!)

but im an opera singer..and i sing soprano

i also dont look like a dancer...but ive been hired over 5 times to be one...so i cant be that bad!

there are also alot of people who i thought were alot younger...maybe that or i just act old!

If they met me for the first time, they would be surprised to learn that I've spent the last year losing 72 pounds and have 18 to go. That will help with the whole age thread too....it will help me live longer!

Anyway, to look at me, I'm very unassuming. I'm pretty overweight, average looks, and dress very conservatively. I'm also pretty quiet.

But once you get to know me, you'll realize that I'm extremely smart, cynical, sarcastic, and have a weird sense of humor. I have a wild streak a mile long, love heavy metal music, and I'm a very liberal atheist. I curse like a sailor in certain situations, but also know how to speak academically in others.

So many people make incorrect assumptions about me based on my looks (and have told me about them later). Some of them are: religious, maternal (only to my own kids), conservative, average intelligence, or shy. Mostly, people assume I'm maternal -- I do like kids, but I don't want to mother the world.

That's all I can think of right now.

My coworkers would be surprised to hear that I have a temper because I stay so calm with the kiddos and other co workers. When I tell my family that, they practically spit their drinks out laughing.

Didn't take me long to think of one thing. Most people are surprised that I love theme parks (I know, you all wouldn't be surprised about that with this being a WDW board) and that I will try any roller coaster. I might not do it twice, but I will never say no the first time. Actually, unless it's a really rough coaster I can't think of one that I won't repeat. I just don't like the ones that bump my head around too much.

Maybe that I grew up not speaking any English until school age. Now where I'm living I don't know anyone who speaks a second language. I have lost so much of my german language-I miss my grandma whom I used to HAVE to speak german to because she couldn't understand English. It was good practice for me. I always asked her if my dad was naughty when he was a kid, so I could tease him later!! Hee hee!!

i look VERY young so people are always shocked to find out i am 30. lol

i have the whole sweet-and-innocent-girl-next-door look so when people see my tattoo they are always a little shocked.
i also have a really high IQ but choose to work fast food! i love my job. they are always shocked to find out what a dork i am.

I guess that I have 2 kids, for some reason people are always surprised to find that out about me. They always say I don't look like a mom.

People are surprised that I'm a professional boxing judge. I have judged over 60 world title bouts in such places as Las Vegas, LA, Atlantic City, Tokyo, Beijing, Rome, etc. I have judged well over 150 bouts on TV (HBO, Showtime, Pay-per-view, ESPN, ABC, CBS, NBC).

I seem to surprise people all the time hehe

-I have blonde hair and say dumb stuff all the time but I am actually quite intelligent (almost got a double major in math and hearing and speech sciences but dropped the math when I realized I would never use it)

-I look much younger than I am... I am 21 but have been told I look like I'm 18

-I am a volunteer with the fire department and have been volunteering for 6 years

-contrary to popular belief I weigh more than 100lbs (actually 35-40lbs more! I dont know where it is )

-I am a self proclaimed computer geek. I love computers and video games. I have beat two Zelda games on gamecube (and the pokemon game but we arent discussing that).

-Most wouldn't imagine I love Disney but you guys can!
