What would one boycott from France?

What about the fact that without the French the US wouldn't have won the war of independence?

perhaps you need to study your history alittle better?
guess in britain they dont talk too much about that loss?

it wasnt until February 6, 1778 that the france signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce. before that france only provided 14 ships of war supplies.

french troops didnt actually engage in fighting in america until july of 1780. they sent 6000 troops.

the french troops along with over 12000 american troops pretty much at that time spanked cornwallis's troops all the way back up to yorktown, where he surrendered in Oct of 1781.

So because of that, France should permanently tow the US line on every foreign policy issue for evermore? What about the fact that without the French the US wouldn't have won the war of independence?

If you want to consider that along with our coming to France's aid in WWI and WWII, I'd say we've already repaid that debt and then some.

Personally, I think the boycotting of French products is a personal decision that each individual should make for themselves.

Of course, I have a perspective that is skewed a bit. I work for a company with a French-sounding name -- Flemish, actually, as the owners of my company are originally from Belgium. The company is based in the United States and employs thousands of people, the owners have lived here for decades and are Republicans. Yet I wonder how many people have avoided my company's products because it sounds like it's from France. In that case, the "boycott" is hurting me, hurting my co-workers, and hurting an employer who may agree with the boycotters on key political issues.

If someone wants to boycott French products, that's their prerogative. As for myself, I think it's just a difference of opinion between the two countries on one issue, and as time goes it won't seem like too big of a deal. If the rumors of France aiding Hussein under the table were proven to be true, however, then I'd support a boycott.

Obi-Wan Pinobi,
I hope Americans aren't boycotting your products, but I've seen on TV where Americans have boycotted French restaurants that were owned and operated by Americans. These companies were really suffering during the time the show was broadcast. I don't know what their situation is like today.

I too think it's a personal decision (I'm not participating in the boycott) I hope everyone who is, does not do anything to boycott any American made products.

My husband works for a company that is owned by the French. I can see how them pulling up and leaving (though I doubt they would, they're making too much $$$) this country could really hurt our town.

Now this is coming from a die-hard republican...France is a sovereign nation. It can decide what is best for it, and if not helping us out in Iraq is what is best for them, so be it. The United States helped them not because they were France but because Germany, et al. were our enemies. I don't think that what we did to help them should be forever held over their heads.

Boycotts rarely work. And while I agree with Bill O'Reilly on some things, others he is WAY off base.

It's attitudes such as this that make the people of other nations HATE the United States. I know, who cares, but I guess maybe we should care.

Just for the record, I do believe that any money Disney would make from the meanie French would go back into the US companies hands.

No, it won't. The operation in France is run as a subsidiary of the WDC. The WDC has waived the collection of all royalties and profits from the Paris attraction for the next several years because of the economic situation the Euro Disney branch is in.

No joke. I work in a grocery store and a guy wanted to return a carton of French Vanilla ice-cream because he is boycotting the French.

I think it's rather childish actually to boycott the French. Yeah, it would be great if the supported us because we supported them. However, they don't believe in the war we are fighting. Doesn't it just sound a little bit like four year olds having a little spat? Does this mean that half of America is going to start boycotting American things because there seem to be quite a few Americans who are not supporting this war and president. They will not hesitate to let their feelings be known.

I'll buy from whoever makes the best product at the cheapest price.

in an international economy, by boycotting most "french" goods, you are probably just hurting americans. for example, most french cosmetics have plants/factories in the us that employ us citizens. i think boycotting french products is sort of stupid, but then what do i know, i'm going to france in 2 months. disneyland paris here i come!

I don't go out of my way to search out and find out which products are French and then not buy them, but if I have a choice, I won't buy something that is French made. I'm not trying to make any great statement other than when I can, I don't want my money going to support policies with which I disagree.

It can decide what is best for it, and if not helping us out in Iraq is what is best for them, so be it.

ITA, and had the French stopped there, I would have had zero problem with them. But it wasn't a matter of them saying "No thanks" and walking away. They tried to stop us from doing what our leaders thought was in the best interest of this country. That, to me, was going over the line and sticking their noses in where they didn't belong.

AFR, that is true, I tend to glaze over that because I don't believe in the UN dictating what we can and cannot do. Too bad there aren't UN products we can boycott. ;)

So you would agree that w is sticking his nose in the EU's business when he states that Turkey should be allowed to join that union, right?

Just saying it? No. That would be the equivalent of the French saying "We don't want to help in Iraq". As I've said, that would have been fine.

If the President were to try to put some type of sanctions on the EU or if he were to actively try to "punish" the EU for not allowing Turkey to join, then yes, we would be sticking our noses in where they don't belong, and I would oppose that.

One of my favorite things...Grey Goose Vodka. I'm not quite ready to give up on it yet!

For those who grew up in the 80's....

"Fraunch dressing, Fraunch fries, Fraunch bread, and to drink...Peru"

...how bout just NOT boycotting France? Is it their fault that they don't believe in getting involved in a war?
