What would be the best way to learn French

Hi

Dh and I are wanting to learn French. What we want to be able to do is have a moderate experience in speaking and listening and at least basic writing skills. I thought of a GCSE, but thought that was too broad. My local adult learning centre offers language courses and offer them on certain levels.

Which way do you think would be better? Other than living in France

GCSE french will require a lot of course work, speaking, listening and writing exams so will require more work when at home than simply going to the classes once or twice a week, which if you want to learn as a hobby may take the fun out of it, and you will also need some basic french for GCSEs, in schools most pupils would have already done 3 years of french before GCSE years.

I think an adult class would be the best way to start, I think it will be more of an enjoyable way to begin, you can always progress on to a more challenge level or GCSE if you find you enjoy it.

I agree, you want to find a conversational class before tackling at GCSE level, with all the study you have to do for your job it may be too much like pressure instead of fun

Great ideas. Bruce needs it for a job he wants to apply for end of next year. He wont have time to study a GCSE and his AAT. He kinds of needs to speak fluent and be able to listen. Write basic standard. I want to learn for fun.
