What will you drink at midnight?

I know for sure that it has 2 types of cognac and oat milk. I'll ask our bartender tonight when I go what is in it.

I'm also a bourbon drinker and the stories behind these spirits are absolutely fascinating.
My husband listens to all kinds of bourbon podcasts.

I’m really impressed w/ those who can remember from one time to the next what a particular bourbon tastes like.

I may remember liking (or disliking) a bourbon, but I don’t remember all the different nuances & layers… like “This one had interesting layers of dark fruits followed by an almost toasted marshmallow finish“ or “Ooh, yes… I liked the vanilla & tobacco notes of this one.”

And I know there are have been a few I’ve tried (like one of the Old Forester years one) that I didn’t like at all - but I can’t remember from one time to the next.

We watch a couple of different bourbon YouTubers, & I’m impressed w/ the ones who keep notes on each bourbon in a journal.

I am going out to dinner with a friend. I will probably have either an Old Fashioned or a glass of wine with dinner. I will be home before midnight and probably won’t have anything else. But, it could happen. 😁. If it does, it will be an Old Fashioned. 🥃

Because you’re only supposed to drink a few sips with a tasting not half a bottle.🤣

Well, yes, probably… but that’s not nearly as fun!

Me on my 1st sip - “Wow, I can really feel that Kentucky hug. And, yes, maybe I’m getting some oaky caramel-y notes.”

Me on my “I’ve lost count“ sip - “Wow. I can’t even feel the burn any more.”

EDITED TO ADD - But, I promise - If I EVER get a chance to taste some Pappy, I’ll give it due justice & proper respect.

Just put two bottles of Laherte Frères Brut Champagne in the fridge. That’ll be for drinking throughout the night with food.
Also have a half of a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal leftover to toast in the New Year.
Finally, a bottle of Disznoko Tokay 5p in case anyone wants instead of dessert.

There are only 4 of us who should be here the whole night. Two or three will arrive for midnight toasting only and sowwy, no Cristal for them…oops!

A long time friend and fellow bourbon drinker has tasted it and thought it was highly overrated and overpriced for what you get. There are far better bourbons in the Buffalo Trace tree that are more reasonably priced

That’s what I’ve heard too… but I still want a chance to try it.

I have a friend who was lucky enough to be at a tasting w/ Pappy, Weller, & one other “high end” bourbon (I can’t remember which one it was… maybe a Stag or the Old Forester Birthday?).

DH and I will be at a party. I suppose they'll have champagne at midnight. I'll have to watch it earlier in the night, though. I can have exactly one drink before I start really feeling it. If I don't pace myself, champagne at midnight will put me over the edge!

On another note, 2023 was the year I had my first shot. Like ever. We were at a party for a friend's 60th birthday and they had an open bar. Someone brought around tequila shots so I decided to try one. DH taped me drinking it to show DS25 who would never believe it otherwise. OK, so I was 58 before I had my first shot. I wasn't a partier in college. Once I went to a BYOB party, brought wine coolers and drank one. That' was a wild night! :rotfl:
