What will you be doing by January 2025?

I suppose it would be more interesting if 2020 were 5-years ago and 2000 was 10-years ago, but......

Well, I'll know if our retirement planning worked. We retired early 2 1/2 years ago. Been living entirely off savings. I reached full Social Security retirement age last month, my wife hits that mark in May. 2025 will be our first full year of retirement where we stop living off savings. Social security will be double what we have been living on, and pretty much the same as what our take home pay was working. Time for some travel!

You’ve said this before, that social security will be the same / more than your take home pay and I don’t understand how. Is this due to medical premiums, 401k and union dues that were deducted? Because my current estimated social security payment at 67 is only about 68% of my current take home pay (after both pension & 457b contributions & medical premiums). It jumps to only 85% if I hold off until 70.

Yes to all three for my wife. Yes to everything but union dues for me.
But the biggest difference is, much lower tax bracket.
The average Social Security benefit is $1764 a month. The maximum is $4554. I am much closer to the average than the max, but at this point of my life the biggest expenses we had......mortgage and car payment.....are behind us and I hope I will never have either ever again.
Oh, and it also shows that people who work in local TV don't make big money. In California all employers now have to post a salary range in job listings. My neighbor was shocked at how low pay is. For example, the CBS station here is looking for a Production Assistant. Pay is $17 an hour. There is a McDonalds across the street and come April 1, the state imposed minimum wage there will be $20 an hour. Yup, job requires a College Degree and some work experience and pays $3 an hour less and a job that does not require even a High School Diploma.

But it’s enough to get you in the 32% tax bracket. So maybe not such low pay.

Hopefully getting ready for a trip to London, a place I normally use as a transport hub and haven’t seen as a tourist since the 1970s.

Fun! Including Canadian NHL arenas?
Yes, the only current Canadian NHL arena I haven’t visited is Edmonton’s relatively new place.

I’ve been to both old and new in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. Plus the old Edmonton arena. Plus the current Saddledome in Calgary.

I’ll probably combine Edmonton with Calgary again.

I am usually off during the month of January so will hopefully have a long weekend trip in the plans. Just happy to be alive and healthy.

Unless you consider a current U.S. Senate candidate's proposal to make minimum wage $50 an hour.

What are you talking about??? That has nothing to do with my comment. I was responding to your statement that people who work in local TV don’t make big money. Which you have frequently said you never made big money. And you also recently said you were in the 32% tax bracket when you were working. The 32% tax bracket starts at over $360K for married filing joint. By no stretch of the imagination is that not “big money”. Even “before deductions.”
