What will we carry...and how?

We are trying to understand what exactly we will need to carry around the Parks in terms of Tickets and other papers.

There are 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids.

Here are my questions:

1) I know they put MYW Dining on your Room Key. Is it a credit card like piece of plastic? Is there just one for the whole family?

2) Is your ParkHopper a seperate Thing? Is it Paper or Plastic? Does each person have their own?

3) How about FastPasses? Are they just a little piece of paper?

4) What other things will we need to carry? Photo ID? Anything else?

5) What is the best way to carry all of this? We were thinking of buying a Passporter Passholder. Will one be ennough to hold all of our stuff???

Generally, I've found that the non-tickets-and-papers items we "need" to carry around the parks far outweight the tickets-and-papers items, so whatever you're using to carry your personal items, ponchos, snacks for the children, etc., generally has sufficient extra space available for the small amount of material represented by room keys, admission tickets, FastPasses, photo ID, etc., even if none of these items are consolidated together. However, if you're so inclined, the Passporter Passholder is large enough to hold the tickets-and-papers items, even for several people. I have about a dozen of them I've collected from various technical conferences I've gone to, and tend to use them whenever I have to go through airports, carrying my US Passport, airline reservation receipts, boarding passes, etc.

Well we have in the past carried non-ticket and money stuff in a big nylon bag. When we go on rides, we leave it in the stroller. There are NO valuables in there, so we don't worry about anyone stealing it. Hey if you want our cruddy sweatshirts, extra socks and bandaids etc...be my guest.

We carry a camera in a fanny pack. But last trip we found it a pain to carry our tickets/cards in there, you had to bend over and dig threw it. We want something we can put around our neck that we can access easily. But we are not sure what all is involved.

Is the MWY dining pass just on our room key. Do we have sep. Park Hopper Pass. What material? This is the info that we are looking for.

Last time I bought a WDW waistpack ... totally touristy and cheezy, but it was large enough (and had dividers to keep organized) to hold everyone's park passes, room keys, DDE letter, fast passes when we got them, as well as my camera, extra battery, small tube of sunblock, tissues, etc. We still had our stroller and kept the diaper bag underneath with the bigger stuff, but I really liked having all the little, most essential stuff right there. These were also the most valuable items, so I felt better having them on my person instead of leaving it in our backpack with the stroller while going on rides.

This time I have a passholder lanyard from AllEarsNet that I'm going to use for our passes and room keys, and make someone else carry all that other stuff!

I'm also eagerly awaiting the answers you are seeking but nobody seems to have read your question thoroughly . I haven't been to the World since '94 and I want to know about room keys ,ticket material, how much "paper" stuff we need to carry as well . Anybody have an answer for us ? Elisa

The six times I've gone to WDW my room key has always been my ticket media as well. It works like a credit card all over WDW (be careful with it).

It's plastic, just like a credit card (or almost any other hotel key I've gotten in the last 5 years or longer...but these have a picture of Mickey mouse or Tinkerbell and not the word "Ramada" printed on them).

Each person has had their own.

Fast Passes are little scraps of paper.

We needed our ID only to buy Booze.

Never used the Passporter Holder.

If you bought a room/ticket package, your room key (like a credit card) will also be your park ticket. At least that's how ours were last year. Nothing extra for hoppers - it's coded into the ticket. Fast Passes are separate slips of paper. I personally do not think a Passporter would be the most convenient way to carry these around - it doesn't have a strap, does it? So you'd have to hold it in your hand the entire time. I kept my ticket and FPs in my pocket last year, and put anything else I needed in a waist pack. The only things I carried into the parks were:

Pockets - park pass, fast passes, park map
Waist pack - camera with extra batteries and memory cards, ibuprofen, sunglasses, photo ID, credit card, cash, laminated card with PSs and family's room numbers/cell phone numbers, pre-cut moleskin

It's just DH and I. We carry the bare minimum. Last time we went was the Fairytale package. We had our CC linked as well so we had charging privies. So I carried the room key that was a credit card and ticket and my drivers' license.

I also carried our digital camera one day when we were apart. I looped the case thru a belt around my shorts. That's it.

DH usually wears cargo shorts and he usually has the camera either on his belt or in his pocket. He carries a baggie to put it in in case of wet rides. He also usually carries his wallet and puts that in the baggie if needed. We've also put the cheap ponchos in the little bags they come in in his pockets, but the last two trips to WDW have been in October and we havent' had a bit of rain.

I slather myself with sunscreen in the morning and am fine for the day and I have very light skin. (I also use a minimum of SPF30). Then we head back to the room around mid-afternoon. Rest, shower, and head back out for the evening.

Yes the MYW dining plan is also on your room key. The plastic credit card size card is your room key, dining plan and park ticket. You have the option at check in to also have charging privleges put on it-they will link it to your credit card.

We (I) carried our room key and extra $$ in a fanny pack. We had a back pack that we used some days for the rain panchos and camera. After getting drenched our first night there we carried the panchos pretty much every day after that.

I'm 21 and do the "fanny pack" thing. Thank goodness for them. I find backpacks and bags with shoulder straps a big pain in the you know what when we're in the parks. Plus, I also don't have to worry about securing it, I know it's not going anywhere. I keep cash, CC's, park tickets, and our DDE card in the compartment in the back, closest to my body. Camera, lip gloss, brush, DBF's wallet, all go in that main compartment. Extra film in the front. Even though I do the fanny pack thing, I do remain with the younger generation by wearing it turned around, on my hip or, well, fanny. That way it doesn't show in pictures either. I think that's a happy medium. Plus, they're big enough so I can fit everything I need. They're great! LoL.

The reason I ask is that I am planning on paying OOP for one dinner and then using my extra TS credit toward California Grill which requires 2 per person.

So can I give them the card and say "charge it" or "Dining plan it" ?? Or am I better off just taking a charge card?

I also tend to de-magnetize my room keys (magnetic personality?) so I assume Disney can re-load a new card for me?

For jackets ( we go in Dec), we rent a locker under the train station at the front entrance.

It's 7 bucks, but 2 of that is a refundable deposit....we've kept the jackets, extra sweat shirts (49 degrees is 49 degrees, Florida or not) bottles of water and the camcorder there, so it's not too small a box (not too large, but jackets "smoosh").

For the folks, on site take advantage of the free service of having your purchases sent to your resort. It'll show up there the next day and you won't have to carry stuff around the parks. We do this every time, never had a problem.

If you're not on-site, Disney will take your purchase to the front of the park and you may pick it up as you leave the park....(I have never done this, so I couldn't tell you how much line waiting there is or what the lag time must be from your final purchase until you can get you items.)

We took hooded zip-front sweatshirts and just tied them around our waist when we didn't want to wear them. However, this was during an unusually (I think) cold week in December, and we ended up wearing them most of the day. If we only needed them for a couple of hours in the morning, we probably would have found a locker.

Although my kids were really past the stroller stage on our last trip, we rented one anyway. They could still fit in it, when they were really tired, and we used it as a portable locker.

When we went the coats were constantly on and off as the sun and wind ebbed and flowed.

Putting stuff in a far away locker would not have helped. But we could just throw the jackets in the stroller when we did not need them.

Not the cheapest option, but we felt it was more than worth it.

Thanks for your replys! Do all of the parks have lockers? I'm thinking that might work best for us. One person could run back and get jackets if we were not close by.
