Ok, If i understand correctly, If you buy a DVC today, for say SSR, You own it til 2054 or something-
Now, each yr that goes by, if you don't buy one, you get less and less of a value.. correct?
Example, if i wait and buy 5 yrs from now, assuming they don't extend the date or build new units, I would have been better off buying today , as i will have 5 less vacation yrs as someone who buys today. Correct??

So, i guess my question is, I am not looking to buy right now, but do you see that in the future, disney will extend the date if and when they build a new DVC site? I guess i am just hoping that when i do want to buy, i will be getting the longest amt. of yrs at WDW that i can.. I don't want to feel i missed years.
Does that even make sense?? :confused3 :)

My guide said that the next few DVC resorts made will have the same 2054 exp as SSR. It took them 12 years to change the contract exp they started in 1992 for OKW so i dont expect a new contract exp date for a while. For some people this isnt a big deal it made a difference for me and my wife since when OKW,BCV,BWV,VWL,VB,HHI, exp I will be 62 compared to 74 for SSR.

I understand what your saying. Yes.....mathmatically the longer you wait the longer the pay off or break even. As years pass the point price increases and there are less years to average cost DVC down. But on the other hand you have to look at it in a personnel way......affordability today verse 5 years from now. For me we looked 5 years ago but put it on hold for a home and to get the kids college saving plans in high gear.....so this past January we finally signed on the dotted line.....5 years later.

As far as new DVC...I'm sure there is something in the pipeline. There have been rumors about the CRV and/or some type of resort on the monorail system where the old Disney air strip was. Regardless if you can afford it go for it......if your stretching the budget wait a bit........don't forget to check resales.......

I get what you're saying...but I don;t think there will be contract extensions. Since most resorts are 46 to 50 years old when their contracts expire...even with regular maintenace they may be near the end of their useful lives, they may be "dated" and in need of major updated for new technology and services that will become available as the years pass...sometimes it is better/cheaper to simply tear down what is there rather than try to rehab. In any event, the resorts may operate on additional year to give everyone a fair chance to use their last point allotment, but after that I think they will be turned back over to the WDW company to use or demolish as they please. If timeshares are still a popular way to vacation when these contracts expire, I think you may see demolition, new construction on the same site, and a whole new "DVC." Who knows what the future holds for theme parks in 50 years, though unlikely, they may no longer be "THE" place to vacation?

I agree with Chuck, and you have to factor in your own age as well. How interested will you be in renewing in 2054? I plan to be long gone from this rotating coil by then, and wont much care WHAT my kids do with it, if THEY are even around yet!

Thanks everyone, i totally understand what you are all saying..
I guess i am just a bit bummed, because we are not in the position to buy right now, however, 5 or 10 yrs from now, we might want to.
So, If we buy into a 2054 exp. date now, we get 48 yrs, however, if we wait say 5 yrs, we will only get 43 yrs.. And probably end up paying more for the DVC, unless we got a resale... right?? That just kinda stinks!! LOL

I wouldn't let it worry you to much. We just purchased at HHI, so we have 36 years left on the contract.

I figure anything after the break-even period (+/- 7 yr ) is gravy. :cool1:

That is true.. i hadn't really thought about it like that... Too busy looking at the small picture.
Thanks!! BTW, we are vacationing at Disney HHI in Feb, my mom has a marriott TS, and we lucked out in getting a week at HHI!! I am excited!

Hey - look at the flip side. That's 5 less years of maintenance fees you'll have to pay!
