What will be done with the treehouse villas?

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the former DI treehouse villas will be refurbished and become a DVC perk?

Don't know the answer, but I would love it if they were. That is one place I have wanted to stay since I started going to WDW in 1976. Never got the chance - would love to some time in the future.

Disney's original plan when it started the DVC resort was to eventually remove the treehouse villas and possibly use the space for new DVC villas or other use. Apparently some environmental issues have arisen, can't recall exactly what but possibly dealing with endangered species, which has led to the decision for the immediate futuree to keep and probably refurbish the tree house villas because Disney cannot put something else there. However, there is currently no plan to add them to DVC

we were at wdw in december and we were told the treehouses will be "grandfathered" in. they were still standing in december.:p

DW and I were told by the on duty DVC guide in the lobby of OKW that the Tree House Villas were protected and would be used in Phase 5 of the DVC resort at the Institute.

Does anyone know the configuration of the treehouses? ie, how many brdms, what size/type of beds etc? I think it would be fun to stay there sometime.

The Treehouses are about 1000 square feet on 2 stories.

They have 2 baths with a queen bed in each upstairs bedroom and a double bed in the downstairs study. There is a full kitchen and washer/dryer. They sleep 6 adults (and a child under 3).

They are somewhat dark, mostly due to the surrounding woods, but offer a nice setting. There is no jacuzzi tub in these units.

Years ago, they did have a king bed, queen bed and sleep sofa, but that has been modified to the current configuration. The treehouses have been refurbished in the past few years.

Enjoy!

It sounds as if they could be refurbished as DVC 2br units.....give one bedroom a king, one two queens or queen and pull out and a pull out in the living room? And add a jacuzzi tub? Even if there isn't a whole lot of room I believe there are jacuzzi tubs much the same size as standard tubs that could be used. The inconvenience of this could be offset by the fact that you have a free standing unit rather than an "apartment".

I'm another person who has always wanted to stay in a treehouse villa...just the name is compelling. I'd love if they added these to DVC.

Are any of the BRs large enough to hold 2 queen beds or a queen plus a sleeper sofa - so that the downstairs BR (isn't that where the laundry is located?) could be used as a hot tub or jacuzzi room? Just wondering. If they plan to incorporate these units into a future phase of DVC, will they still sleep 8 or would there be some DVC units that would sleep 6?

These villas are so unique, it's good that they are keeping them. :)

We can attest to that. If you take the boat from OKW to DD, you can see some of the treehouses. Three years ago, when we rented a boat and rode from OKW to PO, we could see a lot of the treehouses that had been stripped to bare rafters and framework for renovation. Twp years ago, we still saw some being worked on and others that had been "stripped" the year before were back to normal. When we went last March, we couldn't see any being worked on, so they had either finished renovating or were working on ones that are not visible from the water.

When we stayed at OKW in early December, we were told by one of the CMs driving the boat that the treehouses were going to be used for the College Program students coming to work at WDW. This was news to us but sounds very reasonable.

As of 12/26/02 on our visit to Downtown Disney at least the treehouse villas visible on the water were demolished, presumably to make way for the new DVc resort.

I doubt it was the Treehouses,I think you are confusing them with the townhousesin the area closer to DTD .

We stayed in the tree houses in 1999. Very unique and small because of the layout. I don't know what their like now after the renovation but back in 99 it was like this. Master bath was so small 2 people could not be in there unless one was in the tub. The tub (tub/shower) was only a 3' circle (if that) but very deep. very unusual (terrible). The master was nice w/king. I don't remember if there was a TV. Upsairs bdrm was also nice w/queen. Small bath off living room. Living room was nice (no sleeper). Kitchen, very small, could hardly get around with the table in there. 3rd bdrm was down stairs w/laundry off of that. No down bath. They could never get a spa tub in upstairs but they all have very large decks overlooking the river that have plenty of room for a spa. Of coarse that I'm sure will never happen. We did enjoy our stay there very much. It was our 1st time on property and this is what motivated our buying into DVC. In fact we bought within 2 weeks of getting home from that trip. For that reason inspite of how I discribed them, I have fond memories of those Tree Houses
