Hi there...we are staying at WDW (POP) for 14 nights and are not planning on renting a car...but..I do need my shopping fix!! :cloud9: I've been to a few resort shops (and park shops), but am wondering which ones have the most variety. I'm not looking for just souvenir type stuff, but department store stuff.

My husband needs a decent pair of walking sandals, and I'd like to shop for beach towels, clothes, etc (not necessarily Disney stuff). Is this type of thing available at their stores, or should I just rent a car for the day to do my 'shopping'?:confused3

Thanks.

The world of Disney in downtown disney (marketplace) has everything that is sold in most resort and park shops. There are also other specialty shops in the marketplace that carry name brand sandals, shirts, towels etc.

The bolded section is the rub. World of Disney in DtD has tons of merchandise, in lots of sizes, colors, etc. but it is just about all about Disney. If you wish to avoid having mouse ears on the clothes, you about have to go into the sports section and buy something that has a sports team logo on it instead (and they don't exactly cover all sports teams). To top it off, there is that Disney "premium" added to the cost of everything there.

If you want something a little different from WDW (clothing without corporate advertising all over it), your best bet is to rent a car and find a mall or shops elsewhere.

I would go to Prime Outlet mall if you have a car or take a taxi or see if theres a shuttle...its right down the road...it also has a Disney store with sale items, clearence items, last year items...

Outside of WDW is a shoppers paradise, if that's your thing, you'd be silly not to rent a car and go party.

But how will you get all that stuff back home on a plane? THAT'S the cruel joke here.

We drove down every year as a kid and drove back with us kids hanging out of the car because of all the crap we bought.

After flying here for the first time, it wasn't the same for me. I only drive now and hate flying unless I have to be here or in NYC fast. But I live here now and car rentals are cheap so driving north and back will be the way for me.

thanks..it looks like we might be renting a car for a day. I've been in the Disney area before..and know all too well of all my 'opportunities' ;), to shop. I was thinking if I could pick up a few things without going off site, it might be better. However, by the time I pay premium prices on site, it would probably just be cheaper to rent the car!!

As far as getting it all back home...we are flying with Southwest, and we're only bringing one bag each down, so that gives us another bag each (4)...for newly acquired items. :thumbsup2

Hmm...that might just cost me more than buying a few items at premium prices'':scared1:

Okay...back to my original question...If I decide to shop on site only...what shops are the largest, with the most variety??

Thanks.

Mouse Gear at Epcot and World of Disney at DTD have my vote for the largest selections.

Remember that your resort has a bus that will take you to DTD. The World of Disney is the largest store there. However some of the smaller stores there may have some things your husband may like - like the sportswear store. If you are buying for any kids, there is the big Lego store and also the big toy store.

With 14 days to visit, take the bus to DTD first. Then if it doesn't have everything you want, maybe rent a car for one day and 'go out'.

Enjoy your trip

Do it before you leave or go offsite and shop at the Premium Outlets on I-4. Even the World of Disney is still Disney on everything. And you'll probably pay more than you would at home for poorer quality.

Downtown Disney shops offer the most variety and "non-Disney" Brands on park. Excellent:thumbsup2 We also like to shop in the Deluxe resorts boutiques after dining...AKL, Grand Floridian, Poly....they all have designer labels and unique shopping to offer, again, many non-Disney labels.
