and can you QUESS what thread inspired this one

seriously - don't lie...
we all got SOMETHING at our wedding that was hideous or odd...
I won't tell your relatives...

MINE was a GAWD UGLY Rooster lamp
I have NO IDEA what this person was thinking... they knew me well enough to know...

just what a couple in their twentys needs right...

Decorative towels. Seriously, we didn't get many bad wedding gifts...and no duplicates. It was amazing.

Gosh, it was back in 1975 so let me think...we got a lot of kitchen stuff, blenders, toasters, irons (took duplicates back and got things we still needed), some pretty serving platters/bowls, etc. And a ton of blankets, I think around a dozen or so. I don't really remember anything really BAD.

But we did receive a wedding gift (another blanket!) a full YEAR after our wedding. I think THAT was what bugged me the most, not that it was another blanket, but that they waited a WHOLE YEAR to give it to us. :confused3

We got a matching set of those crocheted toilet paper covers with a doll's head and body on the top! :rotfl2: They were from dh's great-aunt, and I know they came straight from her heart, but it cracks me up to look at them. They sit on top of ds11's fish tank now. He calls them "The Overseers." :scared:

one of DH's aunts gave us a portrait she had painted and had hanging around her house for years - and she wasn't that good an artist!:confused3

one of Dh's smart alec uncles gave us an "anonymous" card with a condom in it and some smart a***** remarks! Needless to say, I don't share his sense of humor. We'd been living in sin for years, so I think it was obvious we had that covered!

I really can't think of any. The majority of our gifts were cash & checks. :thumbsup2

DH's aunt whose adult univited daughter tagged along gave us a giant candle. So not really horrible I guess--just sort of cheap for 3 people when one wasn't even invited. We had a small wedding and most everyone bought off our registry.

Now, MIL for my shower gift bought me these awful ugly glasses that went straight to goodwill. She said she looked at my registry and saw that I registered for glasses but she thought these were much prettier. Uh yeah, 65yo woman certainly knows what a 23yo likes better than she does.

We got an obviously used casserole dish that sat on a little trivet.

The person who gave it to us was quite wealthy, but also rather eccentric.

We got a large serving plate with 3-D ceramic shrimp (heads in all) all around the boarder....the thing is hilarious....still cant figure out where you would even buy something like it.....

About the only thing I can think of were a few checks made out to "Mr. and Mrs. Salmoneous Smith". DW thought long and hard deciding if she wanted to endorse them.

We got a matching crocheted toilet paper cozy and kleenex cozy. Although to be fair the lady that made them went to a lot of trouble to find out our colors and she was very thoughtful.

We also got a lot of crystal doo-dads from the older ladies in MIL's church. I hate crystal and didn't register for any. But again, that's just what they do.

No FAIR!!!

used cookware, oh yes, it was obviously used. It came from a crazy neighbor lady, so we didn't expect anything less.:rotfl:

Technically, by etiquette standards you have a year to send the gift. So, although it might have aggrevated you, they were stillw within the correct timeframe.

Let me think... Oh! We got a set of brown towels (I hate brown towels). This was from someone who decided last minute not to come and was supposed to be reading in the wedding. It was Wal-Mart brand, too. I'm not digging on Wal-Mart, I love their SPA collection of towels... but these were the little thin kind.
