What was your favorite board game growing up??

Candyland when I was a young kid. Then Monopoly and Stratego when I got older.

I loved Clue. Anything where you could pretend to be a character.

I hated Sorry because I always had to play it with my brother and his tone of voice when he said "Sorry!" and pushed my pieces back to start just drove me crazy!!!

Monopoly - I was always the thimble. :)
Trouble
Chess
Mah Jongg - we're Chinese, so this got really heated when we played.

Clue- I love a mystery! I even had some video version of it...

I still have my Super NES Clue game and the Super NES to play it on!

Mousetrap, Clue, Life and Monopoly

:wizard:

I loved to play Clue when I could put the 3 cards in the pocket. It really messes people up when you put in 2 people, one weapon and no room.

I loved Careers. Anyone remember that one?? (Orange box I think)

CLue... Racko... Macala...Stratego...battleship

When I got older... I loved Risk.

Life :goodvibes My cousin and I played it all the time, we added things to the board and kept a running game going the whole time we would spend together. We would also play Risk once in awhile.

"Candyland" and "Go To The Head Of The Class".. :flower:

I'm not!! Dish it out.

LOL, since ya'll asked...

I grew up with a really large family (I have over 23 cousins) and 6 of us lived in the same rural neighborhood (me, Jaison, Easy, "The Two Natured One" (this is what we call HIM), David, and Sara.). My grandparents also lived next door and we hung out there if it was raining or too hot outside to play (remember this was central FL). One day, when we were ages 6-14, it was raining and really humid and none of us wanted to play outside or go home. Since we were fighting over watching the Disney Channel or another episode of Dukes of Hazzard, my aunt brought over a board game for us to play. We never played board games so it seemed like fun...boy were we wrong. It started out with a fight over who got to be the car (note that Sara and I were happy being the dog and the horse). Names were called and "The Two Natured One" bit David when he snatched the car. My grandpa came into the dining room and told them to go get a switch for fighting.

*Side Note* In our family, if we were bad at our grandparents we had to go out to the back pasture and pick a switch to get smacked with (our grandparents were "old school"). The switches were these dried out long, thin sticks that grew out of the ground...I think they were once plants in a happier time. Now if you got a switch that was deemed too small, my grandpa went and got the largest one he could find. NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN!! Oh, and also never be a smart butt and bring him a tree branch 'cause he'll hit you with it...
Anyways back to the story...
So, after their smackin' our grandpa let Easy be the car (I remember it was Easy because it STILL gets brought up). We also made up our own rules.

1. No one buys any property until passing Go once.
2. Anytime you had to give the bank money (property tax, etc) it went into the middle and if you landed on Free parking you got that money.
3. You could borrow or trade with another player if it was mutual.

So we proceeded to play (keeping the insults and arguements to a whisper to avoid trouble) and somehow I ended up with one railroad and "The Two Natured One" had the other three. Ut Oh. Trying to be nice, he offered me his red property (I had two) and 500. I said no. (Easy earned a punch on the arm for snickering) He offered me the utilities (he had both)...I said No. (David decided to go to the potty) He called me a name and (meanly I might add) offered me Boardwalk and Park Place. Getting annoyed, I said NO. (While we love him, tormenting "The Two Natured One" is a family hobby) Thats when it got interesting. He said, "Fine snot, here is the red card, the utilities, the blue cards, my yellow and two green ones and ALL MY MONEY! GIVE ME THAT RAILROAD!!" (BTW, this left him with just those 3 railroads) I sat there thinking it over, gave a half smile and said....No thank you. (by this time that railroad was a matter of principle) He leaped over the table and we both went over backwards fighting, the chair crashing loudly. Poor Jaison got a foot in the side of the head since he was sitting next to me. Sara ran screaming for Grandpa, who was on his way. (BTW, my grandma had cancer and was bedridden so she was yelling at us from her bedroom) Easy was trying to get his psycho brother off of me when Grandpa came into the room. Feeling righteous, I told what started the fight. At that age (I was 11) I thought I was in no way in the wrong, but now as an adult I can see I egged him on LOL. Grandpa went and swept the game into the box and took it away. Wow, we got off lightly...until he came back. Needless to say, we went to get a switch *sigh*. When my aunt came over (she got a phone call), Grandpa told her he was forever banning all board games from his house. From then on, everyone refered to it as "The Great Monopoly Incident of '91". That game put us off board games for most of our lives. We were in our early 20s (except David and Sara) when we played board games again and we still fight. Something about board games brings out the wild in us LOL.

LOL, remyandhollandsmommy! That reminds me of why my best friend and I decided to no longer play the card game "Spit". We ended that game with quite a few slapping fights!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I still want to be adopted by your family! I grew up with only one sister and my mother. Having a large family sounds like a blast!

By the way, we share the same Monopoly rules!

I loved Life. I also loved Hungry Hungry Hippos, which my mom did nor appreciate.

As a teenager, my friends (guys) all liked a game called Axis and Allies, which I think is a lot like Risk. I'll never forget one night...it took them an hour to set the darned thing up, and twenty minutes later only two people had taken turns. So one of the guys gets up to go get some sodas. He's handing a soda to his brother across the board ( I still remember...it was a Publix brand Lemon Lime) and his brother dropped it! All the pieces scattered. The look on his face was priceless! I still laugh about it to this day.
