What was your biggest food letdown???

Sci-Fi Dine in. It wasn't very good and while I loved the pretty walls and the atmosphere... it was not enough to make up for the food.

I have to agree with SciFi. The food wasn't bad, just OK. Great atmosphere, but after eating there twice, that's it for us!

For us, it was Cinderella's Royal Table. Super slow, messed up DS order and the rest of the food was just meh. Major letdown.

:sad2: I did not care for my fish and chips at the Rose & Crown at all. It was really bad. Mrs. Pauls and McDonald's would have been better. But I will say the little 6 year old boy from England sitting next to us moose licked his plate. His Mom said he just didn't have the palate for the rich foods here in the States and it was the first time he had eaten well the two weeks they had been there. So I guess that is a testament to how good the Fish and Chips are at the Rose & Crown.

Then there was the sugar free brownie with my meal at Cosmic Ray's. What the hell was I thinking-we used it later at AKV for a door stop.

I was disappointed with the filet and mac & cheese at Jiko in June 2010.

We had eaten at Jiko one other time and I had order the maize crusted fish (cannot remember the extact variety) with vegetables and a tomato butter sauce. It was lick-the-bowl fantastic!

On the second visit, I could not decided what to order so I went with the dish I had read about so often. It was a decent. Nothing memorable. I was disappointed.

Definitely my bad choice.

Sci Fi Diner, many rave about this and how their so excited to go but frankly the food was kind of digusting, the movie was bad, and we didn't even get to sit in a car:sick::mad::lmao:

What was different about it? I haven't tried the one at BD, but have heard it's spot on to the original..

There wasn't anything wrong with the cobb salad, I am not complaining about it . I was really looking forward to it, and I really didn't like it. My wife had the best meal of the trip, and I was stuck eating a cobb salad. :sad1:

Unfortunately Disney is not "the place to go" for gourmet food-heck most food. If you want an authentic delicious ethnic meal from say Italy...go to Italy. I bet most of us have an awesome gourmet/ethnic restaurant where we live. Disney is not in the food business-that much is obvious.
It's too bad that Disney cannot even do burgers/salads/mac n cheese/chicken nuggets/pizza decently. How can you mess up pizza or mac n cheese for crying out loud? It's too bad that in a place like this where one is staying for extended periods of time, most of the food is not even good. We expect some amusement park food to be overpriced and ok, but when you have to eat 3 meals a day for a week or more for some people, I mean come on!
I don't know why there are inconsistencies with some of the meals in the same place-they make this food countless times every day! Mcdonalds can do it-Disney should be amazing at it, like they are at most everything else!
I LOVE Disney and will always go, it's just that the food is sub par most of the time and that makes me dissappointed and sad that a company that excels at quality entertainment can't getsimple meals down!

We just got back from our first family trip and totally enjoyed our DxDP!! :) Our biggest disappointment was Ohana too! The food was really salty...our server, Joan, was so distracted and forgetful...and we finished breakfast and needed to sit and try to wait almost 1/2 hour with a very excited 3.5 year old who was just dying to see Stitch and Mickey!!!

We also were disappointed with the server at Mama Melrose...we did notice that he was the only one out of sync so to speak, so we'll definitely give it another try since the food was good.

We tried the Dole Whips after reading about them so frequently on dis and they were good...but it was on one of the cooler nights so maybe that's why we didn't find them spectacular!!!! I bet on a hot day they would be really refreshing!!

After eating at so many great restaurants (Garden Grill was out FAVE!), we were disappointed that we each used 2 credits to eat at The Brown Derby. Definitely no better than other 1 credit TS meals.

We loved the pizza at Port Orleans! :) Cute pizza box too! :)

These threads are such a waste of time, sorry. I have counted atleast 10 things people have listed that I loved...school bread, 'Ohana (especially the bread pudding), funnel cakes, cupcakes from SR, Dole Whips, Akerhus...

What is the point? Just to be able to be negative? This shouldn't influence people in any way, and if it does that's too bad, b/c someone may not try something at WDW just b/c someone on here said they didn't like it. It's all a matter of taste.

No one is forcing you to read it. If you consider "these threads" a waste of time, why would you come to this website in the first place? The point of these boards is to read reviews, opinions, and tips, right?

To the original poster, my biggest letdowns were CRT (dinner) and Boma (breakfast). I know now that CRT is about the *experience* more than the food and....Boma was just a typical breakfast buffet. I think expected something really special. If I had gone in expecting average then it would have been fine, but I expected much more.

Whispering Canyon has been the only restaurant that I've truely disappointed in. The food was mediocre and although I didn't overeat (we ordered the platter, had 6 people, and there was enough food for at least 10 people), and felt not great afterwards. Dole Whips were also a disappointment - just too sweet for me.

Ours was California Grill. I think it was just too fancy for us, but we enjoyed every other meal we had on our last trip.

In addition to not really caring for the food, fog rolled in about 10 minutes before the fireworks, and we couldn't see a thing. That was a huge bummer for us.

For me, it was definitely the scrambled eggs. Scrambled eggs are one of my favorite foods and, aside from Pop Century, anywhere I got eggs were just plain nasty:sick: Very obviously powdered eggs, tasteless, inedible. The absolute WORST were the eggs on the platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

While we've had various forms of dining let downs...the two highest ranking let downs were Boma and Le Cellier. I tend to rank the Boma experience below Le Cellier b/c my expectations for Le Cellier were lowered to begin with. People rave about it, but we're sort of steak snobs and we have some friends who said that while we'd like it- we'd also find it very average to slightly below avg. We tried a number of the faves...the soup, the filet, the mashed potatoes... and I found the steak to be below the filet our mid grade local steak houses offer, my mashed potatoes blow theirs out of the water, and the soup had sort of a canned taste to it. The pretzel bread was at least decent. So, not exactly a rave review for Le Cellier, but like I said- I expected something between below average to mediocre...i.e. just needed to confirm for myself.

Boma on the other hand had me totally excited. I love trying new foods and the hype over zebra domes and pineapple cheesecake had my mouth watering well before the 180 day mark. When it finally came time to eat here... we found very few meat based options that were good. i.e. most were very cheap pieces of meat, fatty, greasy, poorly seasoned and either over or under cooked. I loved a few of the side dishes including this one couscous option...but $40+ pp for couscous is pathetic. When it was time for dessert, there were many zebra domes, but no pineapple cheesecake that night. :sad1: The zebra domes weren't awful, but it left me feeling like "all that hype for these?!?!?!?"

So, while we left Le Cellier wondering why such avg steaks were getting fine dining steak raves...we didn't feel like it was a waste of $ to dine there either. So, since we went into Boma with high expectations and left feeling slighted...that is the worst food letdown we've had at WDW.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I have to agree with what some others have said - by the title apparently this thread wasn't going to be your cup of tea, so why bother with it?

ETA - to the OP for me it was Dole Whips. While I wouldn't use a word as harsh as disappointment, I didn't think they were as great as everyone said they are.

I wasn’t fussed by school bread either. I wouldn’t get it again and did find it over-hyped.

Most things did live up to the hype – peanut butter and chocolate cupcake at starring rolls (best cupcake ever) / California Grill / Grey Goose Slushies at Epcot.

Somethings even had no hype build around it – and I found them to be underrated – Yak and Yeti QS at Animal Kingdom in particular – the honey chilli chicken and rice was so good we had it twice in one trip!

Ours was the Hoop De Doo revue.

My collective in-laws, (Mother, brother, sister in-law) always told us that the show was great and that the food was fantastic including great ribs and the best fried chicken ever!

On our first trip we booked the Hoop De Doo and we learned for ourselves that the chicken isn't fried and we found that the ribs were rather dry. During the show my then seven year old son turned to me and said "This is corny can we leave and ride Splash Mountain again?"

We have had a couple grand gatherings since then and my in-laws insist on including the Hoop De Doo Revue for each gathering. My wife, son and I go along as it's family but we usually fill up on funnel cake, dole whip and school bread before we go.

It just goes to show you everyone is different.

Ours was the Yachtsman Steakhouse. I use to work in Food Services at the Yacht & Beach Club and loved when we'd get food from the kitchens. (Hello Creme Brulee!! :thumbsup2) so when we did a family trip in March 2009, the Steakhouse was one of our "must do" places.

We were less than impressed. We were the first to check in with an opening reservation & it took more than half an hour to seat us. I was annoyed watching everyone else be taken in. Then, dinner was less than stellar. My husband commented that he'd had better steak at Golden Corral than the YS. We won't be back...unless I stop in for dessert only!
;)

Dole Whip and pretzel for me, neither were awful but I expected them to be special, and they were bland.

I was so excited about Sanaa but after eating there it was not so good. I would typically like that type of food but it was bad. Same with Turf Club, the service and prime rib was atrocious.
