What was Disney thinking??!?!?!?

i find it a bit amusing that we are splitting hairs debating whether or not 'blurred lines' is ok in the park if it is the radio edit

I doubt Disney thinks they air "trashy teen shows"

And just to point out, there are those out there that think their animated movies are trashy too. The only way they can offend no one is to never play anything out loud.

The difference is that this song was written with the intention of being offensive. Why bother playing it then :confused3

Potc song promotes kidnapping, rape and murder...

Not saying all Disney songs are perfect either. Not even the movies. Heck, weren't the crows in Dumbo a bit racist? Cinderella was an ungrateful brat who fell in love with a man with a foot fetish. (Also, when was the last time a sober person lost a shoe?)

My point is, people who love Disney overlook the quirks of generations of good films. None of them are THAT bad. So sticking to Disney only music should help the offended. After all you can listen to whatever garbage you wish in your car on your way home. At Disney, it should be all Disney.

Every family is different! We had a totally different approach with our kids. We didn't try to hide our musical tastes from them, or change what we liked in order to set a good example. We shared what we loved.

Today they are teenagers and, especially in the case of our son who has turned into a huge music connoisseur/musician, their musical tastes have moved on from ours. There's such a short window in which to enjoy things together.

Exactly, every family is different, and I am glad you have the right to listen to whatever you want with your son at home. I feel the opposite that there is such a short window for our DS to enjoy things like Disney music and Raffi. I know all too soon Baby Beluga will no longer be his favorite tune. But to each their own, right? I still think it is weird to play music like that outside of the Playhouse Disney attraction, though. Not appropriate, it's not like it was the queue for Rockin Roller Coaster. And like others said, I prefer hearing Disney music in the parks or instrumental.

So a song about murder, rape and kidnapping is ok because its a classic?

I heard S&M being played at my dd soccer fest by the dj:scared1: At least if wasn't whistle by Flo Rida...nothing like learning about a little Fellatio technique to start of the morning. ;)

What saddens me is that you think everyone must conform to your opinion.. dont like the song dont listen, dont want your kids to hear it in the park? Briskly walk out the area.

I think she is asking Disney to have some sort of standards that include not playing music intended to degrade and offend women in their park, especially where very young impressionable minds are visiting.
I dont believe she expects everyone to conform to her opinion and not listen to the song.

hopefully they will play the radio edit when they start piping Easy E in the parks, then it will be ok. Since it's classic rap it will be even more ok.

Her standards are not the same as the next person. So who standards is correct?

Nobody is forcing it.. are you not the parent? Are you too helpless to divert your child's ears are move away from the area?

I do not think people need to conform. Be a little open to hearing what I am actually saying. What you listen to, in your home, is completely up to you and vice versa. We are not talking about peoples personal choices. We are talking about what people are being FORCED to listen to in PUBLIC. Not just that, but someplace that I paid money to get into. Not just that, put a place that someone has the REASONABLE EXPECTATION to hear FAMILY FRIENDLY music choices. I think it is UNFAIR to ask me to leave because a song with questionable lyrics is being played. How is UNFAIR to you to listen to songs that conform to the family friendly nature of DISNEY? Could you please give me a sound argument that addresses the specific question of how omitting "Blurred Lines" from Playhouse Disney Live is infringing on your rights as a Disney park attendee?

Well in this case we just need to look at the writers of the song. Its pretty clear what their standards are for it. ;)

When you take your child on potc.. they are forced to listen to a never ending loop of kidnapping rape and murder.. guess thats a ride that should be avoided

I don't think it is a huge deal, I mean whose kids are paying more attention to the background music at any of the parks, instead of what ride, character or attraction they are heading to next. If you don't make a big deal about stuff like that and point it out to your kids then are they really going to notice? Just my humble opinion.

Again. You made absolutely no attempt to make a valid, lucid argument. Bravo.

The question returns to where do you determine this? Someone out there is just as bothered by the hearing the songs at RnR or POTC as you are to Blurred Lines.

Funny thing is, I suspect Blurred Lines was not played with management approval. For all anyone knows, the person who played it was spoken to. Someone could have plugged in a play list and didn't even realize that song was on the list, then gotten busy and never even noticed it was playing. In my trips to Disney I couldn't have ever told you what song I heard where. I was rarely paying attention to the background noise.

one certainly can divert away from something offensive, but i think it's a bit strange to think that one would have to worry about that at Disney per say, particularly when we are talking about a song that cleary has adult language and meaning to...adult as in mature theme and adult as in XXX.

also, more importantly, one cannot "unhear" or "unsee" things...

Please post these lyrics you keep going on about, because if its true, I will avoid that ride with my kids.

I shouldn't have to leave a family oriented theme park that I paid thousands of dollars to enjoy just because someone was careless with music choices. If its really no big deal, why is there an FCC?
