What was Disney thinking??!?!?!?

ITA that its inappropriate. Honestly, I've found myself questioning radio disney's choices as well. On a three hour road trip last month, we had radio disney on the whole time for the kids and in that three hours, Selena Gomez's "Come and Get It" came on about a dozen times. Now I've seen her perform that live on an awards show and the "It" she's referring to is what we adults think it is. Not appropriate for a star idolized by young girls. Things like this is why so many girls wind up pregnant or taken advantage of. Our media sexualizes girls so young and they eat it up.

So, yes, I would have complained about lyrics like that playing in a family place. Disney won't let you in the park if you're wearing an offensive tshirt or have an offensive tattoo. Why not censor the music better?

She's almost 21, she won't sing disney songs her whole life.

1. Just because it is popular and people like it does not mean it is not vulgar.

2. Who cares if more people like it than dont like it. The people who like it can listen to it on their ipods with headphones, on their radios, at home, etc. Why should I have to listen to it if I think it is offensive.

3. The song is number one on billboard and is on the radio all the time. Good for them. I turn it off every time it comes on the radio. I can control what I listen to on the radio. I cannot control what is played to the public in an amusement park. Should I have to leave because I object to my young children hearing lyrics I find inappropriate for them? I think that is unfair. Mostly because, as I stated before, you do not NEED to hear that song in the park to make your vacation fun.

4. Who decides what lyrics are vulgar? Do you want me to go line by line? Or you could just read the pp's quote by the makers of this song where they openly confess that they made this song as demeaning to woman as possible on purpose. I think my biggest problem is that is justifies date rape because "he knows she wants it" even though she is a "good girl". Is this appropriate an amusement park whose demographics are families with young children? Absolutely not. How this is even in question BLOWS MY MIND!!!!

How it's even something people are debating blows my mind. I bet if you were to ask 100 people who were in the area at the time 95 of them wouldn't even have been able to tell you what song was playing. and 90 of them wouldn't have even realized a song was being played at all.

People are blowing this WAY, WAY out of proportion.

Again, all up in arms about something so superficial.. to me that what scares me about today's society imo..

It is extremely egotistical to dismiss something as superficial and stupid just because it does not happen to matter to you. Is there something, anything that you would find offensive, enough that you would be willing to defend your right not to be subjected to it? Anything at all. If so, how angry would it make you if I said, you are being ridiculous? Stop making a big deal out of nothing....

I do not tell people what they can and cannot be offended by.

You just proved my point

What point is that? I might not agree with Muslims being offended by women in bikinis, but I wouldnt wear one into a Mosque. In all seriousness, I may not agree with someone being offended by something that I do not find offensive, I do not go out of my way to tell them how stupid they are. I ignore it. Because it is common courtesy.

I find lots of things offensive. I don't happen to think I have a need to voice that opinion and request that others meet my level of comfort. Just 2 weeks ago I got subjected to Cee Lo Green's bare a$$ during a performance (at a family event none the less, but that's a different story). I found it very offensive. I love a good bare a$$ as much as the next gal but sadly, his doesn't make the top 100. I wouldn't have dreamed of complaining to anyone about it though. Had I, sure, they'd have been within their rights to tell me to get over it.

That said, I think you missed the point of my post. I said that most who where there likely didn't even pay attention to what was being played. I really never said anyone was being ridiculous or superficial. I said things are blown being out of proportion. I still think they are.

What scares me is that alot of society sees this stuff as superficial, and they just don't get the big picture. One day they will be running our country.

On that note, anyone ever see the movie Idiocracy? Dont watch it in front of the kids. ;)

A good mix of house/electronica provides great dance music and no concerns of the content of lyrics

I vote for that too! We love BPM on xm radio! We just got back from our trip and in Tomorrowland there was a DJ playing the best techno/trance mixes. No lyrics just music and everyone was having a blast dancing. One of our best memories was dancing with the characters!! :cool1:

I dont like saggy pants, in fact I.loath the style.. but its their right to dress the way they want. No more offensive than the madonna thing I guess.. but im not on a tyrade about it im not going to make them stop just because I personally do not like it..

You are comparing apples to oranges. That comparison would be more accurate to a woman walking around disney topless. Like I said, the lyrics are not ambiguous.

No it's the same thing.. you see it as apples and oranges because your the offended.

Yes.. ive also heard like a virgin, the thong song, darling nicki etc, little red corvette.. that never stopped us..

My niece listens to punk rock. Both me and her mother are punks since birth and that's exactly what her kid listens to as well. That said, I really have no problem with those lyrics as much as the fact that the song is just terrible.

Just remember, they play Love In An Elevator, Dude Looks Like A Lady, and Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith in Rock N Rollercoaster all with questionable lyrics. The only reason you don't complain is because it's good music and you have to be a certain height to ride it.

If it had swearing in then yeah, that would be totally inappropriate.

There are innuendos everywhere though - you can't shield your kids from it indefinitely. As a PP rightly pointed out - if they get the innuendos, there isn't really much to shield them from. And if they don't and it goes over their heads - it's just a song and not a big deal.

When they start blurting out Snoop Dogg I may take issue with it... ;)

Song played on main st. everyday...
"I could love a million girls" written by the Shermans

In case anybody thinks the song in question by the OP is merely innocent innuendo...Somehow I can't see Walt putting this on the playlist

Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

[Verse 1: Robin Thicke]
If you can't hear what I'm trying to say
If you can't read from the same page
Maybe I'm going deaf,
Maybe I'm going blind
Maybe I'm out of my mind

[Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke]
OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal, baby it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don't need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker

[Chorus: Robin Thicke]
And that's why I'm gon' take a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

[Verse 2: Robin Thicke]
What do they make dreams for
When you got them jeans on
What do we need steam for
You the hottest ***** in this place
I feel so lucky
Hey, hey, hey
You wanna hug me
Hey, hey, hey
What rhymes with hug me?
Hey, hey, hey

[Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke]
OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal, baby it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don't need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker
Hey, hey, hey

[Chorus: Robin Thicke]
And that's why I'm gon' take a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

[Verse 3: T.I.]
One thing I ask of you
Let me be the one you back that *** to
Yo, from Malibu, to Paribu
Yeah, had a *****, but she ain't bad as you
So hit me up when you passing through
I'll give you something big enough to tear your *** in two
Swag on, even when you dress casual
I mean it's almost unbearable
Then, honey you're not there when I'm
With my foresight ***** you pay me by
Nothing like your last guy, he too square for you
He don't smack that *** and pull your hair like that
So I just watch and wait for you to salute
But you didn't pick
Not many women can refuse this pimpin'
I'm a nice guy, but don't get it if you get with me

[Bridge: Robin Thicke]
Shake the vibe, get down, get up
Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
What you don't like work?

[Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke]
Baby can you breathe? I got this from Jamaica
It always works for me Dakota to Decatur, uh huh
No more pretending
Hey, hey, hey
Cause now you winning
Hey, hey, hey
Here's our beginning

[Chorus: Robin Thicke]
I always wanted a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

[Outro: Pharrell]
Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
