What to expect for DL's 60th anniversary in 2015 (Starting May 22)

Isn't there "paint the night" stuff? Like Mickey hands and magic wands? I thought I read that once upon a time. Like the Woc ear hats, but better?

I think you're right -- there is some Paint the Night swag. I expect a full array of Diamond-themed merchandise all year long, and then separate sub-categories of merchandise for each one of the events.

And treats! There will be themed goodies and treats!

I looked it up... There are magic paint brushes... At least in Hong Kong or wherever the parade is now... And the audience can use those to change the colors of the lights in the parade. And there are light up interactive ear headbands... Which we love much better than the big bulky hats! Other stuff too! Squee! pixiedust:

That's true... Her kids will be 8th, 6th and 1st grades... Might be that the 1st grader will be passed out before the fireworks end for the night lol

After a full day sometimes I'm ready to pass out before the fireworks end! ;)

I'm so curious what the schedule for the parade, fireworks, Fantasmic will be. I had been considering doing Fantasmic with a dining plan, but with so much other nighttime entertainment we might just skip that and do the regular FP, and just go if there is time, since we want to make sure to invest enough time to see the new stuff with as good a view as possible.

Thanks for the link Sherry.

I have been collecting the popcorn buckets over these last few years and the Mickey shape balloon is a very nice one to get.

AI'm not even a popcorn bucket collector, but those balloon buckets may lure me over to the dark side! (I suspect that figment_jii will be very happy with the new buckets!)
:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:
Now to choose...which color? Okay, being honest with myself...all three!

I just hope they stock up enough that when we get there later this year they actually have some things left. I was really disappointed to find they were out of the Mickey elf buckets by the second week of December last year.

I love reading all the "what if's and maybe's".
I would attend a MHP at DCA we really enjoyed our selves in 2014(except for the first few hours when it was jam packed but it was the first party).
Any way I saw the OC register video and had to come over and see what was being said on the DL Boards. We might have to make a trip down later this year for the BIG 60!
DL dripping in dimonds.

I haven't read through every post, but most. But I am curious if anyone thinks the castle will be covered up until the 22nd.

We are there the 16 - 23, so the 22nd will be our last day in the park. We are bringing a first timer with us, who loved DW last time we took him, and I would hate for him (and me :goodvibes) to see a tarped castle most of our trip!

I'm hoping it will be like the Christmas Castle that they just don't light up until the 22nd.

I wish the popcorn buckets had something on them indicating DL's 60th anniversary. Otherwise it looks like you could have just bought them anywhere.

There is no way that the castle will be covered until the 22nd. It's not just a matter of removing tarps -- there is also the scaffolding & refilling the moat. Also, I'm sure they must test the new elements for the fireworks show. I bet we see the castle uncovered in March.

From a quick scan of reports back in 2005, it sounds like they removed the tarps before the 50th anniversary kick-off, but they continued to add finishing touches until the date of the kick-off. So, while the castle's tarp may come down in March, the castle itself might not be "finished".

Quick question about the castle. I'm a little confused about what's going to be revealed and when. I'm visiting for spring break and have heard the castle will be unveiled in March. The Diamond anniversary unveiling is in May....so, what is the castle going to look like the last week of March? Am I going to get my diamonds? :confused3:worship::wizard:

How will this affect shows up until May 22nd? With a new Fireworks show, parade and new WOC, will the old fireworks, parades and WOC play up until May 21st or will they go down in preparation for the new shows?

Visiting April 30-May 4 and I REALLY want to see the parades especially since they were down when we visited in May four years ago!:sad::sad:

Thank you both! I can stop freaking out now!! :rotfl2:

Now I'm just hoping the crowds won't be astronimcal the week before with people arriving for the celebration. Hopefully they will just arrive a day or 2 before and stay afterward!

I'm pretty excited for what they announced last night. It all looks great and holds the nostalgia of Walt and Disneyland. This is why I love it so much.

Quote from Steve Davidson:

“Basically,” Davison explained in the Q&A immediately after the presentation, “…we’ve mapped out the street. Every single inch, every single corner…but what’s going to happen is, the whole street is going to be projected – in a crazy way…everything’s going to connect to each other. Everything’s going to become a storytelling device. This is a whole new palette for us. We’re going to put things all over the park, so you’ll see something different at small world…at Fantasmic…we’re going to have little things happen, windows open and shut. When you hear the music for the finale, you’re going to cry. The opening is fabulous. I wanted to bring Walt into this in a big way. We might or might not see him in the orange groves…? We’re going to tell the story in a fun way, and THEN we’re going to move it into the future.

The score will be recorded next week at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Here are a few other IMPORTANT ITEMS:

- The celebratory shows and parades will run throughout the anniversary celebration – no Christmas parade or shows will be running in 2015, according to Davison at the press Q&A.
- #itsallconnected – The parade floats will communicate with the costumes, the toys in the audience, the environment, everything will work together.
- Everything is still in the planning stages – rehearsals start in a few months. This means that everything above is subject to change.

It looks like I picked a good year to buy an AP. I hope to make it a couple more times this year to fully take it all in since I will only be there for the first day! Bow I just have to come into some money to pay for those trips. No prospects come to mind though!
