My bf and I are looking into doing the CP but go back and forth on whether or not we should do it! (I've never really left home, so I'm sure I'll get super homesick!) I had a couple questions I was hoping someone could help me with...

If we were to go in the fall, do they let you come home for christmas?? I would love to be down there for all the fall celebrations, but there's no way I could give up christmas with my family!

How hard is it to get a job as a character? It seems like most people I know who have done the CP end up in food service. Also, I saw that they now have people working in BBB - has anyone done that yet??

You'll be expected to have full availability during your time in the CP, and the holidays are definitively a busy season at WDW. You could do the Spring CP if you wanted to be home during Christmas.

Good luck with your decision!

You are required to have full availability during the CP, and you will definitely be scheduled during Christmas. You may be more interested in the Spring CP. Entertainment is a difficult role to get into, you must pass auditions and have certain requirements (like height). They just added the BBB as a role in the College Program, and there are tons of other great roles besides quick food. I did the CP and left my bf at home, and had a great time! You may feel less homesick if he does the CP too, but it's important to make new friends because that's what the experience is all about!

I was going to do the college program...I was supposed to be down there now but I didnt go. I am starting to regret it, so I would tell you to go

Disney expects full availability during the length of the program. If you cannot spend Christmas without family, my suggestion would be to apply for Spring instead.

Good luck making your decision.

Given that Christmas is among Disney's busiest times, fall CPs aren't going to be going home for Christmas. I would assume that pretty much all of them work on Christmas Day, too. That didn't keep our family from being together for Christmas, though, when my son did the fall CP. The rest of us (mom, dad, two brothers) came to visit! We had a tiny tree in our resort room with tiny packages under it. The packages contained pictures of a gift waiting at home. Our DS did have to work every day, but we still managed to spend a lot of time together. He was at a resort food court and worked roughly 6 a.m. to 1 most days. After he got off work, all of us enjoyed park time, meals, etc. together. At 10 or 11, the CP DS went to the resort to get some sleep while the rest of us enjoyed whatever park had late hours. The next morning, we slept in while he worked!

aww that's so nice!! I'm glad you were all able to still spend the holidays together. Unfortunately my family does not share my passion for Disney, so it's doubtful that they would do what you did. I'm glad you were able to spend time with him though. My bf's family is planning a trip in January that we may miss out on by doing the CP next spring, but hopefully we'll be able to work out park time and dinners with them!
