What to do with stuff on Kali...

Wait -- a card someone mentioned -- I need to have a credit card with me? I wasn't planning on bringing one, so this is needed info.

For your valuables: use the free lockers. If you must have your phone on your and/or wallet and such, carry some ziplock baggies with you. Put your stuff in those and then into your pockets.

Shoes: you have to wear your shoes on this ride, and I hate having wet shoes. I am not a sandals person, and I am always wearing tennis shoes and socks. Here is what I do to try to minimize wet feet:

  1. Before riding, I remove my socks and store them where they will stay dry.
  2. While riding, I do not have my feet on the floor of the ride. I ride with my feet pressed against the center section, several inches from the bottom. This helps prevent your feet from getting completely wet from all of the water that comes in and they usually only get splashed at most.
  3. Once ride is over, get some paper towels, dry off feet and put on dry socks.
Works for me, LOL

I really miss the middle covers they used to have on the boats. Those worked so well. Why on earth did they get rid of them?

They did not work well, IMO. There was standing water in them, it took forever for people to put all their crap in there, and then some dumb-butt would try to get something out during the ride.

Lockers don't use bands at all. That way, folks without them can use them too.

You go to one place, swipe your card and get a locker number. You then enter a passcode (I want to say four numbers?) and then you go to the locker, enter the passcode and put your stuff in it. Close the locker and you are done until you want to get your stuff out. When that happens, you go back to the locker, enter your code, and remove your stuff. If you go over the free limit, you will get charged on the card you swiped something like $6.95/hour after the free limit.

The lockers are not directly in front of the entrance to Kali River Rapids. If you look at where you get the FastPasses, it's over on the left side. Aisles are not very wide to get to the lockers so leave strollers out of the area.

Honestly I think people posting that they swiped a card are remembering incorrectly. I have used the lockers several times and never swiped a card

I'm sure they are too. DH got our lockers each time last week and I know for a fact he didn't have a credit card with him.

If it's only free for a short period of time, how do they charge you after your time is up if you don't swipe a card?

You have to pay to unlock it if you go over the allotted time. That's when you swipe.

The lockers are controlled by kiosk. The kiosk assigns you the locker number and unlocks it and asks you to enter in a PIN. You use the locker number and PIN to unlock the locker when you come back.

If you come back too late, it charges a fee. The ride lockers at Universal are similar (except at Universal, it is required to use them for many rides).

I do not know if you can pay via Magicband or not.

We rode it in June. Now, I had been on it maybe twice before and did not really get wet AND they had the center thing. I was oblivious and did not notice any lockers (or I could have left my bag with my DH who was watching the other kid if I had known). I was glad that I had a ziploc bag for my phone in my purse as I was SOAKED.

I was wondering about this, because I haven't been to WDW since the lockers were installed at Kali, but they have the same set-up at Grizzly River Run at DCA, and they definitely don't use a card there.

This is exactly how it worked. No card required at the beginning, or at the end if you get back in time. But I have no idea how to pay if you owe money. I'm sure you can swipe a card - but maybe you can get a CM to pay cash or magic band if necessary.

So glad I stopped to read these posts! Had no idea that free lockers are now available and I won't have to carry all the extra waterproofing baggies etc. for the entire family this time. Yippee!!!

But how would you swipe your card if your wallet is in the locker?? Lol.
I doubt I would go over the limit anyway but it just struck me as funny.

My son worked at Kali, according to him, the bins in the middle of the boat were a nightmare for the CMs. Getting people to be seated and buckled in is hard enough, but add in the time it takes for the futzing with belongings in the middle bin just made a total nightmare and slowed the process.
When the bins were removed, he said things started flowing more smoothly, and other than the hiccup of sending people back to the lockers, they had less complaints about wet, ruined personal items and seating was quicker.

I used to laugh and say no one rides Kali, especially when it's cold or rainy and he always came back with, "mom, it's one of the only things in the park small kids can go on, we were always busy"

Is there enough lockers? I'd be worried there would be no lockers, as people are using them for storage the whole day instead of just while on Kali.

The lockers are free for the first two hours, and according to a picture of a locker receipt in this article from easyWDW, it costs $10 an hour after that, so I doubt that anyone is going to be using them all day (unless they didn't notice the cost):

But could you just move stuff to a different locker if you wanted to use it for longer? I could see people doing that...

I use the lockers for my cross-body bag and the string bag my DH carries. The string bag contains very little. A couple of dollar store ponchos, a micro fiber towel and cheap pairs of flip-flops. We put on the ponchos and flip flops and store our shoes and socks in the string bag for the duration of the ride. After riding, we discard the ponchos or offer them to a guest entering the line. We dry our feet if necessary and put on our dry shoes and socks. The towel gets put into a zip loc bag we also bring. We only carry the string bag on days we do water rides. I used to use the center console and put our things in a BIG zip loc bag but that won't work any more.
