besides put it on hot dogs? My husband is the only one who eats it, so when I open a can, I have tons of it left. I have no idea what else to eat it on.

I usually pull out the electric skillet and cook my pork chops in it. Then about 15 to 20 minutes before they are done I dump ALOT of kraut on them and let it cook down some. It tastes heavenly. The only thing that I season the pork chops with prior to the kraut is salt and pepper.

Toss some bratwurst in it, and cook. In the summer, I grill the brats/sausages/any meat, and then toss the meat, kraut, peppers, onions, and a little beer in a disposable oven dish, and let it simmer on the grill.

I take chicken breast, cover it in blackened seasoning. Sear it on both sides, then put it in the oven. Heat the kraut a bit, and lay it down with the chicken on top. Take some sour cream, mix in some chili powder to make a dressing. Get some great bread, and slice pieces of the chicken cover with kraut and dressing. Spicy, and good.

Bake it into chocolate cake or cupcakes. It makes them surprisingly moist and you don't taste the sauerkraut at all!

Really! I have never heard this before but I am intrigued! I told my kids and they said we have to try it!

Make kielbasa, sauerkraut and potato soup.
Sausages and sauerkraut simmered together and then eaten with mashed potatoes.
Reuben sandwiches.

I love pork roast cooked with sauerkraut! :woohoo:

Some small markets carry tiny cans of sauerkraut. They're more expensive on a per-ounce basis, but you won't have leftovers.

Dump it over a pork roast and cook all day. 20 minutes before eating, make dumplings (bisquick) then spoon dumplings over sauerkraut and cook. Yum!!

I'm too chicken to try this, but somebody let me know how it comes out!!! would LOVE this if it worked!

You can freeze it too, just portion it out in freezer bags and cook it when you need it.

You could rinse it, then fry some chopped onions till they're well caramelized. Add the sauerkraut push to the side so that some sort of meat can fry in the pan (like bratwurst or pork chops). Make mashed potatoes and a vegie on the side. That's what I usually do--or make reubens or kapusniak (polish cabbage soup).

Someone mentioned dumplings. The best Ukrainian dumplings I ever had were filled with a sauerkraut filling. I'd like to learn to make those.

I do the samething but add three thinly sliced golden apples. It will give it a sweet taste the kids would like...this is the only way I will eat pork chops.

I also do a similar dish...pork chops any kind (bone-in boneless, thick thin)

Brown on both sides in a little olive oil

Add garlic, onion, sourkraut, apple juice, black pepper, chicken or beef broth and let simmer for about 2 hours.

yummy!

Sounds delicious. I have to try this.

For starters, I hate the canned stuff. Thought I hated it all until someone suggested the fresh in the cooler section in bags. I cook this with onions, peppers, salt, pepper, and brown sugar then add sliced, and browned keibasa sausage, then bake in casserole - delicious ;) Oh, and I rinse it first.
