I would like to bring my cameras to the beach, and also swim. With just the 2 of us though, there is no one left to watch the bags. Are there lockers to put stuff in? Is it safe to just hide them under your clothes?
In Cozumel we went to Mt. Sancho's Beach Club. If I recall correctly they had lockers in the restrooms. We didn't use them so I can't vouch for the quality. It seems I read on this board that the Chakannab Beach area also had lockers. Good luck!
We didn't want to risk our camera getting stolen or sandy/salty...so we took several underwater cameras with us to use for snorkeling and beach shots...the pics turned out great. The Fuji camera pics look better than the Kodak Camera...we later found out the Fuji film picks up the blues and greens better(which is why they took better beach shots), and that Kodak film picks up reds and yellows better. Walmart has the Fuji underwater cameras.
The Container Store has small bags that you "tie and lock" to your beach chair/hotel room chair ( in those rooms with no safe), etc. The fabric and lock cannot be cut off and it's large enough for camera, wallet, keys, jewelry, passports, etc. It's not cheap at $35 or $40 dollars but that's a small price to pay to safeguard your valuables. If there is not a store near you, go online to www.containerstore.com under the travel section.
Better yet - take your valuable right in the water with you! I'm going to order the Splash Caddy which I saw mentioned on these boards a while ago. Here's some information:
