What to do with 1 day tickets?

A friend of mine has four-1 day tickets left over from a previous trip. She wants to use them to upgrade tickets on her next trip. But, she wants to make her fast passes at the 60 day window. Is there any way to upgrade now and link to MDE? Can she apply the cost to her room bill? Please list any and all options (if there are any). Thanks.

Unfortunately tickets can only be upgraded in-person at WDW (at Park Ticket Windows, Guest Relations, or WDW Resort Concierge Desk). She can go ahead and make her FP+ selections for one-day and one-park but that is all she will be able to do in advance. Once the tickets are upgraded at WDW she can check available FP+ at the in-park kiosks or MDE app for the extra days and other parks..

If you mean she has 1-day left on what are multi-day tickets (which is what I'd assume you mean if she has them "left over"), they can't be upgraded at all.

If they are 4 single day passes she could assign them all to one person and make 4 days worth of FP's. Then buy 4 day tickets for everyone else in advance.

Now if these are 1 day left on multiple tickets originally used by others, then that won't work.

If they're just stand alone one day tickets ( like part of a package that weren't used) I've been told that you can upgrade them by calling. I didn't ask about other situations, so I can't speak to those.

Nope.
Upgrades of tickets already owned must be done in-person at WDW.

It would be unwise, financially, for one person to use 4 individual tickets on one trip.
The cost would be the equivalent of paying an extra $100 for a 4-day ticket, and then, paying additional hundreds of dollars too much if the guest needed to upgrade by adding more days.

They are 4 single day tickets. Can she upgrade them at Guest Services for hard tickets or vouchers to be used on a future trip?

How did she end up with extra single-day tickets? Certain types of tickets cannot be upgraded.

Getting a hard ticket is not an "upgrade." She should be able to get hard tickets at guest services.

I'm sorry, let me clarify. She has 4 one day hard tickets. (She purchased a package and that was the minimum to get the package.) She would like to upgrade them to multi-day tickets. She was hoping to do that in advance or over the phone to take advantage of the 60 day fast pass window. If that's not possible, can she upgrade at Guest Services, but get multi-day hard tickets or AP vouchers to be used on a future trip. (Not linked to her MDE and activated immediately that day) Thanks.

You can only book Fastpasses for the number of days on your ticket. You have to upgrade a ticket in person.

Your friend will only be able to pre-book FP for 1 day until she goes to the park and upgrades the tickets.

Yes, I understand. She will have to buy new tickets to link to her MDE to get fast passes. When she gets to WDW, what can she do with those one day tickets besides use them for one day?

Have your friend call first to make sure she can trade her single day tickets in for a multiday pass. If so, your friend should buy her multiday passes now so that she can get her FP+ all set. Once she is at the park, she can trade in the single tickets for other passes that can be used in the future. Tickets aren't activated until they are first used. If the single day tickets can't be traded in, she should use them for this trip and buy a multiday pass for the remainder of her trip and then link all of them to her MDE account.

Thank you. When she is at the parks, do they still give a hard ticket for future use? I thought they immediately put them on MDE.

You can request that a ticket be removed from a band and placed on physical ticket stock. You shouldn't have any problem getting a physical ticket, but it doesn't sound like you really need to do that.

Since these tickets were part of a package, she will be able to upgrade them when she gets onsite. She cannot upgrade them in advance. She will not be able to apply their value to any other charges. And, she will only be able to apply the value of one ticket to each upgraded ticket (she can't apply the value of four tickets to one new ticket). To get the full gate price applied to the upgraded ticket, she needs to use the ticket to enter the park first, and then go to guest services to upgrade. If she upgrades outside the gate, she will only receive credit for the discounted price that the "packages" division paid the "ticketing" division at Disney.

Okay, but let's say she bought multi-day passes now to in order to book FP+ in advanced. Then she goes to a park and enters with her one-day pass so that she can get full gate price. She upgrades the one-day to a multi-day. But now she's used the first day of the new multi-day so those will expire so they will need to be used first. Then I assume that she can use the old (bought in advance) multi-day ticket at a later date? Will she have to deactivate the old multi-day in MDE so it isn't used? And will her FP+ stay because all tickets are linked in MDE?

I don't know the OP but I'm always fascinated by the intricate ticketing system. Very confusing!

Will this work smoothly?
1. Order new multi-day tickets.
2. Link the new tickets to the magic bands and My Disney Experience.
3. Book the fastpasses.
4. Get there.
5. Link the 1 day tickets to the magic bands.
6. Prioritize the 1 day tickets to be used first.
7. Enter the park.
8. Do the rides, etc. that need to be rope dropped.
9. Upgrade the 1 day tickets to cover the whole vacation.
10. Verify via receipts that the price to upgrade was correct*.
11. Separate the specially bought multi day tickets from the magic bands onto ticket cards.

* Difference between price of 1 day ticket and price of desired multi-day ticket as published in current brochure.

So you are saying buy multi day tickets to book your fast passes.
Use the one day tickets to get in the park. Upgrade them to multi tickets to cover your vacation. Save the first set of multi tickets for your next vacation. Yes this will work. Make sure you go to guest services to prioritize the tickets.

Now we're getting somewhere... I knew all of you would know the possibilities. (I have been buying PAPs/DVC PAPs for so long, I didn't know what to tell her.) Thanks for all the replies so far.
