Here is a question that I am hoping some fellow DISers out there can help me with:

My In-laws have surprised us with an "impromptu" visit to their new house in Florida next week. They were/are generous enough to buy my family (DH, DS3, DS7 and myself) airline tickets to see them over April Vacation. While I have a great relationship with my inlaws and DH has been working his tail off and is in need of a little vaca, I am in a dilema!! :rolleyes1

:smooth: Here is the scoop: DIL's are about 2 hours from everywhere! They are located in Lake Placid, Florida, Just outside Sebring. They are roughly 2 hours in any direction from anything!! 2 hrs south of Orlando, 2 hours Southwest of Tampa, 1 hour 45 minutes from Ft Myers and the East Coast. About 2 + hours from Miami/Homestead. They are in a golf community and have not yet got their pool put in. DSs are 3 and 7 and very active - your typical kids. While I am understanding that DH would love to play some golf and relax, what can I do? I have no problem striking off with the boys for a few hours, but can anyone out there tell me of some things that would be fun to do in that area? And that isnt really far away? We will be there for 7 days. I know DILs have a few things planned, but I am looking for some input so we might come up with some things to do as well!

Thanks so much! :listen:

My uncle lives in Lake Placid and we have visited him for many years. It is known as the town of murals because there are murals on many of the walls of the buildings. There are many lakes in this area so it you like fishing or boating it is great. There are a lot of retirees in this area and it is very quiet at night. Cypress Gardens is about 1 hour away. Fort Myers is probably about 1 and 1/2 hours. We loved the Edison house there. Near FT Myers beach on the west coast also is the Corkscrew Swamp Santuary which is very cool for kids and adults. You will also be about 90 minutes from Ft Pierce on the East coast. And of course a day trip to Disney is possible. The city of Sebring is pretty nice to visit. But there isn't a lot of excitement in this area, and my kids tended to get bored sometimes. Nancy

Thanks so much for the reply. My in-laws just bought their house their last year and do not yet have a pool in. This will be our first visit, so I am not sure what to expect. I know if the pool was in, the boys would be happy swimming all day! With an active 3 and 7 year old, I hope to find some things to keep them busy and out of each others hair!!?? Thanks so much, Nancy. :sunny:
