Any suggestions of what to do for our departure day? We are staying at Contemporary with two teenagers and have breakfast ADR at Chef Mickeys. Our flight is out of MCO but not until around 6:30pm.

  1. Will the hotel store our bags?
  2. Can we still use the pool post check out?
  3. Any suggestions of what to do? All I can think of is resort hop and explore Grand Floridian and Polynesian.

How about taking the boat to Fort Wilderness and exploring the Tri-Circle-D Ranch?
Bus over to DHS and take the Skyliner to POP/AoA and check out those to resorts. Great theming.

Thanks. Never heard of Tri-Circle-D Ranch. Will check it out.

We stayed at AoA for our first (and only other) WDW trip. Loved it. SO cute.
Ironically we were supposed to stay at POP in 2020 and never made it...so that's an idea.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. I'd strongly suggest booking the room for the evening of departure. You'll be able to stay in the room all day, and just leave/check-out when you're ready to depart for home.

On the way to breakfast you can drop off with bell services to hold. Make sure to hold back a bag with everyone’s swim suits. After breakfast maybe rent a pontoon boat to take out on the lagoon. Then hit the pool. If there’s time have a snack or late lunch at Poly or GF before getting bags and heading out to airport. Have a great trip!

Check your bags with bell services. Then go enjoy a nice lunch at Disney Springs.

If our flight arrives on time (which you never know with today's airport issues), our plan is to go swimming and hit Disney Springs on arrival day. But definitely an option if we don't make it to Disney Springs. DH is really eager to go there. Kids, not so much (esp DS who looks at it as a day of shopping).

2 teens are probably happy with the pool time. After a few days of parks it will feel nice to relax in the pool all afternoon. Do an early dinner before going to the airport.

Understood.

For kids, the balloon ride and “amphibious car” ride might persuade them it’s a lot more than a boring shopping trip.

When I was a kid in the 70s, our departure day always meant a visit to Lake Buena Vista for shopping.

As an adult, I do a park day. I check out and drop my bags with bell services before heading to MK.

My son likes to swim. So we compromise and hit MK in the morning, do our favorite things one last time, then swim.

There's also something like mini golf. Maybe take a bus to HS and hop on the Skyliner to Epcot. Walk over to mini golf and then have lunch at Beaches and Cream.

Can you switch your ADR to lunch? I would take full advantage of the room until 11AM, then drop bags with bell services, go to lunch, and spend the rest of the afternoon at the pool.

Staying at Contemporary and booked Chef Mickeys. This was our departure breakfast last time too, so feels like a tradition and wanted to end our trip with it. Unfortunately Check Mickey's doesn't do lunch (and can't move to early dinner as it sells out very quickly).

Teenager here! I love doing the monorail loop and going to the Poly for Dole Whips. GF is meh to me, but Dole Whips are a must.

Also, look into going to one of the mini golf courses. We usually drive to them, so I'm not sure if there is bus transportation, but they are a lot of fun. I feel like mini golf is pretty classic, and takes up a decent amount of time.

It depends on your kids, but I still find looking for hidden mickeys to be a lot of fun, and an easy way to pass time. I know most of the MK resorts will give you a printout, so you do not need to buy the book.

The arcades in the hotels are also pretty nice. I know it is not everyone's ideal thing to do while at WDW, but there are usually air hockey tables, and they are always very air-conditioned.

Many great suggestions -

If your flight is at 6:30pm, are you driving to the airport? Getting picked up? What time is breakfast?

If you are not spending some time by the Contemporary pool or take monorail to Poly - you might not have too much time to wander off.

Have a great time whatever you choose!!

Haven't worked out details but most likely just uber to the airport.
ADR is at 8:30am....so nice and early with time to pack up and check out. (Afterwards, I regretted not making it a bit later as we have all day and no rush- but Chef MIickey's books up so can't change now).

Our kids love swimming so definitely hanging out is a good option. Good to hear that we can still use the pool after check out. Also like the idea of taking the resort monorail. This trip is a special celebration for DD who turned 13 and she was debating between Grand Floridian and Contemporary so fun to check out the other. And of course, who can say no to one last Dole Whip. Didn't realize you can get that at Polynesian!

If you get the the end of your trip and realize there were park things you missed out or want to revisit on it’s easy and relatively inexpensive to add on a park day. We do this all the time. You don’t have to pay for a one day ticket at full price. You can just add onto your existing ticket and pay the difference. It’s usually only $20-30 each for us to tack on an extra day to burn a few more hours in the park to hit a couple more rides and do some shopping. It always feels more relaxed and lower stakes to just be a bonus afternoon in the park.

So if you have 5 day tickets, just see what a 6 day ticket costs and figure out the difference. That’s all you’ll need to pay.

That is around the time our flights usually are. If we are at an MK resort we would give our bags to bell services in the morning and head out to MK until it was time to leave. EPCOT area resort- EPCOT or DHS until time to leave. DH gets stressed out if we have to rely on Disney transportation to get back to a resort to get our bags and our ride to the airport, so he likes to head places that are easy to get back to the resort. That bonus park time is always nice- we pick up things we missed or redo favorites. My family doesn't like to go to the pool, because they don't like not having a room to shower and clean up in before leaving.

Really? You can do this? This would be a very good option for MK since it's in walking distance.

A few questions:
  1. Do we need to add an additional park day now? Or it can be done at the time when we are there? We have just paid off our reservation.
  2. It's just a straight difference of 7 park day minus 6 park day? If so, it's only $53 difference if I calculated right.
  3. It doesn't matter if we have a package (i.e. resort + tickets + Genie+ - bought in advance when we were able to)
P.S. - We are flying back to Canada so need to see when we would need to return to the airport. Probably around 3pm for a 6:30pm flight?
