After seeing the amazing collections of Leslie and Peggie yesterday, I have been brainstorming about what to collect.

For instance, I have two of the "100 years of Magic" Toyko pins....shall I try to collect them all? They are awfully nice looking....

Or....should I pick one movie (there are so many I like!) and try to collect as much from the movie as possible?

It's hard to know where to begin. Does anyone have any good advice/suggestions/stories on how they started to get organized?

Feel free to look at my "owns" list on pinpics (3kids4me) if it helps....I need someone objective to see if any themes are jumping out.

Thanks!!

I know what you mean Sharon. I started in so many different directions that I would have tried to cover to many topics. I decided to try and collect Walt pins, Movie Poster Pins and Mystery Pins. I am going to TRY and stick to those types and categories. I have a few pins that I started with from previous trips that are sentimental.

I look forward to meeting you on 04/13.

I think we all have run into the same problem.....starting out with just buying/trading for pins that struck our fancy......then you start looking at the collection.......and think.....GEE......what am I doing??????

The Ray and my DS had it right from the start.......The Ray collects GOOFY and pins that have to do with Walt. DS collects Pluto, his favorite rides, and anything with a dinosaur!

I had to do some rethinking for me tho......We were in WDW 2x in 2000 so I wanted to collect almost ALL the ones released in 2000.
But where to go from there? Then they had to start selling pins at TDS and really thru me for a loop! So I came up with this....(obviously subject to change at any given moment!!!!)

Trying to stick with WDW oins since that is my favorite place in the world. Collecting the POM from 2001 and 2002. Then I thought....hmmmmm what about the holiday pins? or should I do event pins from each year?
Okay.....so as I am typing this I realize I am NO help to you, as sit in the situation as you do! :D
But I did figure out with to do about TDS .......ALL Poohs, Snow White, Posters, and for 2002 the calendars....
I do have a collection of the characters from the Animated movies......like I have all the characters from Pinoc., all from Little Mermaid.....my plan was to frame the poster with the pins of the characters.....
Now about your collection.......
I saw lots of kitty cats, characters from Animated movies and TInkerbells........This is just, of course, what I saw......I would love to hear others views on this too!

Well for me this was easy. I have been a Villain fan for a long time and that is what got me in to this hobby. (I wanted a Villains pin set and decided to make one with as many Villian character pins I could find.) So I collected Villains and Peter Pan to start off. That has since expanded to pins with the characters doing art (painting, drawing, etc.), WDW Artist Choice, B & W pins, Nightmare Before Christmas and characters pins.

There is also the occaisional pin that catches my eye like the MSEP spinner and the DL Goofy St. Patrick's Day pin that just have to be part of my collection.

I'll bring some of my collection on the 13th. See you then.

Dom - you, as well as others I have met at the CT pin meets, have an awesome collection! Have fun tomorrow in NYC. Can't wait until we meet on the 13th.

Dom,

I sent you a free lunch for tomorrow in care of Peggie. (Who said there was no such thing?) Enjoy!!

Deciding what type of pins to collect is hard. I started out just like everyone else... I had a little of this and that... Till I had a lot of this and that and not much of anyone type. So I narrowed down to what really caught my eye and I thought would be unique... I do Christmas Pins and Disneyana Convention pins... It has made my collectiong a lot more fun and less expensive as well...
