Planning a trip for Jan 2008 (Me, DW, DS8, DD6, and DDalmost4). What do you think we need to bring with respect to clothes? I don't want to pack the entire house up since we will have a washer and dryer but I also don't want to have to buy new wardrobes if we plan incorrectly (ie colder/warmer than we had planned). Thanks.

I hate to say this, but it could be hot, it could be cold. It'll probably be both. The weather from December - Feb in Orlando is all over the place.

Do bring a sweatshirt!..and a bathing suit.

We've been in January, and there's almost always been frost warnings at night, no wonder the citrus industry in Florida went downhill!

Either plan on layering clothes or buying gloves/hats/scarves/etc when you arrive if you need them. I've been in Jan with 80's and 30's. Just depends.

Basically what the others said. We were there in Jan 06 and the beginning of our trip was cold. We were at the tail end of a cold snap. But by the middle to end of the week we were in the low 80's. I know what you mean by packing the whole house, but take a look at the weather forecast before you go and hopefully you can avoid the heavier items. I'm hoping for warmer temps come January...I'll be right there with ya!

We love January, but as the others have said, the weather is rather unpredicatble. We bring at least one hot weather outfit per person, a couple of transition season things, and we always pack a pair of gloves each, and a scarf or hat. We wear our Disney leather jackets, because it is nice to have them when we get off the plane coming back home to Minnesota, and they often come in handy for chilly nights at Illuminations etc. Both the coldest and one of the hotest days we have had at Disney were in January. One January day there it hit 100, and we also had a day where the high was 50. BIG difference there, so plan on layering if you need to.

We went in Jan 05, I had to buy Disney hooded sweatshirts in the gift shop:headache: not cheap! I wore it everyday! We were having warm weather here, then a cold front moved it. Scarf, gloves the works. :confused3

January is our favorite time to go, but like the above posters remarked, it's a crap shoot with regards to the weather.

One January there was frost all around the hotel.

Another January it was so cold, we had to buy the pocket warmer packets at an AK store.

Last January it was 80 degrees.:confused3

We honeymooned at WDW January 1994 (omg that seems so long ago when you write it out!) and we wore shorts, long sleeved shirts and sweatshirts in the evenings. It was perfect. My sister was there the week after and froze her little pattootie off!:scared1:

Enjoy your trip!

I think what you bring depends on where you are from and what kind of cold you are used to. I know up here, we are wearing shorts until it hits about 40's in the fall. Then it's a light sweatshirt til it really snows hard. I wore just a sweatshirt to work all the time last year and it wold be -20 on my way in.

If you are used to cold, then I would bring a sweatshirt, I bring gloves cuz my hands are always cold (even in the summer), and maybe a hat but not a neccessity. I plan on wearing Jeans each day and a t-shirt. I will have a sweatshirt at the hotel but probably won't bring it into the park unless I know we will be there late or the weather is extremely cold out in the morning.

Oh, I wish I could do that. DH wears shorts that long but it needs to be at least 75 before I put them on and I've lived in PA all my life! I just think I was made to live in a warmer climate.:)

I think the last couple times we were in Disney (Jan/Dec) DH has worn shorts, even when it got down to 40.

We love going in Jan, it is true you hav eto come prepared for everything. We still try to pack as light as possible as the washer/dryer comes in very handy.

2 pants
2 shorts
4 shirts
1 sweater
1 spring jacket (water repellent)

I know the above doesnt sound like a wide variety of clothes but it works.

you can always layer the shirt, sweater & jacket if needed. (we havent had to do that in three years)

On our December trip, we wore t-shirts or polos and tied a long sleeve T or a sweatshirt around our waists during the day. In the evening, if we got chilly, we just threw the other shirt on over the t-shirt. This worked well, and prevented having to carry a jacket, or mess with a locker.
