What Time is the 4 o'clock Rain? -- Updates 11/2-4 -- Tim's surprise and Marco&Recap

Ahh, man! I hate that your meal (and server) at Ohana weren't very good. We've always enjoyed our meals there. Even picky-eater Hunter likes the meat. Bummer that it turned you off from going there again. But, thank goodness there are so many other restaurants to dine in at Disney.:thumbsup2

Awww..thanks Kathy. It was so great to meet you and Mark!

Thanks, Suzi.

Bradey lost his tooth later that evening as we were getting ready for bed :)

Sorry...old age and my memory do not get along.

Sorry O'Hana wasn't up to par. I have never tried it, even though we have now stayed at the Poly twice. Just isn't my thing. I love Kona and Captain Cooks and they are both much cheaper...so why bother. Although I would love to try that bread pudding ::yes::

Yes, for as expensive as it was, it was definitely not worth it. I think we will try Kona one of these trips for dinner.

I love pina coladas and could use one right now. My DGD is in the ER and I am still waiting to hear how she is beyond they put an IV in because she was very dehydrated and were waiting on test results.

Did they find out what is wrong with your granddaughter? I hope she is getting better.

I wanted to try Ohana but decided to skip it as I could only get a late ADR the one day. Think I'm glad I didn't jump on it now. Heard a lot of not so great things about dinner there. I did like Mark's shirt. I have quite a few Grumpy ones myself.

I would not recommend it, but I know others love it.

Mark has a drawer in his chest of drawers that is just Grumpy shirts. :)

That just seems wrong :( Hope things work out ok for him.

Thank you

Thanks :goodvibes

My pleasure.

I like the way they do that though. I don't think they'd do the same in Paris :confused3

It's very rare that we don't have a helpful CM at DW.

The rain stopped for a short while before the parade and they said once it stops at all the parade will come out so it did and the minute it started so did the monsoon. It made it more fun though and alot less crowded. The characters got soaked though:

Wow!

I am sorry you didn't like Ohana. We ate there a couple of years ago and really liked it. Could have been that pineapple drink I had which was super strong Anyway we have it planned again in Dec and hope it doesn't disappoint. Someday I want to stay at the Poly. Maybe if Andy and I ever go without the kids and grandkids!

I almost tried that pineapple drink but passed it up. Perhaps that would have helped my meal. ;)

We did the Poly when the kids were younger and then for Andy's high school graduation trip. I fear how it is going to look/feel after they starting making DVC there.

Oooohhhh, first time ADR? Those are always exciting. I actually don't recall ever eating at Ohana for dinner. My Mom insists we did back in the day when it was called something else, but you know....if I don't remember, we'll just say it didn't happen. :lmao:

Hey, if I don't remember, it didn't happen either!

Very busy DISmeet day indeed. I do hope you can do all of yours in December! We're going in January, May, and hopefully November next year, so I'm hoping I'll get some good DISmeet time. :thumbsup2 I KNOW for sure Mary Ellen is overlapping with me in May, so that will be FUN!

When in May are you going? I have a feeling we don't overlap because I know we don't overlap with Mary Ellen this time.

sorry you didn't get good service or enjoy all of your dinner at Ohana...we tried it in 2011 and didn't really care for it either!

you were just the DISMeet queen on this trip!

I'm glad we tried it, but we won't be going back. There are still many restaurants we've not tried and I've already got two new ones on my mind for next year at least. We had a couple of meets...and they were fun. I've lost count of how many we are going to try to fit in during our trip in December besides you and goofy4prez.

Sorry you were disappointed with Ohana. We went again this year (as you will soon see coming up on the boys' trip) and I keep hoping it will be as good as it was the first time we were there. And I keep being disappointed. :sad2: I still like the wings and the potstickers, but like you, very disappointed with the beef (ours was too rare) and the pork and chicken were not as good as they had been in the past. You can't go wrong with the shrimp. But I did still very much LOVE the desert!!

Mark REALLY loved his dessert, but he can get good Banana Bread Pudding at Raglan Road if he really wants it.

Love the Poly! Scared of the mess and chaos it will become when they start remodeling the GCH. And I just know the fabulous smell will not be the same.

I'm afraid of what they are going to do to it too. I wish we could afford it one more time before they start messing with it.

Sorry to hear about your first time visit to Ohana; I couldn't agree with you more. Our first time there we thought the place was fantastic; We had excellent service and the meats were very good. The second time we were there the food was good, but not as good as the first time and the service was very slow. Then the third and last time we were there the meat was tough, dry, and overall poor; and the service was atrocious. We had to beg for beverage refills and it was almost impossible to get them to bring us more food offerings. I don't think we will be back anytime soon to Ohana. :)

We won't be back either...just too many places we have yet to try. It's funny how it can be great your first visit and then continue to go down. Do you think they change chefs or are using cheaper meat?

Yay for another DIS meet! Bradley is adorable!

Isn't he? He was very shy, but very cute.

Sorry you didn't love Ohana. The last time I ate there was in 2010 and I knew after that meal I wouldn't be back for awhile. The pace of the meal is just too slow and by the time they get to the shrimp (the last thing to come around) I am too full to really enjoy. I would be happy if they gave me - salad, wings, noodles, veggies, and shrimp. All at ONCE! :rotfl: The wings used to be excellent. I hate how they want you to fill up on all the appetizer things first and I fall right into that.

It really was a huge disappointment after all the hype we had read about it. I'll stick to our places in Chicago for the all you can eat meat!

You did a great job with the shrimp! Way to go!

Thanks; I didn't want to let the guys down.

Trying to get all caught up before I fall even further behind! :scared:

Is that possible?

I love AK, and Tusker House breakfast is one of my favorites! I think they have a really good buffet, and I also enjoy the characters there, especially one in particular! :thumbsup2

The buffet is good and so are the characters; I just wish they would improve their service record.

You got some great animal pics on the Safari and most of them weren't even animal butt shots!!! :goodvibes

I tried really hard to avoid those butt shots this time.

A Mr. Not So Devine??? That is a new one on me, and a really great catch on your part!!! ::yes::

I had to do a doubletake to see if I was seeing things.

Another fine collection of some new hats, and I loved the Mark/Sully one, and you looked so cute with the giraffe one.......a perfect choice for you! :cool1:

Thanks; they had a great selection at AK.

Sorry you didn't really enjoy the food at O'hana. I love breakfast there and still trying to make it for dinner sometime. I guess at least in your case, the food porn looked better than the actual food turned out to be. :(

Well, as you know, becasue of my dislike of a certain character at breakfast, we won't be going there for that meal. But then I don't eat scrambled eggs or sausage so that kind of limits what I could eat; that's why I prefer buffets.

And how great you got in a couple of DISmeets! You can always meet the most wonderful people when meeting up with DISers!! Maybe one day we will be there together and get to officially meet......... :)

Yes you can; and we had one more DIS meet coming up as well as a "return" DIS meet.

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
First Sci Fi then Ohana?!?!?! this just makes me so angry!!!! these were the best services we have ever had! i'm about to call them and ask if they KNEW THE FAMOUS KATMAK was in???
i don't get it... :sad2:

Did you forget to call? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

everyone is correct his name is "Bamboo" which is a rather boring name...

It is a boring name, but I thought he was pretty cool.

As much love as Ohana gets, I always question whether we would really enjoy it. We haven't eaten there and part of it is because my wife doesn't even want to try it. I'd like to at least give it a try, but we just aren't big fans of the south Pacific flavors. Or shrimp. So really other than endless supplies of meat that we may or may not like the seasoning of, there just isn't a lot to pull us in. :confused3

I prefer to get my fill of all the meat I can eat at Whispering Canyon. But we all know how much you love that place. :rotfl::rotfl2:

I'm sorry your service was less than impressive though. I know I certainly don't see many complaints about this place.

I prefer to get my fill of all the meat I can eat at Whispering Canyon. But we all know how much you love that place. :rotfl::rotfl2:

I will give you a direct quote of my DW (and I do mean darling) on Whispering Canyon... huummmm hummm and I quote 'I rather piss glass than eat at Whispering Canyon again.' :rotfl2::rotfl2:

(I think she said that in reference to eating at Hollywood & Vine too) :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Wow... that bad, huh? :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

I do agree with that opinion about H&V though. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

The picture looked like the one animal had his head up the other's...well, you know.

Oh...I see now. ;)

I'm one of those who doesn't really "get" Devine, so the fact that there's a male version now just further vexes me.:confused3 :rotfl:

Trees...shrub...Devine. What don't you get? :lmao::lmao:

Gorgeous pics of the Poly! It is such a beautiful resort, but I agree with you that the price tag is a bit hard to swallow! I'm sorry that you didn't have a better experience at 'Ohana. We have only ever gone for breakfast and the food has always been good, and as far as I can remember, we've usually had pretty good service as well. Maybe one trip in the future you could give breakfast a shot?

I really wish that price tag would come down, but now with the new DVC being put there, I doubt that will ever happen. Unfortunately, I don't like family style, and I don't like scrambled eggs or sausage, so breakfast probably won't ever happen. And I'm not a fan of :stitch: :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Animal Kingdom is just so beautiful. I take more pictures there than at any other park, I love it. :goodvibes

It really is a beautiful park, and we find ourselves staying longer and longer each trip.

I really want to try Ohana, it has always been difficult for me to get a reservation there...I must try the pina colada and that dessert, oh my!! Yum!

We'd go for just the pot stickers, shrimp and pina colada; oh, and dessert for Mark, of course. :rotfl:

Hope your brother is doing well and things are going in a positive direction for Mark.

He's feeling pretty good and adjusting to the medicines. Mark is going to work every day which is a chore in itself with the way things are. We are just waiting to see what happens at the end of the year.

We love walking into the Poly... it brings us back to our honeymoon in Hawaii. When we got home from our honeymoon we said we were going back to Hawaii for our 10 yr anniversary which is next September . 3 kids later, 2 being under 3, that isn't happening. Where could we go that is like Hawaii without actually being in Hawaii? Hummm.... the POLY?!?!?! I've been stalking the Poly thread on the resorts board for a month trying to find out every detail of the construction and where they plan to be at the end of SEPT. next year... our anniversary is on the 24th... remember? Will the Poly be an absolute mess? Will I want to be paying premium prices to stay at a resort that is going through a major overhaul? Only time will tell. Maybe I need to start a PTR to get all these feelings off my chest. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

We honeymooned in Hawaii too. I would love to go back and Mark's (Captain_Oblivious) pictures sure make me want to, but I don't know that I could handle the flight. So will you take the kids or just the two of you. Yes, I remember; and if you go next year for your anniversary at that time, we will miss you again.

I'm so sorry you had bad service at Ohana. We had bad service once but all the other times we never waited for anything there. I've even felt too rushed there before. As far as the food goes, yes it has gotten worse. The first few times we went there it was amazing. But over the last few years they have tweaked the menu and how the food is prepared. The noodles are different, the sauces are different, the broccoli is now like a stir fry. If I get meat that is over cooked, I put it to the side and get more. Usually it is never undercooked for me. (I'll eat it practically mooing) I still love the apps, shrimp, and the bread pudding is DA BOMB!

I was so hoping to love it. My husband will not eat anything that has "red" in the middle.

Impressive shrimp peel pile. However you have a ways to go young padawan. :yoda:

Hey, it was my first time...I thought I did pretty good. Next time I'll have to try at Cape May Cafe if we ever go back there (yet another disappointment)

More DISmeets huh? that's nice! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::rotfl2:

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Yes, another DISmeet. I'm still waiting for ours.

The lobby of the Poly is so beautiful. Really love to spend time there.

It truly is Karin; it just makes you relax and unwind.

Sorry about the service at Ohana. It seems to get worse every time I read a review. We have not been in a few years, after we had bad service and really mediocre food one time. :confused3

Sorry you had a bad experience too; it was very disappointing.

Because of my advancing age, I need to comment on what I've read so far before I read the latest. :rotfl: Great Dis Meet at Tusker House. Tell Mark that John can probably keep up with him at a breakfast buffet. He loves 'em!

When you reach my age, we'll talk. :lmao: We had a lot of fun meeting Brenda and Em. I think they should charge the guys more for the buffets. :rotfl::rotfl:

You got a lot of nice pictures on the two week safari. Am I remembering correctly that there was a baby giraffe in one of the pics? See, I told ya that I'm getting old.:p

Yes there was and he/she was so cute.

Oooh, there's a bamboo vine guy? I didn't know that! Cool!

You know now. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Like I said before, I'm glad we tried it, but we won't be back for a very long time. As you said, there are so many other restaurants to dine at...and ones we love, and ones we still want to try.

I have to say I didn't really notice the flavors all of that much.

Yes we do! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Most reviews I've read of it rave about it. :confused3

I couldn't agree with her more. :thumbsup2

DITTO; that place is just as bad if not worse.

Wow... that bad, huh? :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

I'll have you both know that Mark and I have an ADR for Whispering Canyon in December. We are having breakfast there after reading some very good reviews. Plus I want to see the Christmas decorations.

Caught up... at least for the minute. I read it in a couple segments. I probably should have commented in between as I forget what I was going to say.
Well, I remember this,
love your safari pictures. I hate that the lion is always sleeping. Love your Rhino pics. I never seem to get those.

Oh, what I meant by my comment on Em's TR is that I hadn't seen it, but must go find it. Which I did, but am wayyy behind in that too.

Love your dismeets.

We weren't thrilled with Ohana either. I'll be curious to see your review next time with your Whispering Canyon ADR. We keep trying to get there, but keep canceling for one reason or another. I am very curious as too how the surrounding noise is if you happen to notice while you are there, would love to hear your thoughts.

I love all the pictures of you & Mark together. How awesome you are obviously best friends. :goodvibes

:wave2:; glad you are caught up. Thanks; I was very pleased with my safari pictures this trip. We had great Dismeets...always fun to meet my friends from her eon the DIS.

We did Whispering Canyon for dinner in 2008 and will never go back. The food was awful, the service worse, and there was none of the antics they talked about (and we were in the back room and would have heard if there was). I've seen great reviews of breakfast so we will give it a try.

Yes, Mark truly is my best friend. :lovestruc

In my attempt to get caught up I've missed a lot of chatter so don't know the scoop with what is going on with Mark's job but just know that you guys are in my thoughts and prayers. It is so stressful being in those kind of situations.

LOVE the pictures of you guys with Brenda and Em! So cute.

There is a billion things I wanted to comment on but I was so far behind...I can't even recall! :( Hopefully I can stay caught up now.

Let's wrap up Monday, shall we?

This will be a picture heavy update as there isn't a whole lot to say about it. :lmao::lmao:

The original plan had been to have dinner at Ohana an then stick around the Poly for Wishes and the water parade. However, we finished dinner earlier than I thought we would and we really didn't want to stick it out for a couple of hours yet (we will end up regretting this later in the trip).

So what should we do instead? Go to a park? Go back to the resort and swim? Go to sleep so we'd be refreshed for the next day?

Nope...none of the above. Instead, we decided to go here:

We had not been miniature golfing since 2008 when we went with our friends Shelley and Tom for our 25th wedding anniversary...so five years ago.

When did the prices get so outrageous for mini golf?

We had about a fifteen minute wait to let the groups in front of us get a little further and then we were off. I won't post all 100 pictures I took, but will give you some of the holes we liked the best.

I have to say that after about the 7th hole, we had a group in front of us that were reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slow. They were terrible and would take more than the six strokes each and it was very frustrating. They finally decided to let us go ahead of them thank you very much.

After our mini golf was over, we hopped back in the car and drove back to OKW. Since I hadn't had dessert and didn't feel full from dinner, I decided I needed a treat. So Mark bought me a Mickey Ice Cream sandwich:

My treat eaten, we headed back to the room. We got out our clothes for the next day, Mark watched some baseball game on the tube and I downloaded my pictures for the day.

Up next, a full day at Epcot and two more wonderful ADR's and a DIS meet

Glad you enjoyed 'Ohanas - they sell those cute glasses in the Poly gift shop by the way (or at least they did last time we were there) I have one on my desk at work that's full of candy :)
We always try and get in a round of mini-golf if we can - lots of fun!

Ohana's was just okay...loved the appy's, but not the meat. I love Disney's golf courses and how they are themed. I really need to get the girls there on our June trip.

I'll fill you in on Mark when we meet. And I am so excited we are getting together for lunch in a couple weeks.:goodvibes

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Brenda and Em...lovely ladies.

Ahhh Pina Coladas are my go-to drink at 'Ohana. Obviously you didn't have enough of those to improve your impression of the meal!! :rotfl2: With another 2 or 3 you may have had a different opinion.

That CM who took your exiting 'Ohana photo didn't like Marks hat or the top of your head - seeing as how they cut them off. ;)

Yay! Another Dismeet! :)

Very "cool" theming with mini golf. You mean you can get the ball in the hole with less than 6 strokes?? I'd be with the slow group in front since I'm sure it takes me about 10 tries to get the ball in but then cheats just to end the misery. :p

A Mickey bar is a nice way to end your day!

It's taken me a few days but I am finally caught up Kathy. I hope I remember everything I wanted comment on (I'm sure I wont though!)

First that rain. Oh My Goodness!! I actually do remember watching the news about the torrential rains in Orlando and thinking of you at the time. But seeing your pictures really shows! We had rain like that last June. Definitely makes for shorter lines in the parks. All that soggy shoe talk got me thinking...the forecast for Orlando for our trip has a little rain every day....I'm thinking that I need to bring extra sneakers as I do hate soggy shoes!

Bummer that it washed out your evening though you did quite a bit despite the rain for sure!

Yay for a DisMeet! Looks like you had a great breakfast at Tusker House followed by a fun meet up!

Your safari pictures turned out really good too. BTW I have the V-neck version of that shirt -- I love it!!!

The tigger ears with the tail were just my fav Kathy. so cute!!! My goal for Animal Kingdom shopping is a pair of leopard print mouse ears. My boss has a pair in her office and I SO want to sneak them away and wear them!

I also never knew there was a Mr. DeVine. We finally saw DeVine this spring - amazing!

and another DisMeet at Poly! awesome! Too bad that your Ohana dinner was disappointing. I kept wondering where you could be eating at poly that you hadn't been to....I was thinking you were doing the Luau (which is fun). I've never been to ohana and have read so many poor and mixed reviews about cold food, slow servers, and dry food that it is not on my list at all. We've done Kona for breakfast and dinner and have enjoyed them both. Its turning into a "regular" for our trips, as we'll eat there on our last morning for our upcoming trip as well. Katie is dying to try the Tonga Toast!

Loved the mini golf pictures ....that's another activity we've never done. I just get so excited to be in the parks that I fail to leave time for other stuff. Maybe this trip.....:scratchin

I'm sure there were more things I wanted to comment on .... I love seeing all your photos and especially the hat pictures! but between reading at night, at work, at field hockey practice, etc. well, you get the idea:crazy2::crazy2:

Are you traveling out West? or is C traveling to your area? that will be a fun meet!

I have never done miniature golf in Disney. Of course it may be because I cheat and no one wants to play with me.

My granddaughter was admitted to the hospital but is home now. She had an almost completely blocked colon. It took several enemas and over a gallon of a laxative mix delivered through a nasogastric tube to get the impaction out. Now it's laxatives twice a day and a visit to a specialist to find the cause and how to fix it. She is doing much better though so I am a very happy grandmom today.

Mini golf!? Heck yeah! Never done Winter Summerland, only Fantasia Gardens. And it was so hot and sticky that I was miserable.

Ugh, slow people at mini golf just drive me crazy! At least they let you go ahead.

Not having dessert previously is as good a reason as any to get a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich....or feeling you need a second dessert too works. :lmao:
