I like my DS's (6 & 7) to be in bed for 7.30pm. But lately they haven't been sleeping till well after 8. Do you think 7.30pm is too early for them? I was thinking of letting them up till 8pm.

What time do your kids go to bed...(and to sleep...LOL) :flower:

Hmmm, I dont have kids but for most of my childhood I was in bed for 7.30

As I got a bit older (8 & 9) I was 'allowed' to read for 1/2 hour then my mum would come up again to tuck me in properly.

My daughters who will be 5 and 3 next month go to bed at 7pm. They're allowed up later on Saturdays.

My DS (3) is in bed at about 7.30pm DD (5) and DS (7) are in bed at 8.00pm. DS (7) usually reads for about half an hour before we turn the lights out and he goes to sleep. I think that at these ages lots of sleep is vital.

My DDs (6 & 9 yo) go to bed at 7pm. Lights are off by 8.30 but I encourage reading beforehand :)

Youngest DD is invariably fast asleep by 7.30 or so, but eldest reads until 8.30.

My DS (6) & DD (8) are in bed between 7.30 and 8.00 but they don't always fall asleep straight away. They are sometimes allowed to read. My eldest DS (12) goes to bed between 9.00 and 9.30.

troop have standard bed-time routine.
Bath by 6.45pm follow-up by hair drying; not my skill I hasten to add  and then storytime together till 7.30pm. DD(8) and DS(5) read until 7.45pm. DD (3) has a hot milk drink before going to bed at 8pm.

As they have started to join clubs - football training, Brownies, Anchor boys, drama group they are often quite worked up so sometimes are not sleeping until 8.30pm.

I feel like a 'bad mom' my son just never seems to need his sleep! I do get him into bed at 9 each school night (he'll be 10 next week) but he rarely drops off before 9:30 and thats after reading too! sometimes he's still tossing and turning until after 10 and he always gets up between 7 and 7:30 and always in a good mood, He seems to think this is a really early bedtime but judging by your other posts he's really late!

My youngest DD (5) goes to bed at 7.30, we read her a story and she's normally asleep by about 8.00 and awake again 6.30-7.00.

The eldest DD (11) goes to bed at 9.00 but she always reads, usually until 9.30-10.00, in fact sometimes I'm asleep before her! Have to admit though, it's a struggle to drag her out of bed at 7.00!

The 3 year old goes up for his bath at 6pm - is bathed, in bed and usually asleep by 6.30pm at the latest.

5 year old goes up at 6.30pm, but will read and isnt usually asleep much before 8pm...sometimes later! However, I feel she needs the downtime after a busy day at school and it does her good. Both me and DH go up and read to her around 7pm.

She is looking forward to some "late nights" on holiday though!

Youngest DD (very nearly 6) goes to bed at 7:30. She reads her school book to me and then I read a book to her then it’s lights out, usually between 8:00 and 8:10 and she’ll be asleep within 5 minutes.

Oldest DD (12) has just begun to have a later bedtime, she’s allowed to watch TV till 9:00 then she reads till 10:00 and then lights out but even then she’ll often be awake when I go up to bed at 11:00. She never has any problems getting up for school and still continues to do well at lessons so I guess she just doesn’t need as much sleep these days.

They are both allowed up later on a Saturday.

DS1 is always in bed at 7pm. I aim for 7pm with DS4 but it now seems to have moved to 7:30pm after story, cuddles. DD6 is in bed by 7:30pm but will read to herself till about 8pm then she turns the light off herself. i do bring bedtime back to 7pm for everyone when i can see the tired signs (tantrums and tears!)

My DD's 7 are in bed by 7.30 thats only in the past fews week been extended from 7.

It's very rare they are asleep before 9 though.

My DS(9) usually goes at about 8. He and DH are working their way through the latest Harry Potter so he usually has a chapter of that for around half an hour and then it's lights off. He's usually asleep by 9 :flower:

I am very strict on a school night - My sons 9 and 13 are in bed no later than 8.30 although they are allowed a video or story tape for about 15 mins. They think that I am too strict but school is too important for them not to get a good nights sleep, and eldest son leaves at 7.30 am for an hour journey to school - obviously school holidays we are more relaxed and don't send them to bed until it is obvious they are tired which is normall around 9 - 9.30 is! we are morning people always up early though!

My DS's are 8 and 10 and usually go to be at sometime between 8 and 9. It all depends on what they have on that night.

With cubs, karate and football there are some nights where their activities don't finish until 7.30pm.

My DS (8) and DD (7) go to bed at 8:30 - I read DS a page from his encyclopedia we have a chat then its lights out. I then go and read something to DD have another quick chat and lights out. They are both usually asleep by 9ish.

My younges son, who is almost 3, is usually in bed by 6.30. However, on a Friday and Saturday night we sometimes let him stay up a bit later in the hope he might sleep in :rotfl:

My daughters, 11 and 12, go to bed at 10 on school nights when they are with their gran (who they live with), which I think is far too late. On non-school nights, she pretty much lets them stay up as late as they like - again I don't think that's right.

When they are here, I am quite strict and they are usually in bed by 9 and can read till 9.30 but then they are on holiday when they come here. Once they come to live with us next year, they will be going to bed at 8.30 and reading till 9 on school nights and we might let them stay up till 9.30 at weekends/holidays.

I think it really depends on the child. My oldest has ADHD and so doesn't need much sleep. The drugs she takes mean she's tired during the day but, when they wear off in the evening, she's like a cheetah on speed and doesn't ever want to go to bed. However, she's a miserable git in the mornings if she goes to bed too late so I usually send her to bed even if she says she's not tired.

God, I'm an evil mother :rotfl2:

mt twi ( 7 & 4 ) go up anywhere between 7pm and 7.30pm depending on how tired they are etc.

On school nights Lucy(4) goes to bed around 7. I read her a story and she will look at a book and then she goes to sleep, normally by 7:30. On fridays she sleeps at Nana and Grandads. Saturdays she goes to bed after the first X factor as we like to watch this together and gets to watch her tv for Half and hour.
