When the park gives an opening time, say 9am, is that when the gates open or the rides start? Could we get breakfast before that at say the Blue Ribbon Bakery, and still be in line for Nemo at 9?

In my experience (which is mostly in the off season when the park opens at 10:00), if it's not a MM day they open the gates at 9:30 and let you onto Main Street only (so yes you could go to Blue Ribbon bakery). The rope drop is at 10:00 when you can get to the rest of the park. If it's a MM day (again in my experience), they don't let you in until the park officially opens.

Every time that I have been, both in the off season, spring break, and summer months, I have always had to wait at the gates. I have never been allowed to go onto Main Street early... though I have heard of this happening. I'm just hoping I can experience this sometime.

That's interesting -- I thought it had to do with the opening times, but if you have been in the off season and have not experienced that, I wonder what the difference is? :confused3

Here's a short segment from my Magic Morning super thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1675403
Is there rope drop on MM days?
On days where official park opening is 8AM, MM would be 7AM. There is no rope drop at 7, but there is a rope drop at 8 at the entrance to Frontierland and Adventureland. Also nobody is let into the park until 7AM. Non-MM guests might be allowed in any time between 7:30 and 8AM.

On days where official park opening is 10AM, MM would be 9AM. I believe that there is a rope drop at 9 at Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Then another at 10AM for Adventureland and Frontierland. Nobody is let into the park until 9AM. Non-MM guests might be allowed in any time between 9:30 and 10AM.

On days where official park opening is anything else, opening procedures may change depending on crowd size.

Those are for MM days. Non MM days there is no rope drop if the park opens at 8 and there is a rope drop if the park opens at 10. So to answer your question about grabbing breakfast, the answer is probably not, but maybe if there are really large crowds.

Just to toss in another wrinkle. Sometimes there is a rope drop but the stores on Main Street are closed. That was the case this summer during non MM days. We were let through the gates about 10 min to 8 and the stores were closed. Last summer there was no rope drop.

We usually go in the off season. And we have seen both. The does not seem to be a consistant tie as to when they do or don;t let you in early. If it is a MM and you do not use your MM, they will let you onto Mainstreet and some stores are open. A CM is at the rope letting in folks with a MM

We were there for a week two weeks ago. Out of the 4 days we went into the park at opening, they let us in early once. It was not a MM day and we were let in about 15 min. before 8:00. I also remember that most of the stores were closed as we were waiting.

My last visit was last August, near the end of the month. I actually managed to arrive at Dl. before the park opened. Believe me, what with not being a morning person, that was something that I was rather proud of managing to do. At that time the park opened at 9 a.m., however, before that time main street was open to the park guests. I thought that was pretty awesome. So I took a look at some of the shops, several of which already has terrific windows and interior decorated for Halloween. Ah.... I loved that. Then I went to Blue Ribbon Bakery, the park was open by then. I rode the draft horse pulled wagon after leaving there, I then headed to Adventure land for my first Indy fast pass of the day, before visiting the wildest crew to ever set sail on the high seas.
So I definitely believe that you would have enough time to par take in the most flavorful offerings of the Blue Ribbon Bakery before the rest of the park opens. Hopefully, there will be a number of mornings during your visit to Dl where Main street will be opened 30 minutes early, like it was during my visit.
