What the heck is wrong with you people?

Here's the thing about litter........People need to take personal responsibility for themselves. If a person makes a mess, that person should pick it up. Period.

The amount of litter that happens is disgusting. I find it ironic that people complain about society ruining the environment and that the message to "go green" is everywhere; however, people litter all over the place. :sad2:

ITA that it represents a general decline in personal responsibility. It seems like it's no longer the ME generation, it's devolved into the GE (Generation Entitlement) generation. Maybe it's the GE De-generation...

GA-USC is a HUGE game. These are 18 year olds. I would expect no less from either side. That being said, it's very, very sad.

18 yo's represented a very small fraction of the total attendees. It was mostly adult alumni.

The title I used was to grab attention ;) because I think it's a worthy topic.

And BTW, I'm a University of Miami alumni and fan. Go Canes!:cheer2:

And Steve Dixon should totally be ashamed of himself. My daughters won't be attending UGA, and that's just one of the reasons. Georgia Tech, maybe, but I'd prefer them to go out of state, frankly. Maybe back to MA where much of my family is...

I will have to take a look tomorrow and see after the game how the Swamp and surrounding areas look, I know for us as well as most all of the folks who tailgate around us, we all have trash bags to throw our garbage into. The University provides TONS of recycled cardboard garbage containers all over the campus, so really no reason to not throw things out.

Yeah, UGA tailgaters are mostly alums. I go tailgating on campus once or twice a year and I can say that they DO need more trashcans around because they usually get full pretty quickly. And because the SC game was a night game, and people start tailgating well before noon, I can imagine that there just wasn't anywhere to put trash by the time people started leaving.

No excuse, but just a reason.

That being said, I had friends who used to be temporary hires for after-game cleanup duty, and they LOVED it because people apparently leave unopened six packs of beer behind, as well as trash.

At least they didn't destroy their own campus and the surrounding town by catching dumpsters and cars on fire, as well as, other forms of vandalism like Ohio State University did in 2003 when they won at home against Michigan University.

That is a lot of trash but they should compare Bourbon St. pics with those UGA pics. Mardi Gras!!, Now, THAT is a lot of trash.

I think it is silly to try and make this a generational thing "ME" etc.
Sadly people have always been messy...
Woodstock was left a mess and those ads that ran when I was a kid showing the American Indian standing at the side of the road as trash lands at his feet ( remember the tear) did not get made because folks were neater then...

I am sure there may be examples before that but that would be before my time ... LOL

That said... i was taught that you take out whatever you bring in... or at least try and place it next to the full garbage can... there is no reason to leave such a mess

I agree with you, I do not think it's a generational thing. Every generation says that...it's inaccurate. I do think that there is more trash to be made, if that makes any sense. Most foodstuff anymore is wrapped, individually-packaged, and disposable, know what I mean?

Actually, I really don't think it's an age thing at all. I think people of all ages are behaving like this.

I think it's the older people who are no longer punished or embarrassed about behaving like a sloth, and the younger ones were never taught it in the first place so have no sense of shame or duty to set aside anyway...

There is a lot wrong with people in general. I worked at a credit union inside the IRS building in KY when I lived in Cincy, OH. The building is completely restricted to just employees. Every single bathroom had a sign that read "Please do not wipe feces on the wall". One of the tellers told me that people were going into the bathroom, pooping on the floor, and wiping it on the walls. So much so that they had to make a sign for it. I was only filling for a week.

My Dad used to work security for Water Country. He told me that just about every night people would poop in the shower areas in the bathrooms and some poor teenage kid would have to go in there and clean it up (most of the time it was one of the International kids).

When I go into the dressing room at just about any store it's filled with the previous person's items that they tried on (unless it's a supervised dressing area).

I also am amazed that every time I go to a movie it seems like 70% of the audience just leaves their cups and trash at their seats.

Whatever happened to picking up after yourself (or pooping in a toilet :rotfl:)? I really think a lot of people think that because someone else gets "paid" to do it that they don't have to or just forget, not that they think they're "too good" for it.

I quite agree with it being due to the way you are brought up. We were in Singapore at the Padang for a huge get together/ celebration ( I think it was a national holiday) some years ago. The people there are very anti-litter and , you know what, when we left that area after a night of entertainment there were about 5 little bits of litter in the entire place.

I get really annoyed that folk can trail all the beer, food etc there, but find it too much of a hassle to cart away the lighter weight, empty packaging. It particularly annoys me when going hillwalking. If you can carry a full can of drink up the mountain, then why can't you carry the lighter, empty can back down? How much does a plastic bag weigh to contain your garbage? Even if you refuse to cart it away, then why not bag it up and leave it neatly somewhere that the garbage collectors can remove it, instead of spreading it all around the field?

Friday I was at a Charity golf tournament and the greens keeper asked all the participants to not drive the golf carts on the greens if entirely possible. They had received 5 inches of rain that week and so the grounds were soaked.

My DH & I rode around to see how the teams were doing and watched so many of the teams drive on the greens when they could have walked to their ball. We were amazed at the number of tire marks from the carts on the greens. People were really inconsiderate.

I mean when you are talking about how your golf ball has no bounce etc due to how wet the greens are, why drive on them when you know they are soaked and the cart will leave marks, almost trenches? :confused:Because of them doing this when others came through after them, the balls were getting lost in the mud that was made from the golf carts.

It was really pathetic. I felt bad because it was an event for the charity I work for. These were all professional business men and women and they were just too lazy to walk to where their golf ball was even if it was just a little way from the cart path.:sad2:
