What should I do differently this time?

We are heading back to Disney World in 12 days and I'm thinking about what I might want to do differently with my photography this time. I have a Canon 7D and I love taking pictures with it all around the parks. I'm just trying to do some different things this time. I don't have a prime lens. I was thinking of picking up a 50mm lens and forcing myself to try that on this trip. Good idea? What other ideas do you have for me? I'd love to have some more photo fun on this trip!

Looking at your album, you've got a lot of great pix there! I also think you are on to something with the 50mm. I try different projects where I "force" myself to use a certain lens or certain camera. As far something different to do, go on a Disney scavenger hunt to capture the details of the parks (ie. close-ups of the mosaics in Cinderella's Castle, details in the the architecture, or objects in out- of- the- way places. Let us know what you come up with.

Thanks! I loooove taking pics at Disney! I did do a photo scavenger hunt from MouseScrappers one time. I should see if they have a new one posted. Does anyone have one posted here? Or should I make one up?

Do you usually take a tripod with you to WDW? If not, I'd recommend trying it - it's great for longer exposure night shots & for fireworks too.

Go off the beaten path!

This last trip I did a Kim Possible mission with my daughter, in World Showcase, it brought us to places in the China pavilion I hadn't been before. There were some nice picture opportunities, for pics from angles and perspectives that aren't seen as often.

I like that Kim Possible idea. I might have to try that myself someday.

But how about trying more wide angle shots. From your smugmug, it looks like you mainly zoom in for your pictures. So going wide might be a nice litle challenge. I know it can be hard at Disney; but try to embrace the crowds. Let them be a nice little bit of storytelling to your shots.

Like stated, using a prime will definitely be a "nice" challenge. It can definitely be frustrating sometimes, depending on your shooting style. But you'll be forced to think out the box. I do love my Sigma 30mm, even though it lacks zoom versatility. The creamy smooth bokeh makes up for it though.

I do tend to zoom in, that's true. Good thought to try more wide shots. I like the off the beaten path idea, too. I don't like the idea of lugging a tripod through the parks. BTDT, didn't even like the pictures very much. Sorry!

But keep the ideas coming! Or if you have a scavenger hunt idea, let me know! I took a bunch of hidden mickey pics on our last trip and that was fun.

good idea, the 50mm 1.8 is fun and less than $100

It looks like you're getting some good suggestions here. Have you considered renting a fisheye or wide angle lens?

I also wanted to add that I enjoyed looking through your scrapbooks.
