What seats do you pick on plane?

We (me, DH, and twin DDs 9) are flying SW. We didn't pay to have preferred boarding, and I know that business class boards first.(I will check in at exactly 24 hours--and hope that we get a good boarding assignments.) In the event that we have a choice, where would you choose to sit?

On SW, I prefer to head to the middle to back since families tend to sit in the front. Usually quieter back there.

Well I aim for the exit row.... but that's not an option for you. If I can't get that I go way back. Everyone seems to want to sit up front to get off quick. Better chance of extra space in the back.

In most cases it really does not matter where to me (unless it is a long international flight) but I would suggest looking at the website below - it has pretty much all of the aircraft used by all of the airlines with thoughts and comments on each and every seat location.

With SWA it's not really that complicated as all planes are versions of the Boeing 737 with essentially the same seating arrangement--three seats on each side of the aisle with a slight offset.

With four people that means you'll have to decide if you want an entire row of three with the fourth person in your party in the aisle across from you or if you want to go two and two. In the latter scenario my preference would be aisle and middle seats in either consecutive rows or across the aisle.

Just so you realize that people who paid for early boarding will get on first also and people with kids under 3 so you may be down the list pretty far. I would head toward the back and have in mind which child will sit with which adult or if they want to sit together if you can only find 2 beside each other, because there is a good chance you will not find 4 together.

We tend to split up with each kid finding a window, on flights we pick then we all pick a window wherever.

I like the back cause as someone else said it tends to be the less crowded if every seat isn't filled.

For our short hour and fifty minute flight, it makes no difference--and besides, they ALL arrive at WDW at the same time.

I don't think it really matters where you sit ... whether at the front of the plane or the very last row, everyone gets there at the same time ... plus if you're sitting towards the back of the plane, by the time you've deplaned, there will be less time you'll have to wait for your luggage.

Just avoid the row in front of the emergency row . . . no reclining seats

Each section has its plusses and minuses.

Front of plane: First off plane when arriving. Can be noisier with more families seated here, snack carts parked in ailes and people heading to bathroom.

Middle of plane: Smoothest ride in plane if in turbulence as plane rotates about its center. Furthest from bathrooms.

Back of plane: Close to bathrooms, often first served drinks and snacks. Quieter than other sections. Roughest ride when in turbulence as back of plane yaws right and left. Engine noise can be higher in these seats. Last off plane when arriving.

Thank you for the help. Ideal world: I decided that if I can 3 in one row and one across...my girls won't want to sit next to a stranger, and I'd worry about them fidgeting. DH can sit across the aisle.

The website and the advice about in front of the emergency aisle was helpful!

I like the idea of more room to spread out in the back, but I also like the idea of being in the middle (away from lav so daughters can stretch and walk to them a few extra steps.) I also like the idea of being away from the families--wait, aren't we in that category? :rotfl:

I guess I will survey the crowd before we board and really, I agree it is a short flight. Regardless of the spot - having three and one across is probably all I need to worry about.

Thanks everyone!

I going to go against everyone here and say I'd try for two windows... one for each DD. DH sits with one and you sit with the other.

Even when I'm traveling by myself, I love a window seat. Preferably in front of the wing, but I'll take behind.

We're a family of 5, so our seats are:
window, middle
window
window, middle.

All three kids get a window.

I agree! That is what we always do. Both kids are going to want a window more than to be sitting next to each other.
And do not hold your breath on what you are aiming for. That is best case scenario, the chance without paying for Early boarding of getting 4 in a row may not be very great. And I don't think the kids will like it. I really think you should try for window and middle and then somewhere else window and middle.
And it is always good to prepare the kids that they may not be next to you but you are all on the same plane so no big deal.

Thanks to whoever caught my goof!! I meant to go back and say if she got a B number then she would be after the families also. So Thank You. I shouldn't try to do 2 things at once.

We've flown numerous times including two trips to California. However, whenever I've booked our tickets, we've just gone with the four together. Never really had the front, middle, back option- or at least I never thought about it. The girls switch off for the window for the flight back - so provided we have one window, we're good. I figured that if the four of us can't sit together - or at least three--DH and I will each sit with a child.

Thanks for the input everyone! I am not familiar with SW so I am a a bit more panicked than usual. (I am a bit of an overplanner...)
