Today, while getting in my car there was an Expedition parked in front of it. I noticed on the back window was a few stickers. One said "Operation; Iraqi Freedom" the next one said "Combat Veteran" the last one was a parachute with a design around it, on the top it said "I Jump Out of Planes" on the bottom it said "And Kill People"

I know a very good family friend who voluntarily served two terms and was a Green Barets in Viet Nam would be disgusted by this and would probably have waited around to say something. My father, a Vet, would shake his head at it. At the bottom one, the others they wouldn't have cared nor do I.

How do you feel about the last sticker?

I personally don't care for it, however, I do live in the USA and know about freedom of speech, but that does not mean I have to like it. I know it is their job, but killing people is not something I would be advertising on my vehicle. I think killing people is an unfortunate thing that some military people have to do to survive.

I'm not impressed by it.
Sounds like someone grandstanding a bit and looking for a fight.

Vietnam veteran here. I do have a sticker that says I'm the grandparent of a United States Marine. I see no problem with a serviceman or veteran displaying pride in what they do or have done, but the last one just might lack taste. While their jobs are, in fact, to jump out of planes and kill people, I believe enough people know that and it doesn't need to be flaunted.

We all see hundreds of messages on personal vehicles. Since moving down here I see all kinds of window messages like "In Loving Memory of..." and some supporting Right to Life and all sorts of religous messages. I'm not sure I get the need to display all that, but they have the right to do it, even though some might be offended. I'm not offended by that, but it can get old (just my opinion, which probably isn't worth much).

Getting back to the original post, I don't find the sticker offensive, but I think there are plenty of better ways to show your pride.

I see a lot of bumper stickers that are stupid. That sounds like one of them.

Abortion, Hunting, piercings, sexual preferences, political crap, red neck jokes, BACK OFF, and those little pictures of the boy peeing on other car makers names is the dumbest of all... right up there with the sweaty overweight dude cruising in a beat up POS with playboy bunny siloutettes on his mud flaps.

:snooty:

You sound like a very nice guy.

Its not my taste, but I don't think less of someone that would like it. I don't think its offensive.

Eh, not my cup of tea but nothing worth getting worked up over either. A silly macho thing, IMHO.

One of my cousins is in the army and actually gave my aunt a bumper sticker that says "My son jumps out of planes and kills people". My cousin (and other soldiers, I'm sure) definitely does not enjoy this nor is he "proud" but he finds some slight humor/irony in what he gets paid to do. He absolutely hates his job. Now, my Aunt and cousin do not have the bumper sticker on their vehicles so maybe they feel it is not appropriate.

While I would certainly never display such a sticker, I am not offended by it because sadly, the bumper sticker contains a true statment. Now, if the sticker said "I like jumping out of planes and killing people", then I would have a problem with it. That's just my opinion.

I like it because I like bumper stickers that give me something to think about at red lights. The "My kid was on the honor role" or "It's not a choice, it's a baby" and such are nice, but they're boring as crap at a light. Seen it!

It's new. It's interesting. And it is kind of funny to think that he has to answer that asked what he does for a living. I remember answering, "I'm a professional ***-wiper" when I was a nurse's aide. Always joke that I quit hospice nursing because I got tired of answering, "I watch people die" when asked what I did for a living. My guess is that it is kind of a joke like that.

Doesn't offend me, but you have to get up very early in the morning and work all day long for me to be offended.

I have to agree with you. My brother served in Viet Nam and that very much, unfortunately, defines who he is today. He's still dealing with flashbacks...reads constantly and keeps the TV on so that his mind is always occupied. He saw a lot of action and lost dear friends.

When my former boyfriend (way back in the 70's) was going into the Air Force, he was telling my brother about the training he would receive...something mechanical. And I remember my brother's bitter retort that all he learned how to do was kill people. Although I don't think my brother has a similar bumper sticker, I'd understand where he was coming from if he did.

I totally agree with this!

I wonder if Police offers say they get paid to kill people too, or if Oncologist Doctors say "I'm A Doctor, And I tell people they are going to die".....things that make you go hmmm

I think it's a totally bizarre thing to put on one's bumper. The need to brag about this issue, imho, indicates perhaps a need for mental health counseling. I knew a guy during Vietnam who had collected ears. He was crazy and I did not feel safe in his presence. I understand that killing is necessary in war but the relishing of it or public bragging afterward...pretty scary.
