What Rides / Attractions Are You "Retired" From???

Interesting post. Space Mountain used to be a favorite for me. But as I have gotten older, I'm finding it's just not enjoyable anymore. The seating is awkward, and the way you get thrown around is just painful for me now. Rock n Roller Coaster is a similar situation. I'm pretty short, and my head is down low enough that during the ride, my head gets knocked against the sides of the restraint. It hurts. I just don't find it fun anymore. For the most part, I skip these two now. I plan to ride each of these once on my upcoming trip, just because we're doing our first ever week-long trip (I've always been a day here or there or long weekend kind of person) and we are going to try and ride every single ride at least once. So I'll sacrifice to check the box, but once will be enough for these two.

For me, Space Mountain. It's way too rough on my back and neck. I also can't do anything that spins. I get immediately nauseous.
This last trip I skipped EE, which is my favorite Disney coaster. I wasn't feeling well that day and didn't want to chance it. As I'm getting older, some rides are getting harder to do.

That (aging) seems to be a recurring sentiment here on this thread. At least we had our day.
I suppose soon I won't be able to do some of my must-do's. But for now I am soldiering on.
I just posted a reply to someone else. I suppose that when they day comes that I have to skip certain rides - it will mean I can better enjoy Disney in a more relaxing way. Because admittedly, I feel a bit of a slave to getting my must-do rides in.

Splash & TOT are because of my stomach. I have problems with nausea (among other issues) very often & cant tolerate queasy inducing rides anymore. It does suck, but hey, there's so much more I can & do ride!

Exactly! Thats why I'm feeling good about the inevitability of having to skip certain rides. So much more to enjoy at Disney besides the rides!

Hmmm. There's that much of a difference?
For me, the ride in general just too much for me, and it was the one is DisneyLand that first scared the heck out of me!
Huge difference between the MK version of Space Mountain and the DL version!! The MK version is actually more similar to the Matterhorn Bobsleds at DL. Same ride system and nearly the same car/seat design. I feel the same about the Matterhorn as I do about Space at the MK. My issue with Space isn't the dark (I actually LOVE that part!). It's the way my body feels during the ride, as I get shoved against that lap bar. It hurts and isn't much fun at all for me. Now, Space at DL...awesome! It's a more traditional two-wide car/seat design. Much easier on the body. I rode it at least 5 times when I went to DL last year. Space at MK has turned into a once per trip at the most and I'm now known to skip it altogether.

Congrats on that upcoming long trip. My upcoming 8 days is longer than I originally thought it would be. I told myself just go for as long as I could - maybe four or five days. Then things just fell into place and my employer offered me extra hours (permanently!) and I up'd it to 8 days. I'm excited about that. And like you... I'm trying to get as many rides as possible in. Also like you, if I were going with partners, I too would still do SM. But since I am going SOLO... I am going to do myself a favor and skip it. I'm actually excited about it. More time for other things.

ENJOY that long visit. You're going to have a blast!

There are a few rides I have never done and never plan to, so I can't say I have "retired" from them! I consider myself retired from Space Mountain; I just get no enjoyment from it. As others have said, if I was with someone who didn't want to go on it alone, I would probably suck it up and ride. Primeval Whirl is also a no-go for me. I'm sad to say I may be nearing retirement when it comes to any roller coaster. The motion sickness and jarring of my middle-aged body outweigh the thrill. I foresee a lot of the WDW Railroad and Peoplemover in my future, but I can live with that!

So anyway, sorry I am so long winded.... just wondering what attractions / rides you always used to do in the past, that you have decided to finally ditch / "Retire" yourself from and why? The way I see it, at the end of the day, you just save yourself valuable time when you retire yourself from a ride / attraction. So I'm feeling good about eliminating SM from my itinerary! :flower1:

My child has never been to Tom Sawyer Island nor Swiss Family Tree House.

Retired Rides for me (in no particular order):
-- Primeval Whirl - a waste of a good body thrashing. Everest 2x makes more sense...and I can only do Everest once-a-day anymore.
-- Kali River Rapids - the soaking might be fun if the rest of the ride was.
-- My next vacation may be my last with the simulations of Star Wars and/or Mission: Space.
-- My daughter did not like Frozen Even After....and I'm OK with never having to go on again (but we do enjoy the sing-along in Hollywood Studios).
-- Kids stuff - Goofy Coaster, Dumbo, TriceraTops (but we do enjoy the Royal Carousel).
-- Is Stitch's Great Escape a ride? Regardless, retired.

Enjoy your vacation.

Wow. To be honest, I must say that I cant recall precisely what it is that batters me on SM... perhaps am indeed being shoved against the lap bar. I think it's all a big blur because at the end of the ride - i think I am a tad traumatized. I would never use that word up until now.. but I must wonder if that word truly fits, because I just can't recall. I just knew that afterward I told myself... that's enough!

LOL. Great post.
My sentiments about Stitch! Laughed too hard at this.
Goofy's BARNSTORMER... never giving it up!
Frozen: havent done it. But I will in November, at which point I may skip the next time. Isn't great to nix these things off your list. So much less to stress about.
KALI: OMG! You just made me realize that the ride really ISN'T that great. It's just the anticipation of know you are going to get soaked. I laughed too hard at this!
PW - cant wait to do this an feel thato I will enjoy it... but your sentiments were hilarious. A waste of a good body thrashing. lol.
I have NEVER been on the Royal Carousel, and I suspect that I never will.

Tom Sawyer Island... I wouldn't say retired, but skipping it this go round. Bigger fish to fry.
The Treehouse... you do it once... do you ever REALLY need to do it again? Skipping it as per usual.

Ellen's Universe of Energy. Almost died on my first ride. Died of complete boredom. Still don't know how I came out alive.
I'm sorry, I just had to:rotfl:

ROFL. I actually love that attraction. I will hate to see it go.
But your post.... hilarious!

Railroad and Peoplemover, lol. I love them both - even now while I'm still thrill-ride-able. So 'm going to treasure these to in a few years myself. lol.
Yes, I agree about the rides / attractions that you've never done from the get-go. I have never done the Royal Carousel and I don't ever plan to.

I don't know that I'd say I've retired these rides, but if I never go on them again that's ok:

Hall of Presidents
Country Bear Jamboree
Tomorrowland Speedway
Stitch's Great Escape

I haven't gone to Disney as much as a lot of the DISers here, but I do have some rides that I either never have and never will ride (Mission Space, teacups, Astro-Orbiter, Primeval Whirl, Anything Else Vomit-Inducing), but I also have some "done it, don't need to do it anymore" rides. Space Mountain is definitely on that list. I rode it years and years ago, and it was fine, but I think 43-year old me won't find it as agreeable. It seems like the older I get, the less tolerant I am of "thrill" rides. And I've ridden some pretty extreme coasters just a few years ago (Busch Gardens, Williamsburg), but even then I could tell I was getting more sensitive to them (looking at you, Alpengeist). Being slung around at high speeds and screaming just doesn't do it for me anymore. LOL.

I've never ridden Rockin' Roller Coaster, and probably never will. Ditto for Expedition Everest.

Big Thunder is still in the loop though. That's just fun!

Tea Cups (which were my favorite as a kid) because they make me sick now.

Primeval Hurl because I value my neck and spine.

The Orange side of Mission Space because I thought I was going to die on it.

Yeah, I Understand. Thats how I feel about Rides like Dumbo and Small World.
Hall of Presidents = never wanted to do anyway, but want to do this time.
Country Bear - never did it.. never wanted to. Probably never will.
Speedway, I like Speedway, but like you said - If I dont do it... no big loss.
Stitch... Did once... never again.

Wow.
Hurl... lol. I can't wait to get on this. But you guys are really pouring on the neck and spine thick!

Orange Mission. I loved it. Want more of it. Cant wait to get on the new version.
Teacups: So sorry to hear that :guilty:

Love Big Thunder.
At least you are honest about your limits.

There are a few I'm "semi-retired" from - DS and DH love RRC, for instance, and I'll go with them...once per trip. But if they want to get in line again, I do something else and meet them. Twice in a row is too much for me.

And there are some I've never done - the "bad" side of Mission Space, the water slide some mentioned above... I guess I can't really "retire" from them, but I definitely don't plan to do them!

I don't understand all the Primeval Whirl hate. DS and I love it!!

But I'd say I've "fired" rather than "retired" Stitch's Great Escape.

And I have one "temporarily retired" ride - the carousel. We skip it because DH and DS are embarrassed to go anywhere near it without small children. But the minute I have grandkids, I am back on!!!!

I have a short list:

Teacups (My husband hates them and I never feel like I'm missing out when we skip)
Tomorrowland Speedway (Whew, SNOOZEFEST!)
Mission Space Orange (holy claustrophobia)
It's a Small World (the song is just too much for me. Ruins my brain for the rest of the day. My exception is if I'm with someone who has never been to WDW. It's a right of passage!)

TBD.... Tower of Terror. I'm riding it for the first time on my September trip and this ride may be joining my retired list :o
