What psychology of mk do you know about?

This is a little off focus, but does anyone know why there is ALWAYS a smell of Natural Gas as you pass through the tunnel at the exit from Splash Mountain?:confused3 (It's close to the little play area for kids.)

not really a psychological thing, but i think the fact that the Magic Kingdom is actually the second story of the park is truly fascinating. the tunnels for the cast members are built underneath it, so technically, when you're walking through the Magic Kingdom, you are walking over hundreds of people/utilities!

omg i know...the worst during our Feb 2008 trip was in the queue of Pirates..and the line was horrendous, not at all fast moving like it is at WDW..i thought i was gonna pass out

I know what you guys are talking about.
I do hate to say tho. that smell you smell in POC is the water from the ride.
I don't know why it smells sooooo bad, but the last time i was there i got wet on the drop (i was in the front) and smelled like that all day! :scared1:
They really need to fix that.

Alright last few for the night, i need to go to bed!

Who’s Still Thirsty? . . . More than 75 million Cokes are consumed each year at Walt Disney World Resort along with 13 million bottles of water. Guests also gobble 10 million hamburgers, 6 million hot dogs, 9 million pounds of French fries and more than 300,000 pounds of popcorn.
I guess that pumped in AIR is working.

What the Well-Dressed Mouse Will Be Wearing . . . depends entirely on the occasion. Mickey Mouse himself has more than 290 different sets of duds, ranging from a scuba suit to a tuxedo. Minnie Mouse’s wardrobe contains more than 200 outfits, including everything from a cheerleader ensemble to evening gowns.
Disney has thought of everything!!! no more questions from kids on why mickey and minnie never have new clothes!:rotfl2:

Goodnight everyone!

oh and another thing that's interesting: did you know that they don't sell gum in the parks at WDW?? they do this so people don't stick gum on rides/chairs/trees/etc. great idea! :)

Love this thread!

I was talking to a CM once about Fastpass, and I made a statement about how I would never wait in line hours for a 2 minute ride. She told me that even though people are waiting for a long time, Disney sets up the lines so you are never far from seeing a 'turn' in the line.. therefore giving you the illusion that you're getting closer and closer to your goal! Very cool!

To me, the most pervasive psychological aspect (and perhaps the most scary) is the strong, almost psychotic customer loyalty that Disneyphiles exhibit about all things Disney.

It goes beyond preference -- it's practically a syndrome... (no pun intended).

I so have it too!...I start planning my next trip on the way home from the current one.:rotfl:

I went to Emerson College in Boston and one of our performing arts professors would come down and do weekend seminars with The Imagineers about how to read a ride. She talked about how the experience needs to start the minute that a guest enters the line, and should last thru the ride/exhibit and then the exit. She talked about how they could incorporate many theatrical stage design techniques to the keep the guests interest and build excitement and compared the techniques used in telling the story of an attraction to the telling of the great dramas. It has been nearly 20 years since she was my professor:scared: so I have forgot a lot of what she said they did, but it was really fascinating.

These things are so much fun and always add to the Disney experiance! :goodvibes Here are a couple that I have read or noticed.

The doors in Liberty Square all have two-digit numbers on or above them (designed to look like an address). If you put "18" in front of each of the numbers, it gives you the year in which that style of house would have been popular.

On POTC, if you enter the turnstiles and get in the line on the right, as you walk toward the boarding are look for a window with bars on it on your right-hand side. There are two skeletons playing chess. Disney Imagineers wanted this to be perfectly legitimate so they researched past masters tournaments for a no-win outcome and placed the chess pieces correctly on the board between the skeletons so they would appear to ponder their next move for eternity. (Because there is no next move!) :rotfl:

I have more and will post as I think of them.

Wow, I love this thread! Great idea!!

I think I read this somewhere, but I'm not sure if it's true...
That when you are walking down main street of magic kingdom, the lights are like laterns, and as you continue to walk down the street they turn into more modern lights. If it's true, that's pretty awesome!
I'm checking it out when I go there in 3 weeks!

I know Disney does things to make the wait shorter, but I never thought about the seeing a turn in the line thing--so true!

Man, I LOVE disney :goodvibes

One i just thought of one. It been Awhile since i heard it so If i get the details wrong sorry.

In the HM after you see the bride in the attic you go out the window and turn backwards to enter the cemetery this is done to symbolize youR death.:scared1:
Up until that point the happy haunts should not have interacted with you.
Now that you enter the cemetery and/or dead they can interact with you.

True, and you got backward because the bride got angry that you were up there so she threw you out the window backwards. ;)

Because Critter Country stinks! :lmao:

Really though it is swamp gas or sewer gas if you technically. This gas settles to the ground in various low places when the wind isn't present to distribute it.

Apologize if these were already mentioned.
The America Pavilion uses Inverted Force Perspective to make a bigger building appear to be smaller.

When raining why doesn't water pour off of Spaceship Earth?
Because of a hidden drainage system built into the structure which drains into the Lagoon through the Supports.

This is intentionally. Walt wanted the entrance to MK to be like coming to the movies. Pardon me if I get any details wrong, I'm trying to remember from my KTTK tour.

From in front of the entrance you cannot see anything inside, just like the closed curtains at the movies (used to be at least). Then as you walk under the tunnels there are "movie posters" highlighting upcoming attractions. The smell of popcorn is of course there just like the movies. They sell it just inside on the left I believe. Finally as you walk down main street the names on the windows serve as the opening credits honoring those who helped make the "film".

True! Also don't forget that at the movies the last name shown at the end in the credits is the director's. At WDW, turn right at the end of Main Street and the name listed in the window over the ice cream shop is Walt Disney's (looking out over the castle and his statue that he never actually got to see). As the Director his name is the only one allowed to face the castle.
