I want to learn to add fonts to blank designs and do beginner designs. What would be a good starting point?

I recommend Photoshop Elements. You can download a trial version to see if it is right for you. There are many free tutorials available online as well as free add-in/enhancements you can install to add more features. Also quite a few very good books available....many of us DISigners use it!!

If you love it, get very good at it and have the $$$....you can someday move up to Photoshop but it does cost hundreds of dollars.

To do what you are wanting...you don't have to spend any money. Here is a thread that teaches you how to do that using MS Word (if you already have it):

Also, you can find all kinds of free fonts on www.dafont.com. The disney font is called "Waltograph" and there are other fonts like "Mickey" and "Minnie" and "AL Cinderella". There are instructions on the thread that I posted above on how to download a font on your computer if don't already know how.

There are all kinds of tips on that thread from adding wording using a textbox to making your own DISigns and even doing a "wordfill" where you have a picture inside of a word. If you enjoy working with word and want to move to the next step then consider buying Photoshop Elements.
