What odd things do you remember

Woke up this morning to three fresh inches of snow on the winter that will not end...

The family was talking about our next trip and what we are looking foward to. It got me thinking of some of the more uncommon memories that come to mind such as:

1. Walking through the Splash Mountain line in August and feeling the blasts of freezing cold air conditioning at the start of the walkway tunnel.

2. The monster fish and turtles on the bridge from Test Track to World Showcase. (we are used to seeing the turtles, but the fish we saw the last trip were BIG)

3. The "bus" smell when we are running on a local trail that runs near a highway and a diesel truck goes by.

4. The huge frogs in the pond in China.

Please list some more, I am sure there are a ton that I cannot think of right now.

Ok, interesting thread.

Our 2nd trip to WDW, upon checking in at POP we headed to our room, walking thru the 70's (where we were staying) the Jackson's "Dancin' Machine" was playing. I had an overwhelming urge to dance my way to the room. Now when I hear that song (I previously disliked) I can't help but smile and dance.

My first time walking thru the queue at Space Mt, I thought "gosh this is the longest enterance ever!!!....I pray Walt was smart enough to use a conveyer belt out of here". And viola there was one!!!

The "swampy" smell in PotC and iasw.

As far as scent-memories go, this one tops my list!! I love when I randomly get a musty/watery smell back home and it makes me think of the water rides in WDW!

random memories...
-my sister going with the wrong family back when wdw only sold bright yellow ponchos so everyone was identical
-convincing another sister that the b.o. she smelled was her, and watching her bowl people over to get off the bus and head to the bathroom in MGM to put sunscreen under her arms to cover the smell (p.s., it WASNT her... lol)
-getting off kali river rapids with my bf after getting SOAKED only to have the skies open in a torrential downpour. since we were already wet, we didn't run for cover and felt like we had AK to ourselves!

-My first trip to disney was sept 1995. We stayed at AS Sports and they had automatic flush toilets in the lobby bathroom. I had never seen them and was blown away. My DBF thinks Im crazy that I remember that.

-Recently the hand soap at my gym smelled like the handsoap in the public disney bathrooms...again my DBF thought I was crazy.

Went to Magic Kingdom in 1975 (yes, you read that right) and I remember a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride that completely wowed me as a ten year old kid.

One of my best memories of our trip from last year was watching Wishes in MK on the last night of our trip. We were trying to find a good spot to watch because it was fairly crowded, and we ended up sitting on top of the fence in Frontierland (right beside the thru way to Adventureland). We were the only people over in that section and it was truly magical!

Not a memory from the park, but it is something that reminds me of the park. After a long winter the weather finally warmed up and it was at the point where you could wear short sleeves and jeans comfortably for the first time. Well I'm walking to class and I'm enjoying the air when a campus bus comes by me and I smell the Disney bus smell. That put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

gosh! That seems like forever ago, but I totally know what you're talking about. I wish it was still there, but it went away during the anthrax scares after 9-11. I kinda loved that stuff!

I had some crazy good pineapple frozen yogurt the other day that *almost* tasted like Dole Whip.... almost. It definitely was good enough to make me smile and think of Disney!

OH! And the post above reminds me that any day that the weather hits between about 65-72, and the sun is shinning and the sky is blue, I think to myself, "This is a perfect Disney Day!" - Cause when I lived 40 minutes away with an annual pass, any day that looked like that, and there weren't any other pressing things to attend to, we'd be wanderin' through the park cause it'd be too gorgeous to stay inside!!

I remember that too! I also remember walking along RR tracks @ WDW but I never could think of where it was because I remembered it being a wooded area. My DH thought I was crazy but then I read posts about the RR that used to be @ Ft. Wilderness. My first trip to WDW was @ Ft. Wilderness so that must be the RR I remember.

Similar and yet completely opposite.

When its bad weather here, snowing and blowing, I visualize people in bare arms and shorts walking into the MK for the very first time. I can hear the music, smell the popcorn, and see the amazement on their faces. I visually walk around the Emporium and see the castle for the first time. In my mind I walk up mainstreet USA past the Dapper Dans and the clock, and I too am in a good mood for the rest of the day.

OMG me too!! I thought I was dreaming that stuff up!

There are a lot of particular smells that remind me of Disney; the smell of Space Mtn and Spaceship Earth, the smells of the Deluxe hotels but I know there are miles of threads about this.

How about...catching a whiff of air conditioning from somewhere? The AC in Disney stores and resorts seems so distinct. Or the Disney water smell from POTC or Splash Mtn.

It's rare, but once in a blue moon I smell those in the random places and it takes me back.

My dad in Tomorrowland in 1977. He was in a coma for five years then died when I was 13 and I have so few memories of him. I cherish the memory at WDW - and it wasn't anything in particular...it was just us being there and me in a very 70s summer outfit and just being wowed.

It's just not Disney until I get a whiff of that water!!

Also, the "smell" of heat gets me in the Disney mood. Heat totally has a smell, I'm not crazy! Go to a shopping center in 80 degree weather and get a big smell- it totally reminds me of Disney!!

The sight and smell of new opera gloves.
For our daughter's fifth birthday we took her to the Magic Kingdom for the very first time. We did the rope drop, the rides at Fantasyland ,then came the big surprise. Lunch at Cinderella's Castle. We changed her clothes, put on a beautiful party dress, a new crown and opened a new package of opera gloves., Our our princess was prepared to meet Disney's super princess. Cinderella loved the ensemble and told our girl how lovely she looked and was, our girl was thrilled. One of my favorite pictures of that day was of her eating a hot dog at the castle still wearing the gloves.To this day the sight and smell of opera gloves bring me back to that magical day.
