What Not To Wear At Walt Disney World - Getting ready for the next one -Show on again

and me:

oh, i knew there was something about you i liked!!!! she is seriously my idol. she's such a rock star.

We were near Mama Melrose’s at that point, so I figured we’d stop in to humor her. We walked in….to an empty restaurant. And were seated almost immediately.

 that's crazy! ray and i ate here back in april and they were turning people away left and right who didn't have an ADR. you'd think during free dining it would be like that!

A little dark for picture taking…but don't those lights in the first picture look like a bunch of tiny hidden Mickeys?

yes, they do! trippy.

And – what would YOU do with six hours alone in WDW?

where do i begin??????

 You are most like Malificent, love it!

Glad you were able to get into Mama Melrose, too bad you had to eat your words though. ;) You are lucky you were not traveling with my brothers, they never let you forget when you are wrong. :headache:

I didn't even know that there was a cowboy storyline on the Great Movie ride! I've always alwasy gotten the gangster one! hmmmfff
;)

BTW, the girl gangster must work alot, cuz we had her too!:rotfl2:

Great update! Can't wait to hear what you did in WDW for 6 hours alone! So cool!

WOW i can't believe you were able to just walk into Mama Melrose!! That's amazing!!

Hmm...6 hrs alone? No idea what i would do! maybe shop! or resort hop!

I have the exact opposite problem, I ALWAYS get the cowboy story. Meh. I will get the gangster one in May if it's the last thing I do. :rotfl2:

I wish there were more WALL-E things at WDW.
No kidding! You'd think they wanted the poor little guy to disappear from our memories based on teh utter lack of antyhing Wall-E related at WDW. :sad2:

Jakkie asked if we could go to a table service restaurant
:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

No way?! Sweet!:yay:

I had never set foot in Mama Melrose’s before because I’ve been eating Italian food my entire life and usually like to try different cuisines when I’m on vacation. I also hadn’t heard many good things about this place. Well, we loved it!
Our waiter Pat was really nice, and the décor of the restaurant was fun. I would definitely go here again!

We have never tried Mama Melrose for the same reasons! Hmmm. I may have to make it a point to try it out next time! Glad you enjoyed it!

Hi! I just wanted to let yo know that I'm enjoying the report. Looking forward to more. :)

Hey everyone - just noticed that my show is on again tomorrow, November 11, at 6pm on TLC! So if you want to watch it, there is your chance.

Hi! I just wanted to let yo know that I'm enjoying the report. Looking forward to more. :)

 Thanks and hello!

We have never tried Mama Melrose for the same reasons! Hmmm. I may have to make it a point to try it out next time! Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes I was surprised, I really liked it! I totally cleaned my plate. The themeing of the restaurant is really fun, they have all this great old music playing and old movie posters on the walls.

No kidding! You'd think they wanted the poor little guy to disappear from our memories based on teh utter lack of antyhing Wall-E related at WDW. :sad2:

It makes me nervous! Maybe they were not prepared for how popular the film was. I feel like there was a ton more stuff for Meet the Robinsons and that movie didn't seem to be as popular (although it was wonderful!).

I have the exact opposite problem, I ALWAYS get the cowboy story. Meh. I will get the gangster one in May if it's the last thing I do. :rotfl2:

I miss the cowboy story, I like all the fire better than all the shooting

I hadn't been alone in WDW since I was on the college program 6 years ago - it was so fun to have some time to myself! And we really lucked out with Mama Melrose. One of my regrets on this trip - I should've gotten an ADR for each day. I could always have cancelled if need be.

Yeah I hate it when the CMs on the Great Movie Ride aren't into playing up their role. That seems like one of the most fun jobs at WDW and it makes me crazy when you get a gangster or cowboy who is just meh.

Glad you were able to get into Mama Melrose, too bad you had to eat your words though. ;) You are lucky you were not traveling with my brothers, they never let you forget when you are wrong. :headache:

Ugh - yes that is how Jack is too! I was lucky I was with Jakkie that day and not him!

 that's crazy! ray and i ate here back in april and they were turning people away left and right who didn't have an ADR. you'd think during free dining it would be like that!

I was shocked, we really lucked out! Such a good meal...way better than eating rubbery noodles from ABC Commissary or something :crazy2:

Too cool :thumbsup2 You probably couldn't have taken that if you had tried!

I just noticed it the other night when I was posting this entry. Fun!

Too funny about the Great Movie Ride, we had the gangster too. And it was a girl Mugsy, and she was meh. I wonder if it's the same one? And all the time I was thinking, man, I haven't had the cowboy story line in years! Too funny! :lmao:

I hate it when they sound like they are just mumbling their memorized lines from the script. This guy did some improv too, he was so funny! I wish I had written down some of the things that he said.

Only had the cowboy story line one time and it was in a LONG time ago. The meal at Mama's looked good. I have been hesitant to add it to the list of possiblities for next time. I believe that policy requires reconsiderination. Looking forward to hearing about the solo adventure.

I haven't been to DHS technically ever, the last time I went was when I was nine and it was still called MGM. You really have me wanting to go again! Great update.

I'm scrolling through the TLC schedule for today and all I see is a marathon of J&K plus 8 and My Shocking Story. What time are you on? Have I already missed you?

Hmm that's weird! It is on their website, for 6pm:

It's definitely worth checking out again, I feel like a lot of the great stuff there are the 'newer' attractions like Rock N' Rollercoaster & Toy Story Mania! I always have fun with the Backlot Tour too, there are always adding new things to it!

I was really impressed with Mama's - I eat a LOT of chicken parm and theirs was so good, tons of cheese with perfectly al dente pasta. Sooo good.

That is wicked awesome! I think you should frame it :thumbsup2

Thanks! I'll definitely have to print it out for my scrapbook (whenever I get around to starting it....)

Very strange. I'm in Scarsdale, NY (20 minutes north of NYC) and at 6 p.m. the Cablevision IO Digital Cable schedule is showing the J&K Plus 8's "The Cutting Room Floor" episode. That show's been on all day, contrary to the TLC website listing. WAH!!! I wanted to see you!!! I may have to take my frustration out by eating extra chocolate. Or by not cleaning. Again.

We had an hour and a half to kill before Jakkie’s Magical Express bus came along to whisk her back towards Illadelphia. We laid around and chatted, both feeling pretty tired. At some point I snuck out and bought her a Mickey rice krispy treat from Roaring Forks, as a snack for the plane. I was really bummed that she was leaving, you sometimes find out on vacation that there are some friends/family members that you are just not meant to be around 24 hours a day for multiple days in a row…Jakkie is not one of those people. Every minute she had been at WDW had been so fun.
Around 5:15p we went out front to wait for her bus. The stop was in a completely unshaded area out front and the sun was absolutely scorching. The bus was late and I was anxious and nervous! It had been a bit tricky to get Jakkie on an ME bus the day before we were due to check out, so I was hoping there would be no problems. Eventually it did show, and she was off!
The first thing I did was pull out my citrus Basin bomb and take a bath. Which was awesome. I realize I am on my third paragraph already with no pictures, so here’s one I ganked off the internet of what my bath bomb kind of looked like.

I was still stuffed full of chicken parm, so dinner was a banana and a brownie from Roaring Forks – meh. I grabbed the good camera and set off to explore WL.

I spied this little nook
DSC_0180.jpg

And curled up there for a bit. I think I wrote some post cards. Or just sat on my rear and stared at the fire. It was a pretty place, but not all that peaceful due to close proximity to Whispering Canyon Café.

Now I shall check out DVC!

I walked through the villas out to the beach. And found the pool bar. Yay! I bought a Captain’s Mai Tai. The bartender asked for my ID, and stared at it. And me. And back at the ID, and then at me some more.
Eek – did she think it was fake? I know I look 12, but my ID is real, I swear! “Were you here yesterday, Kelly?” she asked. I said nope, this was the first time I had ever been to the WL pool bar in my entire life.
She stared at me for a few more moments. “You look really familiar. I am certain I have seen you somewhere recently.”
I shrugged and grabbed my mai tai, and headed for the beach. I supposed I could have told her she might have seen me on TV, but I always feel weird saying that because what if I’m dead wrong? I have horrid fantasies of leaning over and nudging the person with my elbow and saying “Well, have you ever heard of a lil’ show called WHAT NOT TO WEAR? Eh? Eh?” Maybe doing a bad impression of myself, like hopping around and announcing “Boy, I could maybe jump in these stilettos…for about two minutes!” And that they would say “What are you talking about?” and look at me like I possibly belong in a mental institution. And then I slink away into the shadow of my lame faux celebrity.

ANYWAY, at that moment I was slinking off to the beach to chase some ducks around.

DSC_0212.jpg

This beach was practically deserted. And amazing. So peaceful. Actually, my note in my trip notebook simply says “Blissed out.” I kicked my feet up and sucked down my drink and watched the waves and the ducks. Boy those ducks are brazen. They would saunter right up to my feet and yap away. I am pretty sure they were eyeing the pineapple in my drink, which I guarded carefully.
Ah, WL at dusk! Delightful!
DSC_0215.jpg

DSC_0217.jpg

I never saw this darn thing go off! Boo.
DSC_0218.jpg

I get back to the room and realize…it’s about 7p. And I still have 4 or 5 hours to kill. So I head back out towards the water.

Continued in next post!

DSC_0227.jpg

And hop on a boat…
DSC_0228.jpg

Because I am going to play by myself in MK for the first time in 6 years. Wooo!
DSC_0229.jpg

The boat ride was really fun – the sky was gorgeous as the sun set, it was dark by the time I got to MK. I also wrote down, “Funny southern group who wanted Casey’s hot dogs.” So I guess they were on the ferry too.
After disembarking, I briefly considered jumping on the monorail and going to GF for more Basin. But I didn’t. Instead I beelined for my Very Favorite Ride, the TTA! And by “beelined” I mean “wandered aimless through the Main St shops,” where I took pictures like this
DSC_0238.jpg

TTA was fun! It was dark out. That means wonky Tomorrowland pictures!
DSC_0240.jpg

I got a front car too, which for some reason always makes me ridiculously happy. Afterwards I sat down on a bench where I called my mom and we had a nice talk that didn’t involve hurricanes or ruined vacations. Then I thought…I am in Tomorrowland…surely this is where they are hiding all of the fabulous Wall-E merchandise that I am so eager to drop obscene amounts of cash on!
Merchant of Venus let me down, so I stormed out of Tomorrowland and onto the carousel.

Next I hit up Winnie the Pooh, and then checked out Peter Pan. It had a 30minute wait so I was going to skip it – then I reminded myself that it ALWAYS has a long wait, which is why I haven’t been on it in years, and I really had NOTHING else to be doing right now. So I stood in line with a bunch of obnoxious teenagers, but it was totally fun and worth it.
DSC_0260.jpg

Peter Pan is one of the rides I really remember from my first trip to WDW, 20 years ago. I was always concerned about the color ship we would get, and I dreaded the yellow ships. I thought they were absolutely hideous. I remember feeling so anxious about possibly getting a yellow ship. Luckily this time, I got a blue. But I got a picture of a yellow one for posterity.
DSC_0261.jpg

As I rode I remembered how high it felt when I first rode it in 1988, and how scared I was then by the skull rock. I got off the ride at 9:20, and Spectromagic was blocking my way, so I took some pictures of it. This is when I discovered that by zooming in or out while taking the picture, I could get a bunch of weird looking photos.

Secret boyfriend Chip is in there….somewhere….
DSC_0273.jpg

I threw a poncho on over my precious camera and boarded Splash Mountain next. There was a sweet family with 2 boys sharing my log, and I sat in the back so there was an empty row between us. This allowed me to sing along under my breath without irritating anyone. It was so great to ride this at night, and the parade was still going on so we had a cool view of it during the drop. The family stayed on the log for a second ride, but I had some Wishes to catch and I wanted to get up by the front of the park so I could get out quickly once the show ended. I speedwalked down Main St and got a lousy spot behind good ol’ Mayor Pumpkinhead.

DSC_0285.jpg

Yay, I can sort of see the castle! The park was busy – this was what was going on behind me
DSC_0286.jpg

The show started and I knew this would not do. I headed toward the exit and found a great spot for picture-taking.
DSC_0300.jpg

DSC_0307.jpg

Yaaay I am happy.
DSC_0310.jpg

I raced back onto the ferry the second the show ended, which was unnecessary as we then sat there for ten more minutes. I spent my time admiring the 8billion bugs that came over to hang out with me.
DSC_0322.jpg

Our trip back to WL was delayed when partway across the water we had to stop for the EWP floats to go by. They weren’t on yet but it was pretty cool to see them up close. I was also enjoying the music they were playing on the ferry, this ridiculous compilation called DISNEY MANIA! of poppy covers of Disney classics. On our ride we got to hear a reggae-ish cover of “Hakuna Matata”, with altered lyrics (“When I was a young warthog” became “When I was a cool young thing”….hmmm.)
I got back to my room around 11 and watched Will & Grace. Then I turned on Hannah Montana, which I usually can’t stand, but this was probably the greatest episode ever. Hannah gets in a fight with a sweet puppet named Pancake Buffalo. It was hilarious. Or maybe I was going crazy from exhaustion.

Coming up: Yay Beach Club!

What a lovely evening you had! We loved Peter Pan. It's a great ride. We rode it so many times.

Weren't those bugs on the ferry creepy? :scared1: But oh how I miss that boat! :cloud9:

:rotfl: Good idea, I have been taking my frustrations out by not cleaning for weeks! I don't know if the show was even on or not because I didn't get off work until 7:30 last night. Yaaaawn...

Wow you are fast!
They were gross! But they stayed on their white wall and didn't bother me, so I didn't mind too much. Ick, though.
